Well well well. Gotta hate corruption… Why don't they allow this to reach us consumers… -_-

Doesn't make sense.

Yup yup only makes things take more time when you are already short on time.

Back on topic, but man Hydrogen energy is the way to go.

Did you entirely read over what IceFire said?

I did but 3 guys got it to work, maybe its more shit we have not discovered yet.

Be prepared then you won't be short on time. Also that vid was posted in 06' so that stuff is 5 years old. Just wonder what they are up to today

That video was actually takin in the mid or early 1990's… I wonder too.

A couple years doesn't make hydrogen bonds any easier to break. Hydrogen is a convenient fuel, and there are some nice 'green' ways to produce it, but don't get your hopes up for a 'water' car.

People may think that using hydrogen doesn't affect the environment in the slightest. Lets look at it differently… To produce the hydrogen, they generally use electrolysis, the perform electrolysis, you need electricity. Where does most of the electricity come from in the world? Hydrocarbons, wood, coal, which all release a hell of a lot of CO2 :)

Electirc cars >>> Hydrogen cars

1) We already have electricity everywhere, no need to rebuild all gas stations
2) With current technology we will get development results faster by focusing in battery techniques than in making hydrogen easy, cheap and safe
3) If we (as in humankind) picked hydrogen as the way to go, we'd be sorry in 200 years when we have fusion energy and stuff that will basically give us unlimited waste-free energy that is much easier to handle than hydrogen

Problem with hydrogen: it's freakin crap to store and dangerous (Hindenburg anyone?)
Problem with electricity: no decent batteries yet.

So I guess we're doomed for now and CH4 out of cow shit is the way to go for now.

They've made milk cars too… Too bad milk prices went up.

Another problem with electric power cars is that that electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. They may not directly release CO2 and other gases, but they are instead released at the power station.

I can't see the video at school ATM but just reading what the title of this thread is I don't see how this can work. Water doesn't start a combustion.

Water cost more than gas FYI.

Go to your convenient store and look how much a 20 ounce bottle of water costs? your guess?
$1.80-$2.50 depending on what brand you get.

which means you would have to buy 6.4, 20 ounce water bottles just to make 1 gallon.

And don't say that you can get water from the ocean because Salt Water+Metal= Rust.

Still have to purify water wherever you get it.

You could fill it from your tap to be fair :3
Also, you could get car water. It doesn't need to have certain chemicals in it, which means it's less to produce, meaning cheaper overall!

except for the obvious facts, that you still need the electricity for Electrolysis. I guess we can always just get a better alternator

The rechargeable batteries they use to store the 'charge' are very horrible to the environment in the long term.

But if we are thinking short term… sure. Who cares about future generations anyway

Not to mention that solar electricity isn't very mature yet. Requires expensive materials, long returns on investments, takes up a fuck load of space.

I just read a news story about a solar farm that was LOSING MONEY even though they were selling electricity to the grid at a steep premium of 45 cents per kW hour. Average electricity prices are 10-15 cents per kW hour. Just the property taxes on the land for the solar farm were ~15 cents per kW hour, before any of the cost of actually producing the electricity.

I'm all for looking for alternative energy, but this ain't it.

That's not at all true. The cost of bottled water is in the packaging and distribution. You are really paying for plastic and a truck driver, not the water.

There are plenty of easy ways to purify water.

You're comparing prices for end-consumer products… it's much cheaper for those bottling companies/city water distributors to get the water.

If we took in enough sunlight to power human life, ecosystems would be fucked over so hard that we'd need a new new power source. Unless we can be 10x more efficient with the photoelectric reactions or take in more frequencies of light or do both, solar will never be an alternative for widespread sustainable power.
