[BUG] rs_GetUptext()

Coh3n

I've experienced in other RS areas as well, but I was able to catch it in the GE. NCDS also mentioned the other day that he was having trouble reading chat box text; the period ('.') was being recognized as a question mark, so the bug may be further than just rs_GetUptext().

What the uptext is:

Withraw-1 Rune Hatchet / 7 more options
What rs_GetUptext is returning (seems to vary depending on the compass angle):

Withraw-1 Run,e l,atchet / 7 more options t
Withraw-1 Run,e l,at0het / 7 more options . . .
Withdraw-1 llun,e l,atcl,et / 7 more options
Withdraw-1 Run,e l,atcl,et / 7 more options. .
D(ithdraw-1 Run,e l,atcl,et / 7 more options
Withd^w-1 llun,e l,atcl,et / 7 more options
Not sure if this would be related to the fonts; that's what I'm here to find out. :)

E: Picture of when it happens (just one example):

It's been this way for a while..

Getting a lot worse over time though!

Has it been reported before?

It's well known at least

Lol good to know it's been worked on.

It happens when the color behind the text is similar to the uptext color. Wizzup? once released a program to show all the different steps rs_GetUpText did in order to debug it properly…… The icon of the program was the default Lazarus one, but I don't remember the name of the program :S

I'll have to talk to him later about it. This is happening when the colors aren't really similar as well.

E: The image in the first post isn't even that close. =\

Not sure what happened with "View.all . ." and "Cl,aos run.e." Those options are on the way to the rune hatchet coords, but getUptext isn't called until after MMouse… something in MMouse also perhaps?
That must be Runescape which is responding slower than simba

Ah yes, makes sense. :) I'll remove them. It didn't happen again after I added a wait before calling rs_GetUptext().

Here's the program Wizzup? made: https://github.com/MerlijnWajer/Simba/tree/master/Projects/OCRBench

You'd have to compile it though… I'll continue searching for an .exe, but I doubt I'll find anything

E: Screw that, I found it: http://simba.villavu.com/bin/Tools/OCRTests/Windows/x86/OCRBench.exe
E2: Wizzup? said the .exe might be outdated.

Doesn't help with clearly reading the wrong text in the chat box though. :/

I'm still trying to put together a 'work around' for that, though I didn't have any time to today yet really.

That sounds a lot more like a Font issue then. :)

the other could be interference due to back ground noise.

Yes, I'm just hoping it's fixable, otherwise we may have some problems.

So what is the issue exactly? Both Uptext and Chatbox-text related?

For the chat box text everything seems to work good except it recognizes a '.' as a '?' on every occurrence. I've also seen it add in a few '.'s at the end as is shown in Coh3ns post occasionally, but not nearly as often.

I would think so, but the uptext seems to be more of a concern, and it reeallly messes up depending on the color behind the text.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Wizzup?

2011-08-29 14:21:01

Yes, provide screenshots where it fails. Then someone (me?) can tweak the colour filters. You could also try running OCRBench and see where it is failing. (Is the latest OCRBench up to date? I'm unsure)

I need a few more weeks of time, but then I'll have heaps of spare time for SRL.
Still, OCRBench would be a good first step. If you can't get it to work, let me know and I'll update the binary.

I'm not really sure how to use it. I ran it and selected the client, but when I hit OCR Bench, this comes up.

E: There's also a screenshot in the first post that may help.

You need to select the font path. :)

Coh3n

2011-08-30 19:23:52

Oh that's what Set Path does? :p Did that, but now I get this:

And yes, 100.bmp does exist.

Its looking for the directory. It appears as though you put the font path too deep.. at least that's what I'm reading from it.

Again, just curious.

Coh3n

2011-09-01 00:42:06

If that's the path it's looking in, it's right. I think I set it to Fonts/UpChars.

I think you should set it to Fonts/ only. But I'll really have to take a look at it myself later I suppose.

That was what I was implying. Considering the other OCR functions expect just the Fonts folder.

Alright I'll try it when I get home next week. On a road trip at the moment.

E: Okay, finally started doing this. I'll provide more screenshots the more I find.

Actually, it doesn't look too bad. To be honest I'm quite impressed with the work having not seen it for months. :p
The 'rt' has always been an issue since they are basically one character; they have no spacing whatsoever. In the first few screenshots the 'n' and 'm' look a bit bugged though, thanks for the information Coh3n. :)

No problem. The last two examples are pretty bad, but I think the GE banner colors are very similar if not the exact same as the white text, so I'm not really sure what you could do about that.

If you need more examples just let me know.

I'll need to make a new version. I was just wondering if you ran into issues when running scripts. If that's not the case, then it's probably better since the RS update. (nice… thanks jagex!)

Coh3n

I haven't run into any issues, no, but I'll keep an eye open.

Narcle

2011-12-12 17:24:16

I know this issue comes up when background colors look similar to UpText and completely makes the first word (if its all white) just unreadable in general. Its rare but happens in some places without trying. I think shadows should be regarded more.

Tickyy

Some newcomers are complaining about not finding the ores and stuff like that on my superheater, mainly because of the uptext(i guess), it seems like sometimes it fails at uptext.
