Does JaGEx even care anymore?

Failpailirl

Well, the other day i saw a screenshot of powerbot being and therfore causing no world reaching over 200 players (except for world 2) and i started thinking, does jagex even care anymore?

i mean,i would guess if you bot for 4-5 hours a day, powerbot is bound to fail a random at least once, how are more people not getting banned? why is it not a major infraction anymore? has the recent huge influx of botters made jagex just not care anymore and let people just bot because they are still raking in the profits?

discuss.

Nope. We are just too smart nowadays. We have analyzed their traps and know our ways around it. Mind you, the banning mechanisms are ALL Automatic, no interference from humans. But the system fails bigtime. The times we clicked on the same color, and walked the same path over and over is faaar behind us. We have build in enough randomness to avoid their crude banning algorhythms.

Thats why it looks like Jagex doesnt care, but in effect they are in very deep trouble. So deep, that they are even now turning to manual banning by moderators. Couldn't have illustrated it better.

I guess rewriting the banning mechanisms takes a lot longer then anticipated. Suits me fine :)

P.S: It is in effect our group, SRL, that has set this botting standard! (Good or bad?)

Going along with what you said, Failpailirl, I would agree that Jagex has less concern at this point. While they still stress to assure the legitimate players that they're constantly fighting against bots, this is them bluffing, trying to keep on the legit players' good side. It's always been about the profit for them, that's priority #1, and they're for sure getting that by the truck-load from bots, but if they didn't throw out some reassuring speeches and promises that they've "Got it under control" then they'd also lose a heft amount of legit players. While they still actually do lose quite a few, they're trying to save as many as possible purely for those extra few bucks.

In line with what Fakawi said, whatever they've thrown at us, we (SRL) has carefully examined any possible means of detection and have come an extremely long ways over the years to give our scripts humanistic traits and accuracy/endurance.

If Jagex really does realize the trouble they're in, do you really think they'd make that a public announcement, or rather string it out and see how long before the game crumbles. If you want an answer for that question then just look at what Jagex has been up to recently. Did you notice their newest game releases? Their books/clothes/gifts? If Runescape is in "great condition", then why the recent progressions to make money?

But then again, what do I know? I'm just a spectator throwing out my opinions. ;)

No hes saying that SRL has lasted through the ages because of the way we do things. We're not like other communities that strive to get the largest profit in the smallest amount of time. We have lasted because we have always implemented randomness and controlled botting.

I'm trying to say there is a new age in botting. Actually. it's no longer new. its about 3 years old. :p

Sure, we started before the JAVA bots. I was around back in kaitnieks days! it was wonderful!
Glory days are over. SRL has no affect what-so-ever on runescape. JAVA bot's have the market. utilizing injection and MUCH MORE ADVANCED reflection.

WT-Fakawi,

Jagex could implement a new watchdog system. They have the manpower and resources, but I am thinking that they aren't sure how to actually implement it. It wouldn't be too difficult, either.

Javabots have commercialized. That's also the reason they last: the money. It's also the reason they get abused: they money.
ARGA/Aryan/RSDemon all died pretty quick.

All I was saying in the Post Scriptum is that we have had a huge influence in the way botting is exercised today. Not saying we have a any impact on the rs-economy, and we have but a humble impact on rs as a whole, BUT, we where the first to properly level, properly randomise actions, respond, stayed cloaked and try to stay alive in rs. That, and the undeniable proof-of-concept, has helped me through the years. Ofcourse we have been overrun by all sorts of money-making bots, since that is what the market demands, but I firmly stand for what this community is about. Need a free bot and a nice community? Here is the place!

Yes I also do believe they have the human resources and the fnancial resources to implement something against botters, something holistic, but as I understand, the fact they use java as engine intrinsically makes them vulnerable.

Aryan died pretty quickly because it returned the UID of -1 if I recall correctly, so jagex just banned everyone who had that UID

Yeah Aryan would probably still be around if the devs didn't call it quits for the various reasons. Atleast in my opinion.

Aryan died because they effectively destroyed the possibility to run a deobfuscated client without being banned. The -1 UID resulted in mass bans but not Aryan's death.

Eh? Ref2 will be just as 'advanced' as the java bots around the place.

People who logged into runescape with aryan sent the UID of -1, slowly people stopped using it until no one used it and it died :(

I did an experiment to suicide bot one character 18+ hours per day at a location that would give the maximum xp for a skill to see what would happen.

I thought if anything would send up a red flag, that would do it.

And several days after getting level 99 I did manage to get a 14 day ban out of it, so I guess Jagex isn't completely out to lunch. It will be interesting to see if they reduce the stat or not. So far the account is still on the high scores.

I suicided crafting (very obviously) for ~70 hours straight, iirc. So I do not at all think there is virtually any automated banning, nor has there ever been. I still extremely believe that getting reported is how you get banned, nothing else. (Get reported -> get inspected -> banned or not, depending on what they find.)

You've got to be kidding…

Reflection is reflection. Yes we have an ugly front end, but its being worked on.
In essence, smart works exactly the same as a reflection based java bot - it just has an extra layer so it can interface with simba.

SMART is not reflection. kay?
SIMBA with SRL-Reflection will never be as advanced as RSBuddy/RSBot. PERIOD.
it will always use more memory, use more CPU and be less efficient.

I don't think it is anyone's goal to make srl-ref better then java bot's.

I know what smart is -.-
We are talking about smart being used to reflect the state of the client.
Just because something uses more memory/cpu doesn't mean it isn't advanced. It just means its different.

2011-06-17 00:26:34

Memory management is something I've been worried about quite often with Simba. It'd be something I'd love to work on, but I also don't wish to clutter Reflection (as I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough with it to work on it), so I'm not sure what to do as of late.

People are working to make things much more advanced than they already are, although I don't think it's necessary for autoing, it does look nice to the user.

I suicide botted 99 woodcutting with my PSWC on a few accounts. Still not banned on any of them as far as I am aware of. What skill did you train and where was it?

What…….? If you aren't going to contribute, then you have no right to complain about the include not working the way you want. Also, if you don't want people to go to Java bots, why are you campaigning for them? Lastly, you use just color, yet say "lots of people are stuck in the past"? You're a huge bag of contradictions.

Not to drag this offtopic more, but really, none of my bots have been banned in forever. Feels ok, man.

'Nice' … my ass! Maybe if you compared it to RSBot.

There are members around here that are acting like total e-thugs. When you ask a question or give a response those shows they were wrong they began to act like little pissy pricks. They act like they are know-it-alls, top of the tower of SHITHEADS. You really need to keep your members in check.

Oh the irony…

Now, the others were arguing java-based bots' reflection versus the reflection we use here at SRL. Far off topic from this thread, yes, (and it should be in another thread for another day) but atleast discussing the differences methods we use for botting. Seems to me like you're disregarding the subject at hand completely and striking out against a handful of community members. There's no need for this mate, either you get along with them or you don't. If you're throwing out names and giving them titles, then what makes you and different? People like that won't last long here, my friend. There is no need, at all, for this.

As much as this guy is clearly extremely naive, he has a point. There are a large number amongst us acting quite out of line lately, lots of unnecessary arguments. If I'm honest I'm found the tolerance of users to have increased largely lately, lots of members returning after bans without punishment, lots of cussing and hating.

Would people also please stop having a go at java bots? the bots themselves are generally very good, it's just the users give out a bad impression. Impatient people use those bots as they're the easiest to find. Stop assuming that we are in some way superior to them just because we boast a lower ban rate. I personally quite enjoy writing and using bots for RSBuddy.
