Simba CPU Usage

I've seen several people mention this (especially in Home's new "Is SRL dead" threads). For example:
From: Overtime
The reason why i went to rsbuddy, is because Simba uses up to much resources.

Its a memory hog, and im not going to cough up $250 for a 6 core just to run runescape smoothly..

And im sitting on a quad core and can run more rsbuddy bots than simba.
Is there a specific reason for this? Or is it just the way it is? I'm sure SMART is a contributing factor, but how much? Can it be improved? Does anyone have specific numbers to compare?

Just curious.

well im sure you got yours but if your asking for mine

its anywhere from 100-250k memory open and running on scripts light autofighters. goes down to 60-90k if i disable graphics and minimize. which is basically 1/4th my pcs power although it is a veryyyy old pc.

Hands down i would come back to Simba because the scripts are great and reliable! But the fact that it uses up roughly around 40-50% of my cpu usage is ridiculous.

For example: I can't play black ops and bot with simba at the same time because i'm bottlenecking at 94-100%

With RsBuddy i can play black ops and run Rsbuddy and sit roughly around 74-85%.

I do believe RSbuddy had some memory leaks but they fixed it within a matter of weeks.

This Simba leak has been going on for a couple of months now, if not since it was first released.

I don't hate ya'll, i always come and check up on the news and what not or even see if any new scripts are created.

Heck i even start up Simba everyday to check for updates on SRL/Reflection/MSI

hmm well how can i say this….its really more of a question but …and dont hate…:

is it possible other bots are better than simba srl and all our hard work and effort?
i dont mean certain things i mean on an average overall ratting….

like speed of bot, resoucres it takes, how many u can do at once, off screen (like smart), amount of scripts available, reliability, detectablitiy
like all those….

im not comparing any bots i just mean that like would it make more sense to make a java bot if we were to have that knowledge? and i have no idea if we do…

because i definitly know theres no better community than srl….but as far as bottings aspects go, what are the opinions?

If you look at it strictly as an RS Bot, then yes, absolutely. The Java bots are obviously more popular, have more scripts and users. If you look at quality, reliability and detectability, I think we're either equal or better. Detectability I feel we far outweigh Java bots (just my opinion though). I've always preferred color scripts over reflection/injection.

SRL has always, and will always be more concerned about being the best community that's about learning rather than Runescape botting.

I think disabling the graphics just stops your graphical view on the client, while Simba continues to run the script. It probably uses a bit less memory. Correct me if I am wrong though :)

Disabling graphics, reduces mem usage for me, but the ram usage is too much, most scripts here use too much memory(not saying they're bad). Even my own scripts that I make on purpose to use less mem go from 190k to 300k in an hour. I really wish simba woul'dnt use so much memory :(

It may be reflection that's increasing the usage, but as for the initial usage, that's what I'm trying to figure out. :p

Simba + Smart use about 85-90% CPU on my computer while RSbot only uses around 35%.

Sometimes when I stop a script and close Simba it doesn't actually close, it just freezes making me have to open task manager and end the Simba.exe process. Sometimes it takes a very long time to load the plugins, too. Maybe up to around 30 seconds so I am just sitting there waiting for it to show me the conformation that all the plugins are loaded and all the texts are done.

That never happened with SCAR, as soon as I opened the program I could just click RUN and the script would run, not throw some random error because everything hasn't actually loaded yet. I don't really use Simba that much now, because I could probably run 2 max and reach 100% or I could run 6 RSbots, and just reach 90-95% CPU usage.

Simba is good for multiplayer however, I can run a script and have 6 accounts botted on in a period of say 18 hours (3 hours each) but then I can run 6 rsbots for 3 hours and have it all done. I would use Simba now if there was a good essence mining script and if MSI worked for me.

Edit: Yeah its not the plugins that take ages to load its just the texts. I opened Simba and heard my harddrive getting skinned to the bone for a good 20 seconds before this came up "Loaded fonts: BigChars, CharsNPC, CharsTrade, FriendChars, LoginChars, SmallChars, StatChars, UpChars, XPChars"

The is high, a lot higher as here. Which script were you using? Cause I only use color, and I sure don't got that many CPU usage.

Edit: Any one noticed if you load a script the memory usage goes 14-30k up, just for loading the script? (not running)

Edit: Closing the script doesn't give me my memory back! Simba just stole it.

I have SRL, MSI, and Reflection all fully updated, and I went to run a script and SMART popped up with an error saying

This really shouldn't happen. Everything is up to date. People don't want to download Simba and update everything, spend some time finding a good script only to click "Run" and have SMART throw this error in there face, and when they click OK have Simba just close.

I tried introducing my 13 year old cousin to runescape botting, as she plays runescape herself and I recommended for her to use Simba. She downloaded it, but when she went to download MSI, SRL and Reflection, every single time she got the exact same error saying it was unable to unzip. I got her to install another program because maybe she was missing an upzip program before she just said "Screw it, I don't like this program ill find something else" and she found RSbot and has been using that without a problem since.

Anyway, just then I went to run MSI and when it opened I wanted to remove my player and add in a different player, so when I clicked delete player:

BAM. Maybe it is just me but I thought Simba was written in order to combat the very few bugs SCAR had, when in fact it has so much more itself.:fiery:

Edit: I noticed after closing Simba (Well not closing it, it just crashed on me like it always does) that when I reopened it, it just loaded all the texts/fonts straight away, which leads to me believe it didn't free it. It just left it in the memory.

I already covered the question in the other thread, so I'll only briefly cover them again here. Simba uses relatively more CPU than Java bots, because Simba does different operations on the client. Simba does *not* use a lot of memory, either. On startup, it uses about 20-30 MB RAM and this shouldn't increase a lot. What you are seeing is SMART+Java. (This is why Java sucks).
I'm sure Simba has memory leaks in some places, but I won't accept that Simba is using that much memory. You should either blame Java/SMART (better just Java in general) or scripts.

@Cycro, the SMART error happens after an RS update if you haven't loaded RS in your browser first, but I agree, it shouldn't happen. As for the out of range, like the bitmap error you were/are experiencing, it doesn't happen for me, so I don't know what to tell you.

Simba keeps plugins (Ex. SMART) loaded globally, and they don't get free'd until you close Simba.

I would think if the other bots can do it with less CPU, then SMART could, especially because it should be much smaller considering it doesn't have the extra client features.

Nah, I'm not blaming SMART directly. I'm pretty sure other bots have similar issues. Perhaps we can make SMART invoke the Java Garbage Collector more often. It's really just Runescape using memory, as far as I know. However, to be completely honest I must say I haven't ran SRL in some time, so I can't be completely certain.

I didn't run any script. I didn't load anything. With every script I open Simba uses more memory, I don't get it back when closing it. This is easily 15000 to 30000 kB for each script.

Well from my experience (I run Simba probably 24/7), the memory goes up a lot initially as expected, but when you stop a script or a script is executed, the memory doesn't go down to even close to what it started. When you start the script back up, the memory goes up again, and just steadily increases the more you start/stop a script. Now I realize that Runescape uses a lot of memory, but you should be able to restart/stop/start/whatever a script as many times as you want with your memory hovering around the same should you not?

E: Also, the Java Platform has a separate process running, so shouldn't SMART take advantage of that? Or are they completely different?

Not sure why Wizzup said he won't blame smart directly.. but I surely will.. Not only was smart written in java but also in c++ and its fully 32-bit only.. which uses far more memory and resources than a 64-bit version would.. Secondly the last time smart was updated was ages ago!!

If you push an update that benland doesn't like, it won't be added.. We all know the smart slider doesn't work for cpu usage/ram usage, disabling smart has to be done three four times with a minimize to get full input, starting smart without running the browser first always results in that error, no script loader :P..

you clearly can't just blame it on java.. its not the languages fault, but how the user uses it. We just have to admit that smart is severely outdated compared to other bots.. Its definitely not simba or scar.. I just ran scar to see, not much usage.. invoke smart and bam cpu rockets upward.. All the other bots use threads and make them sleep when not in use.. smart doesn't do that.

Edit: Tried compiling smart but get winmain error.. guess benland the only one who can compile it :P

Like I keep saying, I wouldn't blame SMART for this. ggzz, technically your story simply doesn't hold. SMART is not poorly written and it has no known memory leaks. It's possible to make it leak, but there's nothing SMART itself can do about that; it's up to the Reflection include to free their stuff. That SMART uses ``more memory'' over time is perfectly possible, but that's because Runescape uses more memory over time. SMART inherits all the Runescape memory, which makes whatever we are doing with SMART possible in the first place. It's not so much of a memory hog as Runescape itself is. SMART does use a bit more CPU, this is entirely true. That is because it has to copy the Runescape client to an offscreen (read: invisible to you, in memory) bitmap which Simba reads from. This has the advantage that Simba doesn't have to retrieve the bitmap itself which is already a considerably speedup. Otherwise we'd have to use the Windows API to copy the contents for us to a bitmap. While this is more useful because it's an on demand feature - I think it's actually slower for most operations.

It would perhaps be interesting to see if we can make SMART only copy on demand - that is only if Simba does a Find/Get Color/Bitmap call. That would limit the FPS SMART has to the absolute minimum required by Simba. Ben, I think this might actually turn out to be interesting.

We all know the smart slider doesn't work for cpu usage/ram usage

Who's we ? I place the slider at the bottom and obviously the fps shows to slow and from what I can see uses less cpu. Before knowing about the slider at the side of smart i could only run 2 maybe 3 but when i put the slider at the bottom of ALL smart windows I can then run 5.

E: I do see cpu usage shoot up from 60% where it sits to like 90%+ but i have always put that down to reflection and was thinking that reflection 2 should sort that out.

How come we have to wait on benland to make the changes =S Its open source so can't we just make it and compile it? Or is he the only one allowed to do so? Or do we just not know how to do it or not know as much about smart?

Also your MinGW needs both the C and C++ compilers

How come we have to wait on benland to make the changes =S Its open source so can't we just make it and compile it? Or is he the only one allowed to do so? Or do we just not know how to do it or not know as much about smart?

@DGby I get this when compiling:

C:\Smart>make windows
"Compiling Main.cpp"
The syntax of the command is incorrect.
make: *** [build/windows/Main.o] Error 1

You can compile it yourself. I just don't have the time and (currently) knowledge to adjust SMART and make that work. Eventually, sure. But there are so many other things I have to do first it makes me want to scream. ;)
Theoretically anyone can do it. I don't think it's a top priority though, as I don't think it will make *such* a difference. Perhaps when walking, but that was never very CPU intensive.

Guys if yall think SMART fails this badly, why not make your own?

[QUOTE=Camaro';815119][COLOR=Red][U][I][B]Because most of the people can't make there own.

This.

It would perhaps be interesting to see if we can make SMART only copy on demand - that is only if Simba does a Find/Get Color/Bitmap call. That would limit the FPS SMART has to the absolute minimum required by Simba. Ben, I think this might actually turn out to be interesting.

This is what I would have implemented had Simba been around when I wrote SMART (since Simba is open source and all). This could, for most intents and purposes, make SMART run as if the FPS slider was as low as it could go, which is quite noticeable. The downside is that individual color search invocations will take slightly longer (don't remember how long a buffer update takes, but it's probably around 10ms, but SMART is already doing it nearly continually anyway).

Well, it probably wouldn't make THAT much of a difference. But it'd be fun to look into I suppose.

So by what I just said, this was clearly not meant to be a factual statement ;) Unfortunately to do it right there will be numerous changes required to core parts of Simba (unfortunately the part in question is a part I wrote, iirc, and I doubt anyone else has bothered to dissect it)…

The easy answer is that no one here is a good enough programmer (or in wizzup's and a few other's cases, lacking seriously in free time) to attempt to develop SMART. It gets a lot of hate because it's been around longer than most people here, and everyone has gotten used to it. If you all weren't spoiled with it already, and I released it, in it's current state, today, you would be shitting your pants at it's awesomeness. The harder answer is that I don't trust anyone to develop it because no one has the knowledge or skill to do so. Case in point: it's open source but no one hardly knows what it does or how it works.

ON ANOTHER NOTE
I recently (as in while typing this) had an idea as to why SMART seems to use significantly more processor/memory than other RuneScape creations. SMART is drawing on a memory buffer in order to preserve the color information even when minimized, memory buffers are lacking significantly in various graphics accelerations. Sadly, there is legitimately no way around this that doesn't involve client modifications (and no one here is skilled enough/has enough free time to maintain a client modifying incarnation)

wouldnt a modified client be hella more easier to detect than what we have now? cuz i did some client mods for other games particularly in shaders and textures when i made scripts for them in color. wasnt worth models.

Hmm I can do anything for the c++ part of smart… i understand all the code for that part.. but the java part kills me!! :c
I don't even know hello world in java LOL so I guess u got a good point..

Uhh we can't modify the client I guess.. I'm too scared to get detected :c

wait a minute….why are people complaining about the speed of simba/smart…is it because u cant run multi clients? u greedy basta…… sigh* well as far as i know thats what multi player login was for, and dont tell me even 1 simba + smart is ruining ur pc because my sht pc can run it just fine. yes im limited to what i can do on it (i can watch a movie or do stuff online - but i sure as hell cant play any game or it will lag me out) but hey wasnt this meant for safe and sturdy? unlike java - multi and banhammer

Not about being greedy, but rather competing with the Java bots.

Haven't been banned on any of my 30+ accounts I have been botting with on RSbot in the past 2 or so years.

Doesn't SMART use java ;p The big difference however is that we don't inject code.
