Got this email from Jagex last night:

Dear Player,

we have received multiple report actions towards your RuneScape account that has lead to it being placed in the "Danger Zone". This means your account is on the verge of being banned or muted depending on each report type. If you are unaware of the rules of RuneScape, please read the rules and conditions located on the RuneScape home page.

Use the link below to appeal against/view your account status:

Note: Due to a recent bug in our infraction system, some accounts may have received a void infraction. The majority of void infractions have been removed but we cannot ensure that all infractions have been removed. We urge you to visit the appeal section to appeal any unjustified infractions received due to system errors.

Many thanks, Jagex Ltd.

I went through and checked all of my accounts on their respective "Appeal Offense" pages, and they're all still in the safe/green zones (last known infraction on any of them was a mute on one from 2008, now lifted). Is this a glitch in the system, or do they send these out before posting an infraction to your account? If it's one of my army I could care less, but if it's the main I might care :p

The reason I'm wondering is because one of my accounts was stuck for ~6 hours last night while I was asleep. Woke up to a 6-hour proggy saying 10 loads of cballs had been made :duh: However, said account is still in the green/safe zone according to the site.

Sure would be nice if they'd include the account names in those emails.

I'm pretty positive this is a scam. Don't try to appeal through the link they gave you. I didn't think jagex sent out emails like this.

So it is, the link itself redirects to hxxp://secure.runescape.official-jagex.com/m=weblogin/loginform.ws?mod=offence-appeal&id=76150910454?76,1041 (DON'T FOLLOW - PHISHING LINK)
Good thing I checked through the site instead of the email :p

I'm more interested to know how they got the address line to come from noreply@jagex.com though, since that's the legit automated Jagex email address.

Anyways, I suppose the topic of this thread is now a warning against phishing emails like this one.

Phisher. Jagex don't email you. Could you PM me the link which was in the email? Or maybe you could just post it with big red letters saying it's probably a phishing link?

EDIT: Wow…4 posts in one minute.

The thing is though, they do send emails for account recovery ect, so that's what got me wondering.

Anyways, not a big deal.

They spoof the email. If you look at the headers of the email you'd see the real email address.

Whats funny is that I got these emails aswell.. where as for email accounts that aren't registered to runescape, dont get these emails.. My one and only email registered to runescape gets these emails.. Mod Mark made a post saying its fake but its pretty weird that they know exactly who plays runescape and then they send the emails to them.

Mine said I was reported.. It didn't say I was infracted.. and when I did check my account, it actually was not at the minimal green zone for mute.. it actually increased to about almost halfway of the green zone which was also weird :S

Well, whoever "they" were that sent it, they made Yahoo mail think it really was from Jagex. It's interesting to note though that they used the wrong font; Jagex's appeal emails have a more typewriter-looking font.

Spoofing recipients is easy, it's not checked.
Just one of a bazillion phishing emails I get a lot. Just ignore them
