Nice! :)

How come you need a run-me.bat file? Can't you just run Simba.exe?

E: Seems to work fine for me. Just running Simba.exe doesn't though, even though the default.simba file is set to MSI's RunMe. Not sure what's up with that. Also, a suggestion, include SPS; although that may increase the size significantly, I'm not sure.

I'll look into SPS tomorrow. The reason for the bat is exactly what your edit says. MSI wouldn't come up as default for some reason after being moved around.

Should be able to get it to work rather than having to use a .bat as a workaround. May need to contact Wizzup?. Or, did you set the script to default from Simba, or did you copy/paste it in to defaut.simba then save.

You may have to do it through Simba.

I'v changed your password, because you accidentally left it in one of the files.

Wizzup is the one who came up with the idea for the .bat file. :p I tried setting it in Simba, no go.

I thought Simba was already portable?

Silent

2011-07-08 16:48:45

No, that's why you have to run an installer each time you use it and turn on the srl/reflection/MSI etc. extensions. This isn't much quicker, as the download is bigger, but it saves a few clicks.

ok, so if i simply install it to a memory stick, and make sure that my memory stick is given the drive letter of w: all the time surely it will work just fine wouldn't it.

Yep, just make sure it has the same drive letter, doesn't need to be w:

Correct on the drive letter. This eliminates the need for a drive letter to be setup. If you used this as the primary install source, you could then simply copy your Simba directory to wherever and it would run.

Nothing that complicated. Simply opened up the settings xml file and changed all the paths so that they didn't look for a specific drive or location. Just inside the Simba folder.

That shouldn't be too hard to reproduce into the official Simba installer, or even a short guide on how to change it manually. If the Simba binaries aren't edited in the case of this program, then it shouldn't be any problem.

Guide would be easy, but the problem with doing it in the offical Simba installer is that by default none of the extensions are enable. This has them enabled, for that to happen I had to turn on the extensions and update them myself. Then zip it into the self extracting file. If they we set to be on be default then it would be the exact same thing as this.

"Defined SPS in MSI"

So you have it set to use SPS, or you've just defined it? I know RunMe.simba has the walking method set to Color by default, but I'm not sure about the form. Also, you may want to include somewhere that as soon as someone installs this way, they should check for updates for Reflection/SRL/MSI. Unless it's set to automatically do so already. :)

BraK

2011-07-11 08:02:20

The form doesn't default either when I checked last night. It will than most likely default to color. :)

I'll look into the form. The box is checked but for me for some reason the auto update has never really worked that great, I'll try to find a way to make it check on first run somehow.

I hope that's the case, if not I bet I can just set it in the form and save it.

It's been ready the whole time. Some features like SPS have been added, but other than that it has always worked. It just requires updating alot, which is why the versions keep changing, any why I'm planning to write a guide on how to do this yourself.

Does the reflection update when new hooks are aviable?

Silent

2011-07-15 14:36:07

If you are talking about autoupdate I can't say, as it's never really worked for me with Simba, but if you run a simple check for update, then it will update the reflection that it is packaged with.

Coh3n

2011-07-15 15:55:54

Why'd it need to be updated a lot? If the auto-updaters work, you should just be able to run it as soon as you download.

Silent

I suppose it really doesn't. I just always like having the latest and greatest available for the sake of fewer clicks of those who download it.

Then you've had much better luck than I have. Whenever I moved it around the extension menus at the top disappeared, I just changed some paths in the settings file to make them stay. So I really don't know how yours worked. What concerns do you have about ease of use? This is designed to be easier.

EDIT: @ Everyone else, where should I put the guide for running this and building your own? Or should I make two separate guides?

Nope, you just have to run runescape in a browser/client and then restart smart. It only happens sometime though, not for every update.

Reflection has it's own updater for Hooks, The Simba extension doesn't update and infact may downgrade your hooks as the Hooks on GitHub are sometimes old.

I think he was talking about a major Simba version, and I think Simba's updater will handle it, but it's recommended to install with the updated installer.
