Your Computer Specs

I'm just wondering what kind of hardware you are all running, it would be kind of nice to know how my computer stacks up against everyone else's.

I'm using a program called Speccy to post my computer specs. If you have windows this option will work, that or cpu-z, or you can just do a rough version like:

Cpu =
memory =
etc.
Anyway, here is a link to my specs.
http://speccy.piriform.com/results/rmsRRCGw4wFWktAzGCQ4IAW

Btw, Speccy is made by the same company as CCleaner.

SSD's are over rated they aren't really that fast.. only the PCI-E slot ones are

I got a few others in different machines.. the speccy just doesn't run on any linux or os x so I used my only windows machine :P

ASUS motherboard, very nice. Is that 1.5Tb HDD I saw? Or was I misreading it?

Is your SSD on SATA 2.0 or 3.0? Yeah I know I'm sure there are linux alternatives somewhere, I just didn't feel like finding them. I don't use linux often enough.

2.0

just the fact that sata (version & speed don't matter) slows it down extremely makes SSD's not that "amazing" at least they really aren't worth how much they cost.. the PCI-E ones are INSANELY fast, it's like running your entire computer from RAM

the best SSD's that go in sata have like 200MB/s and that isn't really that amazing imo.. my servers 7200RPM hard drives can write at like 100MB/s lol..

My computer is a bit of a wuss compared to all of yours, but it still gets everything I need done.

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (2 cores @ 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

Graphics:
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5750 (1024 MB VRAM)

Motherboard:
Asus P5N-D

RAM:
4 1GB sticks of DDR2 Ram (Total 4 GB, 333 MHz Frequency)

Monitor:
HP 2210m (21.5" widescreen monitor @ 1920x1080)

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

The case it's in is from my original computer - an HP xw4300 workstation. So it looks like I have some old HP factory built computer, but the only thing left of the workstation is the case, PSU, and some cables

E: Oh and for hard drives I have 2 Western Digital Caviar Blue 7200 RPM 500 GB drives mirrored in a RAID array for read speed and reliability. I have an external 300 GB drive for keeping files I want to keep between Windows installs.

My case  I used to have an old white one, but it had major heating issues, so when I rebuilt my computer a few years ago I switched to this one and since it came with a PSU it was a win win for me.

Not necessarily, Coolermaster used to have a deal for the 932 cases and came with a 700 watt Corsair PSU.

I'd wait a while till you want to get a whole new computer

ddr2 is expensive now since it isn't mass produced like ddr3.. so just upgrade to a full computer

Looks like the easiest upgrade you could do would be more RAM. Better CPU would help with running more Simba, but you'd have to find one that matches your socket. Newegg.com;)

EDIT: @kingarabian, yeah I know, but the reviews seemed solid enough when I did my research. You can see the OP for what it's running. I haven't had any issues with it yet.

EDIT 2: Also agree with grats. Especially since AMD just came out with their APU.

The SATA SSDs may not be as fast as the PCI-E SSDs, they are still noticeably faster than an HHD. The difference was huge when I first got my SSD. But anyways… on newegg.ca, you can get a 160gb 740/690 r/w for $450… that has an even better price to performance ratio than my SSD.

Silent

2011-07-09 21:34:48

Using Speccy (assuming you're on Windows) it goes like this:
  1. Download and Install Speccy
  2. Run Speccy from wherever you installed it
  3. Wait for it to analyze your computer
  4. In Speccy go to File->Publish Snapshot
  5. Post URL given here.

So that's basically it, not too hard if you know where the option is.

Huthaifah

How do I run it, and analyze?

Silent

2011-07-09 23:37:23

Well assuming your running Windows 7, and that you installed it after you downloaded it.

Go to Start menu -> All programs ->Speccy -> Speccy (open that one)

It will analyze automatically, and when the list of your hardware is fully populated, you can then follow my first instructions.

Check your bios to see if there is an option like smart fan. I'm not that familiar with Intel boards so i don't know what it's called on there. Anyway, look for an option like that and then if it's off turn it on. Then set the temperatures that you want the fan to be on/off and increase speed, then max speed. It's pretty easy on my ASUS Motherboard.

EDIT: @ Mr. Doctor, that's really not a bad computer for WinXp. I remember my old computer had Windows Xp SP2 running on 256MB of RAM and a 1.6Ghz single core. :duh:

Wow that seems pretty pricy for that build, did you make it long ago when those parts were more price back then? I've also heard hardware tends to cost a bit more in some countries. Nice modular! Those really help in non full tower cases! Hmm maybe the modular and two extra HDDs also made the price a bit more.
