In Other News…
- Along with the release of the new website, we will be making hi-scores a members-only feature.
This is for a number of reasons, but the main one is to keep them fresh. We want the hiscores to feature players who will compete with each other, tooth and nail, for hiscore glory. There are many dormant accounts within the hiscores that have not played for a very long time, and this will give new arrivals in Gielinor a shot at hiscore fame alongside the grizzled veterans on equal terms for all.
We want the hiscores to reflect the full range of content that RuneScape has to offer, and hope that they will be a big draw to the full, members’ game for those interested in high-level RuneScape competition on a level playing field.
- We’re pushing back the Wilderness graphics update mentioned in Behind The Scenes, so it’ll no longer be out in November. We’re sorry about this, but it‘s necessary in order to schedule in some of our upcoming anti-bot measures.
Notice this:
…and hope that they will be a big draw to the full, members’ game…
They're really giving free users the shaft if you ask me…

Wow that's really dumb hiscores have been around since RSC and are just a normal feature of the game that should be accessable to everyone. People are not going to be happy this helps no one at all!

Yep, pretty pathetic of them. I could agree with the removal of inactive players (not logged in over 6 months and have less than 100m exp? Get taken off main list)

The most pathetic update
EVER! This sure tops the 2007-12-07 update.

Uh-oh.

Yeah I'd be for that as well. If I'm not mistaken, they have that same system in place for old usernames, yes?

While it is a big deal, I don't think anything will ever top the 2007 update. That update nearly self-destructed RS. I don't know why Jagex would do such a thing.
Anyway this highscores for members thing is really pathetic. We can't look up accounts anymore b4 we buy or sell…
Cant wait to see what Jagex has in store. Powerbot is set to return on Nov.22. This gives them yet another excuse to delay.
This should be fun…. Occupying RS?

Once I finished shaking my head I realized I am so not surprised. So much for breaking away from the money hungry ways.

Well the fact that 50% of there members were all bots is never a good thing. Imagine you running a game and 70% of your players were all bots? Within time all your legits will quit and of course so will those bots. Jagex did the right thing, and within time more and more people will return.

Not all that surprising, and I can't say I care all that much about it either. I mean, my main is on all of three of the highscore lists, I think?
I'll miss being able to easily pull my current exp onto a calculator, though.

Just read the update that is coming, and I found a genuine stupidity.
Runescape has always been played by members and non-members. Highscores Should Be available for any kind of player. Whether member or not.
On the part of those who do not pay to play, will generate much controversy and many players (ie those who train the f2p skills till 200m XP) and many of those who take pleasure in playing it but have no way to pay for the upgrade.
I really did not like the update that is coming.Means that if I stop being a member for some time, I can not see the hiscores of my account? Incredible …

Just another reason why people will quit RS soon.

To be honest I don't really care about hiscores. Maybe I would if I was like top 10 or something.

Jagex could have just made it so F2P players don't get ranked, but their stats are still visible. So this "cleaning out inactive accounts from hiscores" is just bs. Then again I don't really care, my main is a member and all the people I meet/know in the game are members so I can still keep checking on my friends.

True, but then again no one in the top 10, or top 1000 for that matter is F2P so they don't really miss out on anything either. I think F2P PKers take the biggest hit from this update, as they can't check their opponent's stats anymore.

Of course they mess up the game even more, I don't care about High scores but a lot of people do.

There even were scripts for this on other communities. Yep. A loss.
Seriously why not just remove inactive players from the hiscores until they log in again…
This especially sucks for the people who have maxed out on just F2P.

(tl;dr at bottom)
Man. I was really hoping someone would agree with me in saying I think this will be a good update. I'd love to see RS become more like WoW in some cases. Not exactly, of course, but there are plenty of aspects of RS which make some things such a pain to play legitimately.
I don't macro anymore, but I do still play legit. I'd love to see RS move away from the whole "Best Free MMORPG" title that they've been so proud of for so long. I think it's held them back, really. I'd pay twice what we pay now if the game was more fun. I'd also like for them to move away from Java and the browser, but that won't happen any time soon, I'm sure.
tl;dr, I'm hopeful of what they're doing. I think this is getting their foot in the door saying "hey guys, we're not gonna be a free game forever, and you should pay if you want to play." I'm all for this, to be honest.
