I've sent 2 messages and neither of them have shown in my sent box, I also sent one to myself which I received, but it is still not in the sent box.

User CP->Settings and options->Edit settings->'Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default'

Have you ticked the box? There is an option for it, I don't remember if it's ticked by default.
