SRL Archive - Gaming

First off, Welcome! The point of this topic is too get people to partake in an experiment where we will simulate a real economy. New players will start of with nothing, and they get added to the town and given a free plot. Now they start mining, collecting resources, etc. to make money of their own. Now, an admin might use /i or /give or whatever. What is essentially going to happen is the mayor will take money out of the town bank and buy stuff off the VirtualShop whenever he wants to build something or for community projects. The is the equivalent of a government building bridges and infrastructure to boost the economy.

Now players have money and they can bull/sell with each other. They pay taxes (amount TBA) that go to the mayor so he can continue with government projects. So now you can see the flow of money back and forth. No money is lost or spawned.

Nice. It would be cool if you added banks! And if you're to lazy to build a house, you can rent the money from the bank to buy one. Like a mortgage. And it would be even more awesome if you can sell as being a bank an insurance about that mortgage to spread the risk and creating more money.

Yeah i was thinking about all that stuff too, but the thing about the mortgage and stuff is that ill have to create a program that sets a certain interest rate, certain amount of payments over time, yada yada yada. I might actually consider making it that extensive if it turns out really cool and fun. But first i just need the beginning stages such as stage 1: finding people who want to participate :P

Nice to see some people interested. Before I start though i need to know who would like to be the mayor and who would like to be a resident. Mayor would have to take on some big responsibility and collect taxes and use them wisely to keep the economy stimulated. I could be mayor, but i was actually planning on continuing with my house and watching the progress from the outside (not the in). Anyone can be mayor just respond to me. Once mayor has been chosen i will start the server and any of the people who replied that they will do it can help choose the new area for the town.

Thanks for the dedication, but the problem here would be that you would be paying yourself for items.
Example: Mayor(awkwardsaw), "im going to build a public library!"
Woodcutter(also awkwardsaw), " alright ill sell you wood"
Mayor, "alright here is the cities money… or is it my (the woodcutters money) oh crap how much did the city have and how much did the woodcutter have? oh well who cares, either way im rich! shopping spree!"
all hypothetical of course but i think you get the point ;P

that would work, the only thing is that the once or twice a week you would have to make sure you chop a lot of wood and sell to everyone thatt needs wood for w/e purpose. If you can then i'll put you down.

I think it would also be cool to run a timberland business. I'll plant giant groves of trees in fenced areas very close to one another, and I'll maintain it for the town (cut/replant) in return for some of the tax money :)

Since I'll be mayor i could sell certain land to people, which means no one else can fuck with their stuff within a certain chunk except for them(and myself :p)

In the mod, the town size is two chunks per person. So what seems logical is to have one chunk "donated" to the town, the other for personal use such as a business or whatever

thats what anti griefing mods are for :P they will only be able to edit blocks while they are a resident of the town, and if they become one and do something stupid they can just be kicked right out.

Well actually we were just going to have one big town with a single economy, but if you can find a whole bunch of people that want to create a town then i see no reason why you cant. I'll give each town 500,000 then and you need to make sure you trade with each other so build a road and then like an outpost in the middle to trade and what not.

Any idea when you will be starting the server? I think 1.8 comes out in 5 days (i think) so i would wait till the new plug in's are out else it all breaks :p

yeah ill check that out and update the original post to look cleaner, show what plugins i have, what version im running, etc. Wouldn't be good if everything broke on the first day. Also I'm using himachi for the server (other types cost money) so if anyone is not acquainted with it download it and play around with it)

The game costs $15, why not just buy it and support the maker if you like the game? Botters should have enough RSGP to sell to get the $15 easily.

UPDATED! Now people will starve if they dont eat, making sure the hunter has someone to sell to :P. Time now set with real clock so when the server goes up you will know what time it is.

yep, whatever time you log in that will be what time it is on the server. If its night you might want to watch for monsters though

Looks like the new update coming soon will be split into 1.8 and 1.9. Its a doozy of an update too. I put up a poll that I would like everyone to vote on. I am still unsure about when the update is coming, so we can just go ahead and put the server up now if we want. The update wont cause any data to be lost so we will still have everything when the update goes out, It will just require a lot of time for me to fix all the plugins/figure out which ones dont work. Please vote and voice your opinion :)

For minning i think an out line to be changed later could be,

We will have a large under ground minning hub TNT any one?
We will strip mine or what ever your style is off that we will also make a slime farm. So rules
I cant remember if your allowing tnt but TNT is to only be used below level 40?
Level 10/20 levels below houses and citys in case they want a basement.
Did i read they give me all the ores and i pay them? or do they keep them? If so no stealing from the work chest and leave a sign saying what you added and ill pay when i get on or borrow the money from some one and i pay them. Although i only just joined the server:p

If there still isn't enough room i will disable towny and let everyone gather resources; however, if i see it being abused it will be turned back on :). You will need to pm awkwardsaw id you want to be added to the town. As we are just starting out it is a slow process but hopefully everyone will be added to the town soon and then you can just log on whenever and chop/mine/sell/w.e.

Can't you just disable destroying objects outside the town? And how could we abuse it? Just a general rule not to build anything "big" outside town.

We're a society, build inside the town :) Should be able to go outside to get materials tho'. Cannot possibly be that much metal under our little town plot.

there should be a way to mine outside of the town if thats what every one is saying. IMO it is stupid if we can only mine under the town but thats my two cent

E: ive been on towny servers atleast i think it was that plugin and diffrent ranks could do diffrent things, so if you make a miner they can use blocks out side of town and in because we really need VERY VERY VERY large areas to strip mine and i have a under ground (under city) hub idea which should be cool

Message from the awesome head builder:
Building a town from scratch is hard hard work, and thus it takes some time to finish. Since people are lazy and I have had to gather most of the resources used today myself, I have not yet made any plots ready to be built on.

In my mind I have a somewhat complete thought on how I should make the town, so in order to make that thought reality I require you all to not build on the side of the hill marked by signs. The other side of the clearly marked border on the hill will be removed, leaving a big flat area where there will be room for plots.

Because of a test on thursday I need to study hard tomorrow and will not be able to continue on the work, leaving you unable to build your pretty homes until friday thursday.

If you feel bored tomorrow you are very welcome to assist in digging away that big block of dirt and rock. You should however not build there yet because I have a specific road system in mind which I will use to surround each plot. Also I require wood (both logs and planks) to complete the town house and build other structures, so gathering wood tomorrow may reward you well in riches. :)

Respecting this will make our town very very beautiful!

I just got home. ;) I be getting on now, mc takes for ever to load on ubuntu

and just saying, we can expand all the way to ~110 chunks. Atm we only have 26. There's no need to build any epic buildings yet, just get as much resources as we can :)

why are people already trying to claim land? we can expand the town by almost 6 times. Also, the only way people can claim it is if i sell a specific chunk for a price

Due to overwhelming demand i now bring you locked chests and doors! so anyone who makes a house can lock their chest and/or door
How to use it:
1.) Create a chest
2.) Punch it
Now you are the owner and the chest is locked!
3.) Punch it again
Now the chest is unlocked!
To Lock a Door:
1.) Target the door and type "/lock"
The item in your hand is set as the key
Users can't open that door unless they have that type of item in their hand
2.) Target the door and type "/lock" while holding nothing
You are set as the owner and the door cannot be locked

hey guys i dont know how to delete that poll so yeah im kinda stuck with that till the 13th… anyways i was thinking about installing the vehicle mod on this server because the boatmod is so buggy. It would require some effort on you part if i did it (because it requires client side mods as well). Here is the link. this can help acces farther away materials and what not as long as we build roads :D

I'd prefer to not do clientside mods, but if everyone wants to I'll do it :)

The lots I made was ment for the mayor to sell/give to the citizens, not for anyone to claim without consulting the mayor :p

ohhhk…well does the mayor object? otherwise I can tear it down. Also I was thinking maybe we could make some type of suspended paths between the houses, that would be kinda cool eh? I have my roof at 4 blocks high, maybe we should do 5 blocks high and have a 2 wide, wait make that 3 wide path since the lot sizes are odd numbers. Anyways just an idea.

Because this is an economic server and the head woodcutter is maintaining the tree grove for us to easily chop a lot of wood. :)

1.8 has been delayed till the 12th. So the server will stay up even longer :D

I was hoping the SRL community would be different than all the other minecraft players only wanting to become rich and build the biggest baddest ugliest building possible. I was hoping we would attempt to play our jobs in an RP way and try to make stuff work like real life, but it seems not. You go ahead and continue your average minecraft mania while I go do stuff people cannot ruin for me, like World of Warcraft. :) So bye bye, my minecraft addiction is fed for now. See y'all ^^,

I've bought 250-300 planks already. Personally I think $2 each is a bit o/p considering how many you get from one piece of wood, but w/e :P

Perhaps you could zip the files? I could then upload it to a server that has almost 100% uptime and better connections, there would hopefully be no lag and the uptime would be 100%.

It's like you build stuff and meanwhile try to survive all the random monsters that are pointlessly annoying and trying to blow up you and all. You can also try to go underground to get shiny stuff while people overground destroy the things you built. You might get some lava on yourself if you are lucky too.

do you know how to change the sever properties to the right ip and then forward the port? I figure you do but just making sure. Tell me where you want it sent. I think it is fine for right now. and I'll just work on it in my own time and post big updates and send the files to you for updating.

Added you on Skype but you haven't accepted. Send the files to [email]frement@windowslive.com[/email] (also my MSN so you can add me). Why would I need to forward the port? Also the IP should be 127.0.0.1 when I'm running it, I just want to know if the plugins work in linux? :norris:

alright i sent it. The way i did it was attach it to my static ip address and port forward 25565. then tell everyone my (ip:25565) to login.

You can see the first post for information on the jobs that are yet to be filled, like 1 Woodcutter, 1 Hunter, etc.. If theres something you like, post here and join the job with the commands found on the first page. You need to be added to the town first, xSaintias can do that when he's online.

I can make it so you can have as many jobs as you want… and no you lose everything when you switch jobs (I haven't tried so as far as I know you can change this).

oh and troll sorry but this new update sent all the backpack plugins to shit. You'll have to wait a bit longer if you want a backpack.

It didn't connect if the online was set to false, I set it to true so it would connect.

EDIT: I set it back to false, and now I can connect also, I don't know why it didn't work before.

Everyone should buy the stuff from the market, rather then mining or cutting them. If you are a hunter, you hunt, and buy the material you need from miners, woodcutters or smiths. Thats how this should work.

hmm this happened to me when I downloaded 1.8 pre release. I found a diffrent dl site and it worked.

We are changing ISP because of DDoS attacks, the connection was downgraded to 10/10MBit. Everything should be ok in 03.10.

That particular server was not under attack, rather some public CS: Source servers that the customers had.
