I voted runaways banner. Dervish one reminds me of a pokeball for some reason.

We were looking for a Favion, Frement provided that. The others are more like banners.

Dervish's gear can be scaled into a favicon, and Runaway provided a small gear favicon image along with his banner.

All are very nice, especially Silent Spy's and Runaways and Dervishes.

I like frement #2, has a cool blue and is simple

i think that a gear is a nice representative symbol, similar to the tractor in function. that and its simpler than all the others, while being nice to look at too.

Allthough Dervish's one seems to prevale, I realy like Frement's triangular approach. The three lines and the three balls will be uberrecognisable (sp) as favicon. Maybe Dervish wheel can be broken up in three segments aot. the four they are now?

I'm sure the actual gear part could be modified. We'll need a scaled version to use as the favicon anyway.

I have to agree with this. Honestly, if you put Frement's triangle with Dervish's "SRL" and made the blue match Dervish's, I think that would probably have the best outcome.

Well we did hold a vote, but in the end, it's up to the SRL Leaders, but I agree, the triangle is different and unique, a gear is just a gear.

a gear is a symbol, just like the tractor was a symbol. A triangle with circles is just a triangle with circles.

Since the poll is now closed, we'll be using Dervish's for the banner and (probably) the favicon as well. Thanks to everyone who voted, and stay tuned for the forum updates (still not sure when exactly that will happen).

The "SRL Resource Library" isn't the original from Dervish. I didn't have the font.

Yep, I would vote for that one atm. And I agree with Frement on the symbol vs object "debate".

That was my original idea.

a triangle with circles doesnt really represent anything specific. Even if that is supposed to be three people, the most significant symbol i get is "community". Imo, the gear is representative of what is done at the forums and how it is done. I also think the gear would scale better, but i would have to seem them both as favicons.

What a great idea. I think that would be fair if you see how much time everyone has spent on these favicons.

In the second one, the symbol isn't centered in the middle.

Took me some time, but now I know what is bothering me in the letters: You have sloped the endings of the Letter "S". Can you slope the endings of the "R" and the "L" too?

The top two have the primary colors on the circles to represent SRL's color base. The first one has some reflections on it. To, well, represent our use of reflection as well. The last two have a similar color scheme to what Frement has put up.

I think the colours are cool, but the triangles are too thick and I don't like the text as much as Frement's. Not bad though. :)

Really? I felt that Frement's were too thin and empty. To each his own. As for the text, I do like Frement's as well. I could try again if you would like.

May as well give it a shot. :)

At small resolutions it looks quite thin and spidery.

Regardless, it is a nice logo; props to Frement. I don't think it is quite there yet though.

I'd have to agree with you there; however, I still have the old favicon in my browser. :(

For the actual browser Icon it's probably better if it has a small colored square to sit on. So play around with some colors as a background to see what works out.

I have no object to trying the gear and see if that looks better. I just do not want to do the graphics work myself.

The problem is that they're all going to look bad small, 1: because they have not background so for some it might look good, and for other bad, 2: because they dont scale well, and at least for the images i was working with, they scale bad/dont look good zoomed in on even at the original resolution. I tried making it look kind of buttonish like some other favicons i have seen - , but i feel like it needs to be made as a vector image in the first place to make it look good at all resolutions.

Agreed, but on your previous point about vectors:


Vectors allow resizing while retaining the integrity of the image; which is very important for logos. I will re-make the gear as a vector, or whatever else needs to be, if it will help.

i personally, really liked your first, colored/beveled one the most. I got about 2 minutes into trying to make the gear vectory and then quit though :P

Perhaps we could re-do the gear too, and have a final vote for the favicon? As this was a combined poll for banner/favicon.

I suppose it could be done, but I don't think it will matter. Whatever ends up being used won't make everyone happy.

That looks pretty cool, but I'd rather see SRL in it rather than just the S. May be too crammed though.

InkScape is a good Vector Graphics program, if you're looking for one.

Here's what the gear looks like at smaller resolutions:

yea, idk. i tried putting "SRL" in the favicon above, but it was rather crammed. The S looks good enough for me since most graphics will just look not as good small (the gear looks good in what i assume is 32x32, but in the smallest one it does look like a target.)

The larger one is 48x48, while it does look somewhat like a target you can see the teeth still. I don't know. So you were trying to stick "SRL" into the gear?

Eh, use the Srl dev cup as the favicon? It looks cool enough.

I think it's too hard to tell what it is.

I think if Frement's (the current one) is just edited a little bit to be a little thicker/good on any background colour, we'd be good to go.

Thicker yes, but not yours. No offense, but I like Frement's better. They're similar, though. I think yours is a little too thick and I don't like the ball in the middle.

well i dont see what the point in going with frement's would be…if his icon isnt the one being put into the banner. if the banner icon doesnt look nice in the favicon, then putting an S seems like the best idea. Having two different icons makes no sense if you want SRL to have a logo.

In my opinion this is not about winning or losing, this is of getting the best favicon/symbol/icon and banner that we can get.

I think thats what he's asking as well, and thats what i want to know as well.

well so far it has seemed like people have been wanting to ignore the actual winner, and put up a different one. I mean you could just do a re-vote to see if the opinion has changed, but then whats stopping you from doing so a month from NOW. Doing a revote just seems silly to me since one was already voted in. Problem that we are at now if that so far most of the vfavicons look subpar because of how small they are. Which is why i quite liked because it doesn't really contradict the actual banner, but rather shows that you're on Srl, whereas if you have two different real images like the triangle and a cog, like the situation we kind of have right now, it would kind of be conflicting as to which was the actual image that is supposed to represent srl.

So i don't really see the problem.

I agree with Dan. A re-vote is just counter productive and we're not really getting anywhere as everyone wants something different. Since it was voted on, Dervish's banner should be put into place now (in the middle of the screen preferably). The gear doesn't look the best as a favicon and the triangle looks shitty on dark background colors.

I think the S should just be used. If need be, it could be put into the background of the banner, but I really don't think that's necessary.

yes. the s is just the s in srl, no need to make it significant. Favicon's only purpose is for identifying tabs.

I don't mind the S with a box around it.


That also allows us to use Dervish's banner (since it was the one voted). I don't think there's any reason we have to have part of the banner as the favicon.


I think the best time to implement these and the introduction page would be when we switch from vBulletin.

That's a question for Wizzup. I suppose the banner and favicon could be easily done at any time.

It is usually pretty dodgy, it would probably get the text, but vectors are usually done by hand (n).
