What's the difference between Simba and SCAR?

I used to be a long time user of SCAR back in the day, and I've recently come to a need to use the program again, but someone mentioned Simba and SRL.

What are the differences, GUI-wise and programming-wise? What features does it not have, that SCAR did? Is it light-weight like the old versions of SCAR (v.1.12), or is it bulky like the newer ones?

Thanks

Scar and Simba do mostly the same things and are very similar except Simba is developed by the SRL community and SCAR is developed by Freddy1990.

Which version of SCAR are you talking about?

Simba has some cool functions like Base64Encode and other useful functions and procedures. It also has some nifty global variables like maxInt and so on.

First, of all Welcome back man!!!

In an effort to start a fight… Simba is open-source and Scar is not. Some claim simba is better and others claim SCAR is supperior. Of coarse you also have your Scar Titan vs Lape stuff. Titan and Lape are both *not ready* and not released but have great advantages speed wise. And after that… You simply have the Lion-King movie all over again…

Anyways, now that imboring myself

Welcome Again!

I used version 1.12. Any version after that started to feel more bloated as another team started working on it. I'm not looking for what's better or worse, as it's usually a matter of opinion; I'm just looking for some comparisons of features, ie. different functions in the language, or different features offered by one and not the other. Reading other threads I've searched for didn't seem satisfactory to answer my question.

What is this Titan and Lape you are speaking of?

Thanks

If you're using it for RS, you're doing it wrong.

It had to become bulkier. RuneScape is much more advanced now, and so we have had to become much more advanced. It's just the way the world works.

Well for the most part, they're very similar. The functionality is similar and everything, but we're drifting apart from each other from what I can tell.

Not 100% sure about Titan, but I know that Lape is a new interpreter (PascalScript-esque, but better) that we're moving to, while Titan is the interpreter that SCAR is moving to. Very likely wrong, but oh well.

Thanks

The biggest difference (and deciding factor for me) is because Simba is open source. I'm not as extreme as some people about OSS, but I do make decisions for botting based on OSS. Just last night there was a bug that someone was having with Script Properties that I believe I fixed (couldn't test as I was having trouble building Simba :/), and it's because Simba is open. :) Which is really a huge reason why Simba is open (so when people find bugs, anyone can try to fix them).

Hope that helps.

(And Simba has also been (extremely) slowly moving toward other languages besides PascalScript, and currently you can make a very script in Python and load up SMART, get colors, and move the mouse. :))

I don't use it for RS. I haven't even played that game for the past 5 years or so.

True, but I still like the feel of lightweight applications over bulky applications.

I get the picture, thanks.

Well I do prefer open source over closed source software when they have similar functions, but it's not my deciding factor.

Sounds like fun, but I don't know python lol.

Thanks for the clarifications

go with simba then. Simba is open sourced and they are featurewise, very similar. were titan out, i would suggest that.

*SCAR Titan does not use an interpreter like Simba and previous versions of SCAR, it compiles your script to native machine code and then executes it (hence the huge speed increase).

Plus writing Titan scripts is a lot more like writing Delphi code rather than scripting. So depending on your preference of scripting or programming, that will affect your decision as well.

Wait what. Freddy wrote a Delphi compiler? lol.

Not necessarily, it's just that Titan scripts are now object oriented making them more like Delphi than a scripting language.
