So I've been thinking about this for a while. We should all start a movement where we +rep useful posts around here. I've been as helpful as possible here and I am yet to get +repped, I have one negative rep and I feel that we should start using this a little bit more often to encourage users a little bit more. You can agree or disagree with me, but I'm a member at other vBulletin forums and when you rep someone for contributing it makes a more positive impact on the community.
Plenty of people give/receive rep. Takes time for people to feel like 'repping' you though.
Just keep at it, people will appreciate your contributions the longer your here and more active you are. :)

Yeah, people use derep as a way to anonymously flame someone. Quite silly, I've suggested rep be made public (to the person who received it), but people disagree.
Rep itself is just silly, so I keep it disabled.

Yeah, there is no real use of rep on the forum.
You'd think that rep would equal reputation but that's not the way it is
Ironically I have the most amount of rep on the forum, but Wiz, WT-F, tara, Hobbit, Coh3n, nielsie95, sumilion and a lot of other people deserve way more rep

Stop caring about rep and your life will be better

i think it should be public.
and i think if you de-rep/rep it should be for a reason…
I see a LOT of the following:
"I HATE LOTR."
de-repped by Coh3n ~ I HATE YOU
++Repped by hobbit ~ I LOVE YOU
(obviously this is an example… :P) It's just silly. Rep is stupid…

Receiving rep shouldn't be your main priority on this site, helping out the community should.

Rep can't be taken too seriously because everyone and anyone can rep, however when you take a glance at a person's profile and you see a few green squares, or a red square, it immediately does tell you something about that person;
Were there to be an SRL-Member application by someone who had three green squares… you could be pretty sure that person would get in, after all they're already reputable in the community…. now I'm not saying go collecting rep before applying - Rep is something you get along the way.

Aye well said. I agree this above anyone else's response.
