Never thought fagex was this dumb.....

This is from the update on 11 Oct(yes its not that new) about the so called battle against the bots. Until now i always thought that jagex knew how to stop the bots but didn't want to because of watever reasons, but after reading this i just found out that they are a bunch of D.U.M.B.A.S.S.E.S. Here is the quote:

We cannot win this battle alone. We need your help.

So how can you help? First, we would like to hear from you in a more coordinated way regarding your thoughts about how to fight the bots problem. We will be developing surveys to help us understand more about bots directly from you… we would love to hear your response.

Like seriously? They don't know how to solve the bot problem?

I'd fill out the survey and tell them exactly how I thought to stop the bots. Mainly because the better they get the better we get. :)

No wait, not starting, winning even more then they have previously

Tip.it threw out a nice idea a while back about parsing Runescape and giving cloned worlds that allowed macroing. I don't remember what their thoughts were on the linkage between the bot-worlds and the legitimate worlds, the Grand Exchange, and the highscores, but they had some nice ideas and brought up some good points. As a popular and alternate belief to bots being produced for the purpose of revenue, there's still a high number of users who use them simply for personal gain (stats, in-game money). such worlds created for bots alone would give them the opportunity to continue to use bots for personal gain, but nothing that would directly effect others. (Apart from the fact it gives them an unfair advantage)

Edit:
Also, I'd like to throw something else in here. Just because Jagex is asking for help does not mean they're any less intelligent. They're very good at what they do, and although alot of what they do isn't used for the right reason, that shouldn't be used to degrade how smart they are. I don't blame them for asking players for help. Compare however many thousands of individual people play Runescape on a daily basis to handful of developers. Yes, they know the game better, but the players have spent far more time in-game and could surely give opinions/suggestions on how to fight bots. After all, it's the players who have to put up with bots, not Jagex.

I once suggested to lower the one minute threshhold that prohibits from reporting more than one each minute, and have a Report popup menu when you click a player. Two small adjustments that solve a lot of accute problems.

I made a thread on their forum suggesting the abovementioned, using an account I have macroed on a lot (privately)….. do you know what they did?

They halved all the stats of that account (99's to 95's….. ouch) and ripped it of all its money…!

And the thread?…… disappeared.

Basically it's just another hollow statement meant to deceive their members into believing they are doing something.

Gonna have to agree with you

Jagex has all the power to stop botting. If they truly wanted to they could do it right now.

Some solutions are more drastic than others.

I'm still going with it's all a conspiracy… Noticed how wild things got when Jagex changed CEOs? Bot suddenly ruled RS, Jagex stopped banning them, etc… I think Jagex loves bots, think about how many people have multiple MEMBER accounts just for botting… They probably know how and can eliminate bots, but they want to drag this out for as long as possible… Makes sense to me: Collect as much profit before fix, build hype in actually fixing it (Marketing), eventually release update for fix –> Possible raise in members fee? Considering the mass amount of customers(bots) they'll lose… They're a business, what do you expect?
Just my 2 cents though…

Wanted is right.
They know exactly what the F they are doing, they are not stupid.
It's just a pubilicty thing to make all playres feel better and think that something is actually being one, and it gives players a chance to 'believe' that they are helping out fix the game.

Jagex (as well as any person with 1/2 a brain) knows that banning individual accounts does nothing, the person will make more hurrr!
What they need to (and have been) doing is taking the bot devs/websites to court and owning their asses.

We have seen this slowly but surely happening to botting/client hacking communities, example:
http://www.fagex.com/

So they know what they are doing, and are behind the scenes taking all these websites to court and shutting them down. This announcement is just to get the public excited… :D

Removing most bots would be as easy as have designated people, or volunteers manually go through and monitor runescape and ban obvious botters right on the spot.

Another easy way would be to have them check what accounts have the highest frequency or number of reports and monitor those accounts closely and individually ban them at a fast rate.

Legal action is laughable at best.

There's too many easy ways for them to easily remove a significant portion of all bots from them game or severely change how bots go about their business.

My theory is that it has become apart of the game and jagex realizes that runescape was never meant to be a game like halo or call of duty where actual skill is involved like aiming or timing, but a game of strategy and business which makes it fun to play.

I have no doubt they are running the game exactly how they want it to be done and have the power to make drastic changes.

The question is simply how they see fit based on the quality and profit of the game and its entirety but still are at least pretending to accept input.

I consider it highly disrespectful to call Jagex "Fagex". They've provided most of us with years of entertainment, be it through playing the game, botting the game, or leading us to meet new friends (read: find this site) and stay in touch with them even after quitting the game. Yes, they've made some not-so-good updates (prying money from customers), yes, they don't have the best thumb on bots right now and it's probably intentional, but no, they do not deserve so much disrespect.

In regards to the post, it's a people pleasing thing as has been said. I think the only way jagex will stop botting for real is if large amounts of real players stop paying for membership for this specific reason.

Guys I think jagex just pulled a massive ban… 300 is the average amount of ppl in non member worlds.. fishspots/mining is not as full as usual.. World one has only 1700 ppl.. And not to mention.. there are no advertising bots in my sight..

Edit:

You know whats funny.. I'm actually playing legit right now and this scrub says I'm botting… and that he hates botters.. 5 minutes later after watching a youtube video: I love college music vid.. I switch to rs screen and I see this same scrub saying this + logs in his 20+ bots in and storm the resources.. *sigh*:

as ideal as that might seem for other games, i highly doubt that jagex's objective. jagex is a large corporation with a bright (slowly dimming) future, and as such, would probably listen to their marketing department telling them to think a head. having bots now may raise revenue for a short while, but in the longrun, discourages legitimate players from playing, and discredits the company name. it doesnt make sense for them to ruin their economy in-game or out.

paragraph 1: 2 costly, slow

p2:seems easy statistically, but highly inaccurate as they must assume some of them are rage reports, and some are bot reports on other bots/fair players to help make this system useless. not to mention a lot of the time people DONT report bots simply because there are too many…say 10 in 1 spot, it takes atleast 10 minutes for their fkn report button. and dont even get me started on f2p at like say teh ge.

p3:legal action IS laughable at best. assuming the servers reside in switzerland or another country unaffected by certain laws they cant do much…not that it matters, they cant touch SRL;)

definetly not. and thats not a massive ban anyway. they prbly just changes worlds, or sleep. or their pc is off cuz of some weather…
======================================================

my input:

wow this has been fun to read. good thoughts pppl.
the way i see it theres really only 1 way to fix this:

1.start by taking back free trade yet again.
outcome: 90% if not more bots will be rendered useless as mass botting is only good for selling rsgp. yes the accounts might get sold too, but in the end, the worste will have past.
jagex will also subsequently get 60-79% of people who quit because of free trade to come back!

2. continue with legal actions…:duh:
outcome: good feeling inside (points for trying)

3. continue with hidden bot detection as usual: and btw jagex has admitted to this i read on one of their posts. and i actually believed it. i dont rember what it was but the most recent example would be the "dragging item glitch" which as you may see where im going with this…it isnt a glitch, just a way to get bots stuck….and a lot of bots do …sitting there trying to click for a good few hrs…(mine did for like 2hrs rofl. gawd i hope im not banhammered)
outcome: after useing a lawnmower, u always trim the edges…

soooooo any thoughts?

ps:sorry for massive post…i dont post much, but when i do i like to make it count…

I agree with the statements saying that Jagex is more intelligent and able than people think/Jagex lets people know. But I can't believe the only reason in not banning bots is that they get money from bots. Saying this might make me a gullible fool, but I just don't see Jagex as a corrupted company that lies to their clients just to make some profit. (Saying they try to get rid of bots when they don't.)

There are other reasons why Jagex could want to keep the bots in the game. The bots have gotten so out of control that Jagex may have noticed the point of return is long gone due to the massive effect bots have in the RS economy. It's impossible to know what will happen to the prices of basically every item in the game if bots disappear. Just as a simple (!ROUGH!) example: if you have an item that has a daily trade volume of, let's say 75 million and you cut the supply of that item by 80% (ban dem botzz). The demand stays the same (75 million) but supply is suddenly only 20% of what it used to be = 15m. The price of this item is going to skyrocket like it's 4th of July thus making people either unable to purchase the item or spend more money on the item(leaving them with less money which will then affect other items etc etc etc. Everything is linked.)

^ As I said that's just a rough example, traders (=merchants) who recycle the same item by buying it and selling it right back add a few "fake millions" on the demand (as they just sell it right back) and so on, but the core idea is still the same.

It might be annoying to train firemaking legitly while there's a bot next to you, but on the other hand do you really want to spend 400-xxxx gp on a single willow/maple/any log? (xxxx because it's impossible to know how high prices would go.) People think they want to get rid of bots but I think if they were to be removed there would be just the same amount or more whiners about "omfg everything so expensive."

Forums are a total joke these days, and have been for quite some time. Jagex is demodding Fmods if they don't lock threads/rants about bots or basically anything related to autoing. Many fine Fmods have been demodded simply because they let people speak their mind (as long as they don't offend others). Pretty much all bot threads get locked and hidden within 5 minutes of their creation. "Yeeey freedom of speech."

"Other reasons" is just a saying, I personally only stated one reason although there are possibly more out there.

And "fair" is just something we THINK we want until the reality hits us in the face when you realize you have to cut a billion willow logs to get 99 fm since you don't have +100m rsgp to burn on a useless skill. (Most people don't.)

And when an item skyrockets/crashes naturally (not because price manipulation but demand vs supply), it can take a long time (even years, depending on the item) before the price stabilizes to the "real and fair"price. This is because items get oversold/bought out which pushes the price unrealistically low/high.

1. when willow logs were "fair" they were 20-30 gp ea. its not 100m…:p
2. that would be true for items but with a reset to controlled market it was under the assumption that jagex resets the prices (al though they have been hestitant in the past i think we reached a mass scale decision)
[set to what they deem "standard" prices…similar with new items..]

….yeah i ALMOST wish they would just restart rs all over….with a controlled market that is…until they found a better bot solution…

Even if they set a standard price for an item, it doesn't matter. The price will start changing immediately after it's been reset. Just like you see with new items, Jagex sets a "standard price" for an item and it starts to skyrocket immediately because demand is a lot higher than supply (with new items 0 in the beginning). The only way Jagex can stop the fluctuation of prices (in this case from rising a lot) is by setting firm prices that don't care about supply & demand. Basically an old school General Store. And I highly doubt Jagex is going to remove free trade after bringing it back once already.

yes thats true for new items but u can NEVER use new items in this equation simply because we dont know the future or the quality of teh item.

basically i think whats going on is ur saying that doing it my way will change nothing as people will simply have something new to complain about…
and im sayin yeah thats somewhat true but it would be the old complaining and at least that 1 made sence. not to mention with time the economy WILL stabalize.

That's like using a nuclear bomb to kill one man.

Giving player mod volunteers the power to manually ban obvious botters on the spot by creating some incentive would not be that hard to do and it would be decently fast.

I second that!

Almost everything in this thread is complete speculation.
The truth is none of us know exactly what Jagex can/will do and until they do something we should all focus on the game as it is now.

I'm not saying we shouldn't prepare for the future but the best way we can do that is by improving ourselves now. The harder we work on the quality of our bots now, the longer it will take Jagex to beat us then.

Instead of worrying about whether or not we'll lose free trade or get mass banned we should worry about where we ourselves are going wrong.

Nothing is ever perfect, a great man once told me "if you think a song is finished, then only your part of the song is finished. Pass it on to somebody else and let them finish the song to pass it on again."
I'll never truly know what he meant but my interpretation was;
Just because you think your work is done doesn't mean somebody else can't improve upon it.

I think we should all consider that thought and start working closer together to build on this already amazing community.
We should all collaborate more, whether we are the ones writing the scripts or the ones enjoying their work. We should help the newcomers on a personal level by trying to help them learn rather than just showing how it's done.
If a script gets abandoned for whatever reason, we shouldn't just let it die. Open it up to everyone for them to see if they can keep it going.
I realise this already happens to some extent but there are still far too many broken scripts for us to be a serious threat to the Java bots, like so many of us want to be.

I understand this post may be overlooked by many, I'm not the most active member of this community (possibly one of the least active) but that doesn't mean I love it any less than any of you.
I can't write a script to save my life, I've tried to learn but to me it might as well be Japanese. This doesn't mean I don't want to learn or help in any other way and I know the same goes for other people on here.

So pull us all together, make this community a family and it will be OUR bots that keep beating Jagex not Jagex beating the bots (see, I was getting back on topic :p)

It would have a heavy impact on bots. I'd estimate 60-75% of the bots you see are solely for gold-farming in some way or another, whether it's for the gold to be sold for $$ or the accounts for gold/$$. There's not a whole lot of people using bots for just personal gain, like skill-training and what not.

*sigh*:

There are no advertising bots anymore because they now automute spammers.

We have recently improved our internal systems to be able to spot spam from the chat window and instantly mute the offender preventing the constant flow of communication from the gold farmers which are impacting the game experience. Your reports are very helpful to us here!

Honestly, nothing will change. Jagex just focuses on lawsuits these days rather than trying to counter botting through the actual game code.

what about a time travel machine so we can all go back 10 years and start enjoying the game again :)

Why do you insult the game designers that spend so much money and effort in making this game good. Jagex made the game we all love, think it's stupid to sit back and call them Fagex. Really

This is a really great update. You can now actually walk in W1 GE without public - off. Unless of course the advertising bots come up with a way to dodge the automute. Now if only we could get those dicers muted as well…..:garfield:

I once suggested to lower the one minute threshhold that prohibits from reporting more than one each minute, and have a Report popup menu when you click a player. Two small adjustments that solve a lot of accute problems.
About that…

"You can now right-click on a player’s name, their character in-game, or a line of their chat, to report them. This will make it easier to do and will help eliminate errors in reporting botters with hard to spell names. This can be enabled through the in-game options screen." - http://services.runescape.com/m=news/bot-nuking-day-making-runescape-fairer-and-more-fun
