Color Dungeoneering Script

Dynamite

So now that ref bots are dead that means that the dungeoneering bots are dead. I think it would be possible to create a script for it if we focus on the simple levels.
I want to make this in a partnership or small team, is anyone up for it?

I don't think it would be difficult at all. It would just take A LOT of tedious work, and possibly a lot of maintaining. Would be an interesting project.

I've never dungeoneerd before, probably never will. But do you think that you are able to create that? It seems from images that the colors used in environment are similar to most items.

My exact opinion :-) A lot of work but achievable.

The biggest problem would be navigating the dungeon, which even then shouldn't be to hard :)

Actually thats the easy bit(use nested arrays to represent rooms and fill them info as we go along), i wrote a dung script in color but it was too slow, so i gave it up.

I had already planned to make a dungeoneering script for MSI, but I'm focusing my time on bug fixes and implementations.

YoHoJo

2011-11-06 04:05:46

I think it would be an ICREDIBLY hard but fun script to make. So many floors, complexities, keys, and puzzles to deal with. Would definately take a team and lots of organization and structure similar to MSI. have at it!
Also can someone move thread to a more proper section, it's misleading here and I'm on phone.

Navigating the dungeon would be quite simple, really. Each room is small, there are very little obstacles (and if there are, it's a puzzle room, and not all are too difficult (I don't dung much, so I'm sure at higher levels there are, but I mean, look at the randoms we can solve with color. ;))), so it requires very little work to navigate.

we just need a good group of people to get together to make this.

the furthest i got with my attempt was picking up starter items, moving through normal doors (no key), killing all monsters in room and moving to next door.

so it is possible just need a dedicated team working on it splitting tasks into sections

Main

2011-11-06 06:33:42

I'd be down but I don't even know how to play dungeoneering legit:(

Maybe we can get a group of people who is very familiar with dungeoneering and then assign task to us who doesn't have much clue but knows how to work with color.

Great idea and yeah, it will be hard. Anything is possible if you really want to do it. I will be down for helping out, I've already setup git and forked MSI.

I was thinking about you could join other people in rushing through them (as an option).

Markus

2011-11-06 11:15:59

Officially I'm not allowed to say this, but if you do this with a small group, I'd sell it (but not here, as that's forbidden yaknow). You might actually make a little bit out of it, as iDungeon etc really proved it is one of those few scripts that's worth it.

What do you have against it being paid?
All other dungeoneering bots have been paid and made a lot of money.

I also would prefer it to be a free script, we dont want to turn into those other communities that just want money from people.

i say keep it free, if your that worried about it keep it members only.

Well it could just be an image of the code (.pdf?), but it'd only take a day or so to type that out from hand, especially if someone had a friend to do it, too.

I'm not sure where I stand on this for pay/free, because the people who want the learning aspect are already quite smart and so they would probably not have much to learn. However, I'd love for it to be open source, but not necessarily free.

Again, why?

PatDuffy

2011-11-06 16:27:06

You could look at it two ways.

The first is if it was actually a paid script. This would attract many people to SRL, since it would be the only working Dung script currently. Unfortunately, this would also attract a lot of people that we don't want around here, such as leeches and possibly Jagex's attention. Yes, this would motivate some of the Dev's since there is money to be paid, but at what cost?

The second option I see is to make it a members+ script. This would also attract many people to SRL, but the leeches and other negative members would be unable to get to it, driving them away. There would also be an amount of people that would be motivated to LEARN how to script themselves, and would successfully apply and become Members.

That's just as I see it, as leaving it completely free to the public would, in the end, cause a lot of trouble and grief for everyone involved.

Wizzup?

2011-11-06 16:27:42

Just worry about making the script first.

Markus

2011-11-06 16:28:36

There will not be any payscripts here at SRL. Don't you worry about that.
And I didn't intend the free vs. paid debate. It was more like: if you have a small group of 4 ppl who script well together and manage to get something done yourself, then you might consider charging a bit for it instead of just releasing it for free. Obviously if the script is developed here on the boards as a collaboration of many people it would be hard to charge anything.

If you don't charge for a color dungeoneering script you sir need lobotomy (whether it's sold at SRL or not is irrelevant). It will take weeks of solid coding, and right now there's 2.0 craptons of people looking for a dungeoneering script…

Btw…seriously…this is probably those most active i have been on this community…the reasons why are as follows:

1.) No Leechers here who keep asking for something but never doing shit….
2.) No Paid stuff here, which makes this community and its values much stronger as it shows they care about learning more than anything.
3.) This Community doesn't have people who are 5 years old asking for pixels…

As for selling a dungeoneering script…Why would u want to attract people to this website that literally have no respect to the person they are talking too?

He also said that there won't be a Runescape market, years later, he made one, things change from time to time. Here's an example: before Rsbuddy/powerbot were working the activity here was a little bit low, now that the activity here is higher, which means more leechers, Also a script example: Weequ's Pest Controller, its an amazing script, but later you couldn't even get any points inside the mini-game because of the leechers abusing it.

Now that the activity is higher, Old members returning, etc etc… I don't have anything against Paid scripts, Cash motivates people to keep scripting this also means that the scripts get powerful. A thing i'd like to see in the future with simba is, able to keep their simba code closed source.

Though, i still think everything is fine here, but i don't mind seeing changes in the future.

Although everyone knows that I am very for paid scripts etc. I don't agree with the bolded part, I believe a way to not let them C+P would be the best option, nobody is going to spend time writing out a script word for word.. are they?
I believe in open source.

But if you make a team of 4, you are near completion of the script, Person 1 and 2 have put in 100s of hours work, Person 3 and 4 have put in a few hours of work. Person 3 and 4 are against selling the script and release it for free. Person 1 and 2 got, excuse my language, fucked.

Not true dynamite.
Have full disclosure and talk about intentions first.
Tons of people work as teams all the time everywhere all over the world….
This can easily be done as a team as long as each of the members have te same views.
Look at SRL, MSI, and like tons of real world companies, teams working together towards coming goal.

I am in no way shape or form saying that it couldn't be done by a team that was willing to make it free. I was saying your point about everyone in the tea having the same views.
If 1 person out of 10 wants to make the script free, it isn't going to work out because as soon as development is finished that 1 person will release it for free leaving the other 9 developers high and dry.

I'm also intersted into participation in more advanced project. This is what I've already made in one night:

Local coordinate system for dung room. Point 0,0 is in left-upper corner of room. Why local system? Because you don't have to search for object everytime you want to use it. You find object once and save it's position on MM in memory, and you can return to it even if it's outside MS view. You can make handy map of all objects in every room of dungeon.
To MM <–> MS convertion I'm gonna use ReadySteadyGo's 3dProjectile:
