21-Oct-2011 - Bot-Busting and Bonuses For All

Mr. Bottomtooth

2011-10-21 13:38:28

What do you guys think of this?

http://services.runescape.com/m=news/c=wZjFwcHk80w/bot-busting-and-bonuses-for-all

Some quotes from the post:

"Today, I am really happy to say we are in the long-awaited position of being able to announce that we’ll be launching our most formidable bot-busting weapon in our history, targeting what we believe to be 98% of the bots seen in game."

"The project, code-named the ‘ClusterFlutterer’, will be launched as part of the RuneScape game update on Tuesday the 25th October permanently preventing “reflection” bots from working again."

Discuss. :S

we use reflection too….what r u so happy about
——
ha! called it in a post like 2 days ago. in anycase, im gona finish botting my agility, and then im gona stop until things die down. not even gona wait till the 25th. just to be safe…to any1 who hates a skill, i recomend u bot the fk out of it while u still can.

wb colors. we missed u!

the only thing they can legally do against reflection is take away the labeling so we wont be able to use it am i right? (i dont think i am)…

they said stop ref bots from working, doesnt mean detect em? in anycase we dont inject like java does? sooo do u think ref will be ok for us?

btw….were about to get a fk ton more members for srl.

if wt-fakawi or wizz or neilsie can gather some statistics in the next month or so id love to see em haha.

At the same time, we will be removing the ‘unsigned’ method of loading the game. Unsigned mode gives poor performance for players and is a confusing fall back for when the game crashes or suffers compatibility problems. Additionally, it holds back our ability to provide better graphics, sound and game play for the vast majority of players using the normal game client (more than 99.5% of our player base).

Hah.

Not that most people used unsigned here anyways, http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59019 is a good read.

ALL botted items are going crazy… Just made 200m in 5 minutes with furies. Bought instant for 6.2m sold back 5 minutes later 8.6m each. Lol. I suggest people don't do this though since it's really risky atm. Prices going up and down by 5-10% in minutes.

They are too cheap with a small limit :S D bones are +3.2k each already and I don't see them going over 4k. 10k of them per 4 hours is only 10-20m profit max before they reach ~4k, and there are items that can give a lot more than that if you just have buying power.

EDIT. D bones are over 3.6k already…. haha crazy

Here is the deal … I'm 3m exp away from getting maxed. Yes, 1m for attack, str and defense.

I'm 94 slayer only. But have tons of effigies. But still, need like 10 to go frlom 96-99 slayer. So, with that bonus, I pretend to get the maximum of exp slayer on that day, so I keep a far distance from getting maxed.

Something like that..

I say we all work together on a soulwars bot in color so on friday when the zeal you get is tripled we can really capitalize on it.

"Friday:

Soul Wars day: Players will receive triple the usual amount of zeal points."

Instead of ~8 an hour zeal, we would get 24. That's a lot of XP.

You'd have to buy like 80+ furies for that and you can only buy 10 every 4 hours.

It's interesting to see how well they can prevent reflection methods and can they prevent injection at all..

How about open-gl hooking?

Same here. It's just a over-hyped bot with a nice mouse moving procedure. Nothing big really

Floor66

2011-10-21 15:52:04

I've used its' MTA and PC bots for hundreds of hours, making me good amounts of GP, with only seldom the slightest of hiccups. I do agree, you have to follow a certain set of rules in order to use it properly, but once you've got it working, it's a great bot.

This "over-hyped bot with a nice mouse moving procedure" is the exact description of what people would look for in a bot. You could describe an iPhone as an "over-hyped phone with a nice interface", millions of people use it nevertheless. Also, I've suggested that we, as SRL, create a mouse procedure alike but never once did anyone really pick that up. Our loss.

I have not tried their mining bot so I don't have an opinion about it. Saying "RiD is really unfair. If it was, nobody would be using it.

This may just mark a new era for java bots, I can't wait to see what some of the developers came up with and how client hackers decide to counter it. And if they do "permanently" break java bots, then people will be forced to bot with color, which isn't that bad either. I'm actually excited for this update :)

hmm i doubt they would say such a thing without being 100% sure. seeing as if they do fail they will get some heavy heat from players. theyre player base is already falling (real playes :p) so i dont think theyde risk such a thing. of course on the other hand…if a bunch of flagged accounts all of a sudden stop doing their usual routines, well that might flag them even more and jagex would have won with reverse psychology?:stirthepot:

FUCK YES!

Look no offense to all you reflection dev's out there, I appreciate your work and everything, but Runescape has become literally unplayable. You can't play legit anymore. You can't be happy with any accomplishment you do legitly because there are bots that can do what you just did. Rsbot, Rsbuddy, iBot/Nexus, and all those gold farmers really put a dent into playing RS.

I welcome this update Jagex, even If my accounts are part of this ban I do welcome it. If Jagex isn't bull shitting, then it's back to color :).

Samesies. I for one liked color more than Reflection. Reflection pretty much took the challenge out of scripting, I thought searching for colors and finding the right tolerance was not only tedious, but strangely quite entertaining. Reflection took all that away with simple object IDs. I've been planning on getting back into scripting, and with this update I just might. ;)

Stopping injection bots is prob easier to do anyways, all they have to do is check for classes implementing extra interfaces (hooks) and containing extra methods (accessor methods).

Coh3n

2011-10-21 17:23:02

Whatever way they do it, I won't be surprised if someone finds a way around it. We've already proven that OpenGL hooking is possible, so I imaging that will be the next generation of botting, unless they plan to stop that at the same time.

If you understand that the bots work by injecting code into the client, the next logical step would be to realize that they could modify any code in the client, including code that might look for specific interfaces or class members. Intercepting any suspicious call or making sure the client can't tell the difference between the regular client and a modified client is trivial from there.

That's true I suppose, that sort of check would have to be client-sided after all. So then code could be injected to send fake reports back to the server.

Thing is… We are the only community that made advancements in OpenGL hooking. Either way, Java bots will be down for a while after these upcoming updates, lots of people will be banned so expect a raise in prices. Yes, and I've seen some really neat results modifying only just the wind and gravity of WindMouse, it's what I made an old anti-ban from.

As far as my opinions go…

Bummed that I won't be releasing my 200k FM XP/hour root-burner or my X-Fighter 1.1, or even my beta use of models for Agility-runners, but I absolutely think this is worth it! I'd rather give up my small advantage and take away "98%" of everyone else's as well. Besides, this is only a temporary stop to scripts being released here, in no time we'll see a huge interest in color from a mass of people, think about that!

Yes, but the sad thing is you're already late. Prices skyrocketed within minutes of the announcement of this upcoming update. Anyways stuff that I put my money in (I've already dumped most): furies, onyx amulets, dragonfire shields, herbs, yew logs, sharks, dragon bones, whips.

Phats(red, yellow, purple especially), disks, santas, hweens, eggs, pretty much rares all across the board are crashing atm, so that's certainly something to look into once the market stabilizes.

It's the people who sold their rares to panic buy into botted goods to make a quick buck who started the crash. And it was continued by normal panic and price manipulators at w2. But Santa is looking better already.

Less bots = Lower supply of goods
Low supply + High demand = Higher price of goods
Higher price of goods = Less buying power of the GP
Less buying power of the GP = The less GP is worth

However

Less bots = lower supply of GP and goods
lower supply of GP and goods = Higher USD value
Higher USD value = profit

The prices of goods will explode
The value of GP will drop (prices will skyrocket)
The USD value of RS will skyrocket

LRC is living rock caverns. The monsters are agressive 120-160s that kill you quite quickly. The ores you mine are infinite until random times, like rune essence, so you don't need to worry about other bots.

I, for one, am interested in seeing exactly what they plan to do to "permanently prevent reflection bots from working." The only feasible way I see of doing this would be to custom obfuscate each client such that static hooks could not be used, but even then all that would need to be done would be distribute the updater and grab the hooks on the fly. What's more likely is that they're hyping some idea they have that isn't going to be very effective.

Yeah it's weird, it's like we're experiencing both inflation AND deflation at the same time. I think the possible amount of resources (both GP and goods) being literally infinite separates the value of goods from the value of gp. Allowing the cost of a certain good to rise even while the value of a single GP is on the rise as well.

It's only a theory since the situation is pretty unique and it's hard to find a similar situation anywhere in the real world.

EDIT. Look at RS front page… Jagex seems to be very confident they have the botting problem solved.

They do have something planned for us so that indeed runescape will be clear of all bots for at least a while..

Due to the complex nature of today’s game update, there may be a few minutes of down time while we update and test our systems. Thank you for your patience while we do this, and rest assured that we’ll get things running again as soon as we can.
As described in last week’s news post, it is now necessary to be running Java version 1.6 update 10, or above, in order to play RuneScape.
We’ve made some improvements to our graphical engine which will aid us in the future development of RuneScape’s look and feel. Players using Direct X mode will notice palette consistency for the first time with Open GL. Other visual improvements under development include our new water shader. We’ll be continually improving the look of the game over the months to come. We’re confident that this won’t impact upon gameplay, but if you do notice any graphical glitches please submit a bug report. Switching to OpenGL or Software mode in your graphics options will nullify any problems that do arise.
It is now possible to view the amount of resources a Clan member has collected by using a new button on the Clan Chat side interface, next to the Kick button, which give Admin levels and higher information on clan citadel resources gathered by any online clan member that week. This information is only given if the clan member is online, has membership, is not on probation and has visited since the last build tick.

I don't know if these graphical improvements will immediately affect us but probably so. They don't seem to be anything other than the usual update tho..

Still waiting…

Fakawi, didn't you make this suggestion before? If so then you'll be happy to know this:

You can now right-click on a player’s name, or a line of their chat, to report them. This will make it easier to do and will help eliminate errors in reporting botters with hard to spell names. This can be enabled through the in-game options screen.

• Process Detection - CF will execute a command once a string of code is recognized through the game client. It will search the computers process tree which will catch all major macro programs including auto-type scripts.

• Name Detection - Similar to the above ability, it will find the names of major macro programs, which then are sent to our systems which will allow us to catch players that are abusing macro scripts.

• History Detection - Following the two aforementioned detection methods, this has the ability sniff out macro site browser history. This detection method isn’t a sole factor when we review an account and deem whether or not they have been using a macro, however, if we find that we cannot come to a conclusion, this feature can be of major help.

• GameShield JB - After speaking with GameShield, they have allowed us to use the GameShield base to redevelop to specifically suite RS. It has several detection methods that I cannot discuss, but these are fail-safe and will work indefinitely. I am allowed to discuss one method however, which GameShield JB (short for fagex Build) executes a game update which changes the ID of every item and object every X amount of hours. Players are not affected by this as it updates automatically.

• Mirror Shield - This is a special program that we discovered about a year ago. It allows us to shield the game with a type of ‘mirror’ which prevents item and object recognition. This will make macro scripts literally run in circles.

• Game Time Monitor - This cannot be discussed for security reasons. To summarize this however, it detects specific time patters over time. Whether or not they try and avoid it, many macro users follow some sort of pattern or schedule. This cannot mistake a legitimate player as it does not work in lieu of the other program abilities.

• Cursor Bounce - If the program suspects a player of using a macro script, it will "bounce" the mouse a few coordinates of the desired object or item.

That has to do with MSI, please post that in the MSI help section.
I think to fix your problem you need to download SPS.

So I guess in final words, we can still bot… Just gotta wait for rs to be a little bit stable and perhaps get a final confirmation on their detection system?

If they did stop reflection fully, every one is just gonna go back to color like the good 'ol days (remember we had green drag killer, mta, and several version of pest control and fight cave???). Its all just a big hype and the end result is that every one will learn how to make better scripts.

every object in game is an index in the array rite

meaning you can't tell what type is in what index
and my guess is that
everytime you connect
all indices are scrambled
resulting in something even harder than making a packet bot

thats what wow did
it pretty much destroyed private servers

pretty sure they do reflection checks now too

Jagex is only… 8 months late. Everyone has already maxed their mains, their pures, their tanks, and have already made enough money on their goldfarming accounts. Also, this still doesn't fix the RWT problem, but this doesn't 'directly' affect gameplay in the sense that players can't see it right in front of their eyes.

Flight

2011-10-26 00:11:29

Heh… after reading some of the posts by Mods talking about having time now to target that 2% finally. I wonder how that conversation went between the Moderators…

Mod A:
"Wonderful news, the bot sites are in a frenzy and the legit players are rejoicing."

Mod B:
"Absolutely, it seems we struck the finishing blow this time. It's a great day indeed."

Mod A:
"So... with all of this freed up time, do we have some big updates in mind, maybe the next big installment of a new skill or activity?"

Mod B:
"Not quite yet, as we have to use the majority of this time for overcoming the most difficult (and probably impossible) challenge in Runescape since day one."

Mod A:
"Wow sounds serious, what is it exactly? Some game engine reworks? In-game bugs that are being exploited?"

Mod B:
".....SRL"

THE END! I put it in code tags for the irony.

Edit:
I wanna throw something else out there… I don't think I've even said it yet, but if you're lurking around, I do tip my hat to you Jagex, you did a wonderful job! More power to you, definitely. I can assure you though, as tradition within the SRL community, we'll surely step up to the challenge. "Screen raking" isn't so easy to make accurate scripts for, especially for a game like Runescape, but that's what motivates us here the most, the challenge!

Could be the start of old players coming back. The fact that when 120k/200k of your players are bots isn't a good thing for a company - or at least a successful one.

I think that's a glitch with the client if your Java isn't updated or something. My friend's items were shrunk, he said they were EXTREMELY small and he could barely tell what they were. I'm sure Jagex wouldn't make your items so small that you would have troubles figuring out what it is.

I've read somewhere on the runescape forums that colours will change every x hours. Therefore we will need to increase our tolerance in our functions. This might be such a big increase that our color bots will start recognizing objects as other objects (because the colors are too much alike).

You cannot autocolor something if the color changes too much or if objects become similar looking because the color might become the same.
If 2 objects change too much of color they might start looking the same and therefore autocolor might recognize object 2 as object 1.

Sure, but if the script finds the color correctly the first time, then everytime it looks for it, it will only be one step behind the color when the color changes.

Jakkle

2011-10-29 12:37:44

Surely they can't change the actual colour of things every hour ? otherwise it would be like playing runescape on LSD lol. More that likely they would change the drakness/lightness of the colour. If that happend you could surly put If FindColor from blue very light to blue very dark plus it would have to match the shape of what your looking for to (something in that sense). There is always a way round everything, it's just working it out :p.

Colors have been changing colours for years. Thats why we use a colour tolerance. It lets us search for the colour and returns colours that are similar to the one we're searching for.

One in particular, "L Luv You", has not been banned, but you'll notice his adventure log stops completely at the 24th (nuke day).
