RIP Steve Jobs

A brilliant mind left our world
A mentor he was
It was him who gave another meaning to the technology
He was Steve Jobs, founder of Apple.

OK, I thought you were trying to troll me…but Google confirms this. I have known for a while that he had Pancreatic Cancer, and once you are diagnosed with that, you are counting the days. It is a sad day, maybe even the reason for no iPhone 5 - as to not coincide his death with the release- but he will always be remembered for his 'innovative' technologies he brought to the world.

Not necessarily.

I'm very sorry to hear about this. Although I'm not a fan of Apple in general, he was a brilliant man and created quite the line of gadgets. I'm glad he found success in his life before the end.

He left Apple for some time and later came back. So he did leave. Regardless, even if he was a good CEO and all that, he's still very much limiting our freedoms as a side effect of his ``inventions''.

I'm thinking about designing a car.

I think I'll make it only accept my brand of gasoline, but make it even easier to drive by removing the transmission entirely, allowing it only to go forward. It'll be all white, with my logo plastered all over the hood. It'll break down less often than other cars, but that's because its drivers will only be able to drive it on the highway, at a top speed of 45 mph. When it does break down, you'll only be able to get it repaired at my garages. You won't be able to add any performance parts, because everything inside will be proprietary. That's okay, though; a new model will come out every couple of months, so you can just throw the older model away, instead of upgrading and maintaining your current one. I'll charge double for this car over what my competitors do, and make billions. I'll horde wealth throughout my life, rarely giving to charity.

And when I die, I'll be called the Steve Jobs of our time.

Society is designed in a way that forces a lot of people into poverty. Obviously society would never go anywhere if everyone was treated like they are in communism. All government and society is bad, capitalism is just the least bad. The reason we have super rich is so people have incentive.

For someone to become super rich then not give a shit about donating doesn't make them a bad person, it just makes them a heartless asshole.

Most charity organizations use most money for good purposes. Some charity organizations use some money for other purposes.

Are you saying he didn't work hard getting all the money? I see no reason for him to just give it away. It's his money, that's how capitalism works. If you think he should just give it away - why would he? There's plenty of people just keeping stuff they own to themselves - but I must agree you're blessed if you can see beyond that and donate it to humanity for the greater good. (Open Source much? Closed Source is for heartless assholes?) I guess mr. Jobs just didn't see it that way.

Yes, but he also built his reputation upon theft and treachery. And no, I don't hate Bill Gates because I hate Windows; I dislike Bill Gates because he has made Microsoft what it is - a company that threatens our freedom and tries to keep it's monopoly on technology at all cost - even at the cost of advancements for humanity. Sure he worked hard for his money, but certainly not as much as the guy building the roads he drove on for his whole life, or the guy that built his houses, or even the many people that worked in his factories making his company work.

You see no reason for him to give some of his money to less fortunate? Sure it's 'his' money, but does someone who actually has regard at all for other people just keep more money than he will ever need i.e. billions of dollars more than hundreds of thousands of people in poverty will collectively make in their entire lifetimes? There's no excuse for that level of greed, not even belittling charities. Bill Gates founded his own charity.

Yes there's plenty of greedy people like him, doesn't justify it one bit.

And you'll have to elaborate on the open/closed source thing because I didn't understand one bit of what you meant with that.

All businesses do this to pay their workers more and employ more people so the overall company turns out a sufficient profit. What's important is what he actually did with that money in the end.

A inspirational brilliant man left the world, always sad when someone pass away.

i never liked mac myself for a few reasons.
A mac-book often cost twice as much as the same performance of a normal laptop.
changing parts and fixing the pc is made harder and more tedious, for people to buy new products.
Then there is a another reason what literally is about habbit, when used to windows learning to use mac from scratch is not motivating.
Also i do not defend their planned obsolescence on the Iphone (they no longer do this as far as I'm aware).
Neither their dumping of trash in Ghana and Nigeria.

Really, is that not exactly how Apple is operating? As far as Microsoft fading (lol) they still have majority of the desktops, they have strong mobile software trying to claw it's way up and various other stuff that I can't recall at the moment.

Sure, none of their recent stuff have been home runs… and they aren't exactly gaining any market share in the desktop usage; but at the same time they still have a majority. It's very easy to say Steve Ballmer is screwing things up when he took control of a company already on the top. But I suppose none of that matters and you're just looking at every mistake and failure of Microsoft and hoping they fail?

Look at how many times Google has failed and they are still as successful as ever.

Steve Ballmer is doing a terrible job compared to the competitors. He stayed out of the mobile market for way too long, thinking it wouldn't be important. See Zune vs iPod, or how they completely (still do) lack a usable tablet OS. Sure, Microsoft still has a monopoly on desktops (because all computers are shipped with Windows, well played Bill Gates), but that doesn't make Steve Ballmer any better. Didn't IBM recently surpass Microsoft in wealth or value as well? Microsoft is nothing compared to what they were 5-10 years ago. We'll just have to wait and see how popular their tablet OS'es will become. Even if they can force many hardware manufactures to stop selling other OS'es and ship Windows by default, I somehow feel they're going to have a hard time. Oh, and what about Bing? I wouldn't really call that a success. Ballmer is an idiot, you know it. I also wouldn't say they're doing well in the phone market, either.

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Being a super billionair and not donating anything makes you an asshole. Sure that's my "opinion", but lets cut the bull here. There's people working for $7.50 (or less) an hour and suffering everyday to protect his freedoms and services so a society can exist for him to get there and he gives nothing back. They have one of the best healthcare systems. They do advance, but the pressure to advance is a bit low there. But is that a bad thing?

Sabzi

2011-10-09 08:09:52

Be aware my post is based only on the last 2 other post :P.

Being "advanced" in a way or another really doesn't mean too much. For example people in some places live for a month(or actually more) from what you spend in a day and they got everything they need. They work much less, they have much much less stress to handle. Of course they don't have iphones(oh, bit on-topicness, I guess), big-ass tvs, but they simply don't need it. They don't feel like: "Oh, my neighbour just got a better car, now I feel I am less then him."
And frankly, I wish I could live that life, but the change is hard/scary for me to make(or do).(also I consider myself young)
That's a totally other type of life approach.

Soooo, @masterBB: No, it is not a bad thing, imo.
I am sorry for the off.(kind-of)
