new rs world map

I believe this is the correct forum?

Well… I sure hope the colors don't change again lol

anyway here is a map I did this morning (small version):

It has the new areas updated added to it and new colors

I find that the most updated map (other than this one) is like 4 years old so this one is nice to have

in the zip I have:
.bmp (24 bit)
.png
.jpg

it is zipped because the .bmp is 150ish MB and zipped it is 25MB (bmp has no compression at all I guess)

Also please let me know if there are any errors in the map, due to jagex having their runescape map change pixels every little bit the map is off by 1 pixel in some places, I doubt this will effect anything (I did edit anything major) but if there are any paths that are effected at all just let me know and I'll edit it real quick!

Download taken off, redoing if it is confirmed that the colors are actually changed.

Tried PNG? It's also lossless. :)

yea png is in the folder

I just used jpg for the small sample pic because it is small in file size and renders quick :P

Yeah, we'll need .png to put it in SPS. If you could make the image 7584 x 6668 that would be perfect. Those are the dimensions of the current SPS map, and if we can keep them the same, no paths will be affected.

Also I mentioned this a while ago, but we need to write a program to generate the map. Someone made a lot of progress on another thread (can't find it ATM), so maybe we can work off that as it would be a huge pain if someone had to spend a few hours making the map every time it's updated.

How exactly do you go about 'making' your own rs map like that?

grats

2011-10-27 14:17:20

@coh3n yep will do, I'll have to crop out some of that bottom black hopefully getting it smaller in the height and add a little bit of padding to the sides so I don't actually change the rs map aspect ratio's

oh well after looking at the SPS image I see it's 6904x5304 due to it cutting off a large chunk of the rs map including all of the wilderness and a little bit of the bottom
my map will be the full rs map, I'll create a secondary one for SPS and try to mimic the same exact cropping that happened there

Well with my 3 monitors I stretched RS across all the screens and screenshotted giant chunks of it and pieced them together lol

I bet there is maybe some way to make smart capture all of the data and write it to a png or something, I don't know that stuff though

needless to say, each section overlaps each other this way it comes out "clean" looking.. I zoomed in about 2000x just to see the individual pixels to make sure they lined up

Grats, what SPS map are you looking at? This is the current one.

Jakkle

Is the colour difference of the map a problem, also on Grats pic he has the names of things showing on the map. Only pointed them out as I wasn't sure how sps works and if they make a difference.

Coh3n

2011-10-27 14:50:37

Oh, yeah there can't be any labels. =\

The map has to match what you see in the game minimap. You can disable labels somehow in the world map options.

grats

2011-10-27 15:04:34

Yea I was llooking at what I believe to be the ORIGINAL SPS map lol!

and damn =[ I didn't know you could disable the labels now, will get back to work then!
unless someone actually knows how to rip the image and create from the client?

shouldn't be too hard, I'll do the dwarf mine for coh3n first

Jakkle

2011-10-27 15:05:01

:p thought so, even tho, like I said "I wasn't sure about it". As its colour, that's what made me ask about the colour difference to.

Oh and Coh3n Looks like all the work you've put in to everything, is finally paying off ;).
It's really nice to see everyone getting together and helping with M.S.I
We are lucky to have it and all thanks to you and NCDS for keeping it alive also to the many that have helped out.

It was said last night that the colors were changed with the update, I am unsure now, I don't see too much either

I'll gladly redo it (would maybe be an hour of time) but I'll get other things like the dwarven mine done for coh3n first

if anyone can confirm actual changes I'll do it

The colors in or near VEB have changed that's all I can confirm - which could mean Jagex updated the colors in other locations as well.

let me know any other spots

Well it's best to update the whole map. A lot more colors could have been affected.

Yea, I'm checking it out better now

a LOT of colors changed, almost everything is darker

also

if you look at varrock, go a little to the east and you'll see the digging pit thing, those colors are off, it looks like someone updated varrock already?

I'll for sure redo the entire map :P

I think it was Smidqe that updated parts of the map a while ago so that's why it may seem weird in that area.

When you do the dwarven mine, be sure to include EVERYTHING that you can see in the in game map, not just the dwarven part. I think the resource dungeons are included on the south part of the map?

grats

2011-10-27 17:50:42

Here's the dwarven mines one, let me know if those red ! need to be taken off, I'll go around the map and s/s the minimap and replace them, I don't think there is an option to remove them

I'm gonna do some school work real fast so it isn't on my mind then I can do the full rs map

c0de

2011-10-27 18:07:36

You could use map chunks that client sends to the GFX card, here's an example of edgeville chunk:
p.s. I know it's flipped

grats

2011-10-27 18:16:54

I have no idea how to even get those but can they be all pieced together by a program?

even if it were to load all of the games map into my graphics memory I have 2gb dedicated and 4 total just for graphics so it should be fine? and then they can all be added together?

The ! will need to be removed. Also, is your brightness set right? Mine's a lot lighter.

I'm assuming you were using higher graphics settings when you got that image? Interesting thought, though. How easy is it to access the images?

grats

2011-10-27 18:24:17

I wasn't in smart, not sure if that effected the brightness, but yea I'm always max brightness

edit:
weird, I've gone through every setting, safe mode, software, opengl, directx I can't get any even close to as bright.. they're all the same as mine

I just loaded mine in the browser and it's quite a bit darker. That could pose a big problem. =\

I'd say if it's lighter for you in SMART then make the map in SMART as that's what most people will use. Kind of weird though.

E: Everything is DEFINITELY lighter in SMART for me.

E2: Actually it seems to be a little different every time I load RS. I'm curious as to what c0de posted. If we could access the images from the graphics card we wouldn't really need images in the sps repository, just get them from the graphics card. Theoretically, every part of RS would be supported, we would just need the world/dungeon maps.

We'll need a program to do that, that's like 500 screenshots lol

if c0de somehow knows how to put the entire rs map into a graphics card memory and create an image with it that would be super cool

oh yea good point.. like loading DTM's but instead loading sections of the RS map needed for that script for the walking

Coh3n

2011-10-27 21:03:48

So I found the script that generates the map. It was written by Geo, and it doesn't actually generate the map, but pieces of the map that need to be put together like a puzzle. If this was possible, it's definitely possible to write a script to combine the pieces. I've attached the script. You can run it if you wish to see the output. I couldn't get it working with SMART so you'll have to do it with your browser for now.

I'm sure it could be improved to generate just the one map.

Sounds fun I'll check it out

would be real easy to piece together if it took the exact same size and correctly spaced all the pieces because my photoshop autolocks together images on the canvas

There's an 89 pixel overlap on the cropped images so when you'd piece together the images, you'd just have to move them all over and down/up 89 pixels I think.

ah ok, can be automated so still pretty easy :P

if it's exactly that everytime.. I'll definitely check it out later tonight

Okay. I'm also going to work on getting it to make the actual map rather than just pieces.

Gu3st...

He got pictures of that map by using GLIntercept.

All chunks are loaded in OpenGL as images to be shown on the minimap, and when you use GLIntercept, all images are saved in a folder.

Oh then I'm assuming that only works when you're on the OpenGL settings so in this case it wouldn't work.

Yes, we need. Png put in SPS. If you could make the image 7584 x 6668, which would be perfect. They are the size of the current map of the SPS, and if we can keep the same, does not affect the paths.
