I came across this site, http://alice.pandorabots.com/
Basically it gives replies and stuff, it works as a responder but it also learns its not really runescape stuff related but it could be made to work with auto responders in rs to work with general talking in game? I was wondering if anyone could look into this and make it ? would be a good addition. Sorry for not giving much info, on my phone

I used to chat with Smarter Child on msn.. such an awsome bot, ..all the naughty stuff we talked about :p

Alice would probably go on explaining that it's a bot from the machine kingdom..

That was my ultimate goal with GhostSpeak - to eventually integrate it with a third-party bot. I wish Cleverbot had an API.

You can just POST to http://cleverbot.com/webservicemin … but the devs intentionally had it that way to prevent people destroying their servers like that :p Here is a useful script if you're wanting to do it but not look at their code http://pastebin.com/KSfJ4wL9

Only issue with all these that I see is that they won't properly handle the most common questions, making you look like an obvious bot: "lvl?", and such.

There's also ELIZA I think. One of them is open source is it not? Still, we've had ideas like this previously, but perhaps now we have more combined knowledge to actually make this. :)

Well the biggest problem is definitely (in my mind) that people in rs are stupid. They're not consistent with typing, they can't spell, don't have any proper English at all, and use at least a dozen variations of any one word at any time. It's a hassle on the logic side of it, and then especially when sentences are broken apart many lines. Are the lines continuous or are they separate thoughts?

Using an already made 'Turing-approved' program may not even be a step up from nothing. So using ELIZA or ALICE or any other seems a bit silly to me. The knowledge those know aren't what would suffice for general talk in runescape. The logic isn't incredibly difficult, it's really just building up a database of how stupid people are.

I dunno. There's been plenty of talk and numerous attempts at something like this, but it's never very effective. It could be, but there's a lot of space to be taken care of. Where will this database live? How will it be sorted? How can it know that level, lvl, lv, levl, lvel, etc. all mean the same thing without a human sorting it all by hand? Etc.

Markov chains could be another option. And I'm sure I can think of something for the hosting… ;)

Would you really want to host all of that information with tons of traffic (especially if we wanted it to really work, any new text would be sent to the db)? I'm fine with whatever (doesn't affect me in any way :p), but just wondering.

And I don't think Markov chains really touch on all of my points. To me they look like they're more related to statistics/probability, which would help with some things, but not all.

Well, if you realize the rotating banners already take up about twice the amount of text you type in chat on a single day - I don't think it's too serious. Also, remember that the banner prevent caching too. ;)

Then again, I don't think it would be that much either? You could even have local databases.

If something like this was taken seriously, it would need quite the collection of things to respond to. It wouldn't be extremely huge, I suppose, but it also wouldn't be small. And I would prefer there to be a 'central' db with all of the information so that each person wouldn't have a different database, giving them a different experience. It would suffice, in my opinion, to simply get the db once at run time and use the local version after that.
