Simba 0.97

Wizzup?

2011-08-03 18:31:25

Hiya!

Long time no release! I think it's nearly six months since we released 0.96? We'll try to get 0.98 released a lot sooner, especially with the new branching system, I suppose.

We were not sure if we should just release 0.97 or do another release candidate, but we've decided to just release it and hold the Simba autoupdater for a few days or so. Once this is confirmed not to raise any major issues, We'll make sure the Simba autoupdater does its job. (Note that only as of 0.97 it will also update the extensions; so you'll have to manually download the extension.sex if you don't want to do a new install.)

Download

Simba 0.97 Documentation

There's also now a default settings.xml in the installer, which has one extension enabled (you can guess which one: the extension updater).

If this release does cause serious issues, we'll make sure to quickly put out Simba 0.97.1, but I don't expect any complications.

Oh, and this Simba has also been compiled with the latest Lazarus-fixes branch, so let's hope it fixes more issues than it causes.

Change list: (Same as http://wizzup.org/simba/releases.html#simba-0-97-stable-release)

Changes since simba-0.96 include (but are not limited to!):

WARNING and ERROR directives
Initial External Editor / Read-Only mode support.
Added two global keybindings. Ctrl+Alt+R and Ctrl+Alt+P. Their effect is starting the script and launching the colour picker, respectively.
Documentation updates. ( special thanks to Echo_ )
Added extension.sex, the Extension updater. (Make sure you enable it!)

Bugs fixed:

Memory clean-ups and fixes.
Started work to make Simba more modular.
Added FilterTPACustom
Updater form no longer shows when there is no update.
Fix tab closing via ‘x’ on Widget sets other than win32.
Fix INCLUDE_ONCE.
Disguise also changes the name of the application now.
Console is hidden by default.
StrToInt raises an exception on invalid string. ( Resolves Bug #298 ) Make sure you don’t forget to use StrToIntDef if you want to keep the behaviour similar to the old StrToInt!
Allow CTS 2 for bitmaps. ( Resolves Bug #297 )
Change UK/US language usage inconsistency. ( Resolves Bug #296 )
Keyboard layout is now properly used in SendKey/SendString ( Resolves Bug #307, Bug #299 and Bug #288 )
HTTPS support when openssl is installed. (Resolves Bug #295 )
Added Log10, even though we already had LogN.
Extension updates, to the paster extension and a new extension: the extension updater. (extension.sex)
Fix memory leak in FindBitmapSpiralTolerance (leak only effective on Linux)

Installer notes:

Removed Fonts/ from the installer. (They are installed on launch anyway)
Removes Tests/PS from the installer.
Security extension doesn’t seem to compile at the moment.
Provided a default settings.xml which is both portable and enables the extension.sex extension by default.

Apparently there's an issue with the portable settings.xml, so I suggest removing it on install. :(

Expect 0.97.1 tomorrow, not sure if it will carry portable fixes or just have the settings.xml removed. :)

Issue being if you are cd'd to another directory, it will fail to load all that stuff. Such as if you launch a script via Windows Start/Jump Menu.

Released Simba 0.97.1 with no settings.xml, http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65837.
Links updated accordingly. There's no need to install it if you're on 0.97 already, you can just remove your settings.xml instead.

(Please note that this removes the portable Simba feature, which was buggy. It'll be implemented properly later.)

Stable, it's a stable release with stable fixes. 0.98-rcX will be unstable ones.
If you mean regarding the auto updates; 0.97 is a public release, not a dev release. Just waiting on a bit more feedback before updating the auto updaters. :)

0.97.1 is the same as 0.97 but without the settings.xml file in the installer.

Last question. What happened to the Auto-update function that Simba had when it was starting out? Does it work now? Part of being user friendly and all :) Thought I'd ask about it.

From 1st post.

We were not sure if we should just release 0.97 or do another release candidate, but we've decided to just release it and hold the Simba autoupdater for a few days or so.

Meaning it won't auto-update for a few days.

It depends on the directory you run Simba from. Removing the settings.xml will fix future problems. :)

Simba 971 is now in the auto updater. Don't forget to update your extensions and enable the extension updater, as mentioned in the ``news''.

I believe the debug hints to the fact that it fails to open the paste for me.

Error in extension simba (Paster): invalid type cast.

Comes up in the debug box EVERY time I close simba. You can only see it for a split second while simba closes, unless you run a script, let smart run and then click close simba. After it askes if you want to stop and save the script, simba then freezes up for a bit and you will see the error message. Also I tried to take a print screen while this message was up but yet it would never save to be able to paste it :S like simba freezes the computer when closing.

Hope this helps at all :)

Edit: I also get an error like what yago gets. Not at the same time tho as what I've pointed out.

Perhaps your settings.xml tries to load both old and new extensions. Try renaming it to settings.xml.old or something; see if that helps.

Well, that paste server-application doesn't seem to be too stable. Try using paste.pocoo.org (you can change this in the settings, or perhaps even with the GUI)?

SPS is separate at the moment (excluding sps.simba). I added sps.simba to SRL because it was really the only file that was getting updated and it was easier to have it automatically update through Simba, than have everyone manually update it. The images and .dll are downloaded separately.

Like I said on the other thread, a solution will be made as soon as possible. If you want the most up to date SPS, download it from here. It includes a new .dll and updated world map + images. Make sure you save it to your includes folder, not C:\Simba\Includes\SRL\SRL\core\SPS. Keep it mind it may not be perfect, there's still some things I need to work out before an "official" release.

It's marpis' 100% color positioning system for RS. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be included in the Simba download, but apparently it is. I believe it's going to be included with SRL5 so that's probably why.

The thread with all the SPS info is here: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62286&highlight=marpis

Source can be found here. The first post of the thread NCDS linked isn't up to date (the discussion is, though). I'll be making a new thread with everything updated and linked to my git repo as soon as it's ready and I have time.
