Building a computer

I want to build my first computer soon. I just have a few questions:

-Are all these parts compatible?

-How does this build look?(I'm on a tight budget)(Also keep in mind what I have been running for like 2 years now: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4847&review=acer+aspire+5735
has been running fine until recently)

-Is there a list or something of things to check to make sure everything is compatible with each other?

-Is there any thing you can recommend, either for the build it self, or when I actually build my computer?

Your build looks fine, all those parts will work together. Just a few suggestions though.
Consider buying this CPU that comes with a fan:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871

In my experience stock fans work just fine. Just be sure to turn on smart fan in the BIOS. This CPU is faster, and like a $1 less than your CPU+fan combo.

Also, spend the $2 extra and buy the G.SKILL RAM. Much better ratings, and better known company. IMHO.
link for memory.

Other than that your build looks fine. Just watch out for the shipping cost on your case, and remember that that gfx card won't do "hard core" gaming, but should handle the basics. Good luck building your computer, if you need any other help, just PM me, or post back on here.

Thanks a lot!

I have made your two changes.

I'm positive that the video card is better then what I use now, and what I use now has only failed me once. :)

Oh, and it says its 30$ to ship everything. Thats not too bad.

I'm not trying to be a douche but you're going to be much more happy if you save up to even 600 and then build. The components you'll get are muchhh better. Just a suggestion :)

Yeah, I understand. But have you seen what I have been using for like 2 and a half years? It has worked excellent until recently. I don't do much hardcore computer stuff.

I'm with noidea, you're basically rebuilding your laptop.. I really suggest saving a bit more and building a better desktop. Thats not *bad* but it could use some work. For one, I suggest upping the graphics card and the CPU perhaps.

Everything will work, but its worth it to up a bit.. Also, going with a case + PSU is generally a *bad* idea. I would suggest getting them separately and getting a Bronze certified PSU.

I'll get a case and PSU seperate now. Thanks.

I don't need an intense computer. It would be a waste of money if I got crazy components.

I mean, Im not tryna be a dick, but this is pretty much a waste. Even putting in 500 and you'll be getting wayyy better parts. That gpu is sooo old its almost not suggested for an htpc just playing hd. I also never suggest Athlons. You can get a phenom and its such a better cpu. Idk if they still have these, but you can get a 2 core phenom that unlocks to a 4 core depending on what was wrong with it initially. Just looked it up.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846

Basically it was a quad that had issues so they disabled 2 cores and it runs fine. Depending on those issues, it could be that it used too much power or generated too much heat with all 4 cores enabled, so they just disabled 2. Other issues include 1 core was faulty so they disabled 2. Things along those lines. Certain mobos can unlock, depends on the make and model. I would def look at this if its in your budget.

It's a bit over your budget perhaps but this guy has really found out the best bang for your buck parts!

I don't think he is really rebuilding his desktop? Has double the memory at a faster speed, more than double the CPU power, double the hard drive space, and way better graphics. Intel chipset sucks, I had one.

I have to disagree with you in terms of the CPU. If he uses the one I suggested which is a 3.0GHz quad core. As for the case + PSU combo, I have one my self, from Raidmax as a matter of fact, works just fine. I have done about six builds with the case + PSU combo from Raidmax, all work great. As long as you don't have like two graphics cards, a 500 watt PSU should be fine.

I would say no idea's suggestion is good, but the thing about the dual core CPUs that unlock to quad is that you have to have a motherboard that will do it, as No Idea said. Biostar bios tend to suck, and I don't see any mention of the a core unlocker there, so probably not the best idea.

@ No Idea, I'm also personally running a dual core Athlon 2.8GHz overclocked to 3.0GHz, any particular reason you don't like Athlons? I know Phenoms are better performers, but Athlons do what they say they will, and even O.C. a little bit. They have worked fine for me in all my experiences.

@Runaway, If you are suggesting a quad core that's $129, why not just bump it up to a six-core? :p Anyway, I would also say stick with ATI, Nvidia drivers suck and they cost more for the same performance.

Looks awesome, but costs like $68, not exactly meant for a budget computer.

Waiting for the parts :) Thanks for the help.

Bought a monitor for 100$ also. 20" 1600 x 900 for 90$

That has a fan, and the baby's first water cooling kit from corsair costs like twice as much for 10% better temps.

Not really needed.
