Poll re-added, and will end July 30th, 2011.

Okay, so the staff as decided that the rotating banner we have at the top of the forums has gone on long enough. We've found that the majority of people find it annoying as it doesn't really give SRL an identity of it's own, but rather several (which isn't what we want). We've bounced around ideas of a banner/favicon and there was really nothing that stood out, so we'd love for you guys to use your imagination/awesome photoshop skills to create a new SRL banner and favicon that will identify us as an RS Cheating/Programming community.

Some ideas/guidelines you can follow:

• May include all or some; Simba/SRL/MSI/Reflection.
• Should obviously grab someone's attention, really stand out.
• Having an image of Simba (the lion) isn't bad, but it already represents something. We can't use the same logo/mascot for SRL.
• Maybe the logo will include "SRL" somehow, I don't know.
• It would be nice for the banner to flow in to the rest of the forum, and fit and maybe somehow blend into surrounding colors.

So use your imagination so we can finally identify ourselves and get rid of the rotating banners!

That's one of the reasons we don't really want Simba as SRL's icon.

I quite like the one with the green tractor.

The point of the roatating banner was for people to see which one we liked, and then vote on it. Which makes more sense to vote now, not make more…

The favicon could be changed to the green tractor.

And just make the green tractor the header

I feel like that's just another reason why not to use them. They've influenced this community (and made it entirely, really, in the sense that if Kait never did his thing, srl would've never existed), but they aren't who we are anymore. We've changed a lot, and something to reflect that would be nice.

Exactly what I said but more wordy! :p

Plus the tractor is already symbolic for SCAR… I think SRL needs something unique. Maybe we don't even need a picture of an object, a design with the rest of the site would be cool too (sort of like pb).

The tractor is a symbol for SCAR. For the same reason that we don't use a green Lion (lol) as favicon, I don't think a SCAR favicon would be suitable either. (Although we still have one currently)

Maybe the community should try to define something that represents Simba/SRL/MSI/Reflection, and people could make new headers & favicon. Then we could vote this time.


edit: oh wait…that's sort of what OP wanted..

If it was to represent Simba/SRL/MSI/Reflection (and maybe SCAR) you'd need to make a collage of a lion driving a tractor, chopping trees, mining, and cleaning mirrors.

I think I have an idea for a small symbolic favicon to represent SRL. Just as soon as my computer's back I'll load up the 'ol Paint/Photoshop and see what I come up with.

I read something recently that made me think about our community. I decided to post what I found and hope that someone might get inspired by it.

There is no open source project without code, but there is also not an open source project without a community.

Actually seeing as this is a style, we could make the same exact style for phpBB (I doubt we will)

personally i like the one with the little green tractor the best (not because of the affiliation with SCAR, but because it looks the best and the tractor motto would still apply, so i dont see the problem). I would also include all the ones in the current rotation except for the one with the yellow tractor. Why throw all the old ones out? Keep them in the running.

How about a picture of a sphinx? Close enough to a lion right?

I just think SRL needs a more modern and "acceptable" icon. Powerbot got this icon, and I think SRL needs something which is fairly recognizeable

This is what we were hoping for. We don't want a tractor because it represents SCAR.

Carlito, I do like the style of your banners, though. They look cool, we just need a favicon for SRL rather than the tracker.

I think it's good as it is since the banner will be used to represent SRL and not Simba.

This is an extremely rough draft using Frement's symbol. Obviously lacks scaling and smooth lines, but you get the idea:

If you were to do that, I think the colors should change. A gradient would be nice in my opinion. The circle colors going to their opposite angle possibly.

I like just the triangle honestly, I feel like having the letters inside kind of crowd the logo. Plus the triangle can be used on a much smaller scale as well as in a forum banner.

Yeah the gradient is noticeable in the bigger letters, but when they're scaled down like that it's hard to see.

Like you said, a gradient could be added to make it look better. Just a rough.

EDIT: @ Frement. I prefer the orange colours. It's more…SRL.

I prefer the simple triangle I first made.

Personally I like the blue one more.

I like the non-embossed gradient one without any letters inside. Much cleaner and favicon-able.

I like the latest one Frement made. ;3 Blue is sexy.

If we want to associate us with some logo, something unique then I don't think we should keep all the old ones. The point is get rid of all the different logo's.

Anyway, keep em coming and we'll make a poll eventually.

i meant keep the old ones in the running for being the new one. Most of the old ones aren't specifically scar truck, and most are good. The best one though is still the one with the green truck, which everyone seems against.

EDIT: even if the green one is removed of the truck and the new logo is stuck in with a different color scheme, I definately think that that banner is overall the best looking and the most professional

I agree. It best fits in with the current forum scheme and it can easily be edited to maybe fill the top of the forum rather than the first little part. I think replacing the truck with the SRL Favicon will look nice, for a banner at least.

I know there's already a vote going, but I've always thought the favicon should be a gear. It's a simple machine, and that's what botting is all about. Making things easier for ourselves.

I don't think this has been given enough time. Not even a month. I don't think it gives many people a chance to mock something up or even complete an idea. Not er'body has loads of free time.

i like Dervish's. i would totally like runaway's but those cogs obviously dont fit together, so the gear wouldnt work.

EDIT: actually now that i think about it, i wasnt being serious before, but even if its an abstract thing, conveying the message that the gears dont fit together well doesn't go towards a nice metaphor.

I still say take whatever logo we come up with and stick it on the current green tractor banner

That banner was just displaying the concept that I wanted. I'm going to make it more elegant when I have the time.

I like Runaways the best so far but i really like the idea of using Frement's triangle for a 'symbol' for SRL, so I'm a bit torn between the two.

Very nice display runaway. That would make a nice Banner.
