Extension updater extension?

Seeing that as soon as we touch extensions we have no way to distribute them to users with older extensions (Other than to tell them to reinstall or manually override their old extensions), why not create an extension (like the SRL and Reflection one) that keeps the Simba extensions ( including itself :) ) up to date?

Sounds like *the* solution to me… At least until we get the script manager working.

Mind explaining how the script manager will fix this? Will it be used to basically keep everything up to date?

Well, scripts and extensions.

Well, yes. But I didn't want to imply it would also update Simba.exe. It would probably also update Includes, I suppose. So ``everything'' but not the Simba.exe, and only ``everything'' that you actually want it to update. :)

Wizzup, It can be made in like 5 mins less than 50 lines of code with Updater.sei >..>

Might be a fun experiment for someone other than me then. :)

Updater.sei is an include for extensions. SRL.sex and MSI.sex use it.

I think you'd still need to manage the archives online?

yes =( Unless we make it work of of GitHub. Simba's GetPage has SSL =)

Edit: here, needs your link to the file with version and the tar.bz file with all exts.
Edit: Maybe we should make it use GitHub, =)

program ExtUpdater;
{$I ..\Extensions\Updater.sei}

procedure Init;
var
EXT: integer;
begin
Settings.GetKeyValueDef('Extensions_Visible', 'false'); //Default Menu to be hidden =)
AddUpdater('Extensions', 'tar.bz link', 'version link', ScriptPath, True, True, EXT);
end;

function GetName: string; begin Result := 'Extensions Updater'; end;
function GetVersion: string; begin Result := '0.1'; end;
begin end.

Yes, but writing the code doesn't require me to have the archives online, I suppose.

Added to the git repos, slightly modified:

program ExtUpdater;
{$I ..\Extensions\Updater.sei}

procedure Init;
var
EXT: integer;
begin
Settings.GetKeyValueDef('Extensions_Visible', 'false'); //Default Menu to be hidden =)
AddUpdater('Extensions', 'http://wizzup.org/static/srl/exten.tar.bz2',
'http://wizzup.org/static/srl/exten_version', ScriptPath + {$IFDEF WINDOWS}'\' {$ELSE}'/'{$ENDIF}, True, True, EXT);
end;

function GetName: string; begin Result := 'Extensions Updater'; end;
function GetVersion: string; begin Result := '0.1'; end;
begin end.

Do we want it to be invisible by default though? I suppose so.

In the extensions list? Shouldn't it be enabled by default?

Currently we don't have a way to automatically enable extensions. I suppose I could hack it in for the Extension updater; but it may be a bit problematic. :)

I'm sure if you need to, you can make it work. ;)

Would be nice, if you haven't done this already, to pop up a box in simba, when started, to say simba has been updated do you want to go to project simba to get the new version ? I've only ever seen it say anything about version in the debug message box

Just hides the menu, can easily be made visible again by clicking a menuitem in teh View menu.

Do you mean Simba or the include/ext updaters?

The inc/ext updaters default to auto-updating but you can turn it off in there menus. Which if you have auto-checking on will notify you of an update.
