Tell me about it.. I just got 99 str there but it was packed so I took out my rapier.. overloaded + turmoil and just one hit all the zombies and everyone hopped LOL! empty world here :) So now Im training attack..

It screwed up bots.. they all started running around and going to the end of the tunnel.

But yeah there are lots of bots now thats y jagex isnt doing roll backs anymore.. theyre doing 14 day and 21 day bans with the status of the account stating:

14 day ban – Minor Macroing Offense.
21 day ban – Major Macroing Offense.

Yeah it happened to me =( but only on a noob account that was suiciding p-essence

WT-Fakawi

Guess this is what happens when people start duplicating our "Auto Wisely" and "Blend In" concept. Tssss.

It is silly though. The problem is obviously that their automatic bot-detection mechanism is failing. This also explains why mods are now turnng to ban-on-the-spot.

By now, we all know how to circumvent their traps. And unless they come up with an entirely new kernel we are for the time being "safe".

But this regretfully also means the game is being exploited on a massive scale.

It would still be annoying with all the bots… a 99 wouldnt mean as much. why not just runescape get a good anti-botting system so we can be just a bit better.

I guess he means that if you have an idea thats pretty good for botting, keep it here - members plus. This helps from other people seeing your idea and then passing it on to other Java bot communities with massive rapers.

YoHoJo

Well it kind of makes sense that they are all waring the same thing. They all need anti-dragon fire shield, and the rest of it is probably the most affordable/best bonus causing armor for melee. That's like loling at WCers or Miners for all using the 'same' rune hatchet or rune pick.

But yeah totally out of hand it's crazy, maybe later I'll show you guys a video of Living Rock Caverns on world 84, now that shit is CRAZY.

Jagex is fully aware of the problem and they are not stupid, banning all of these accounts will not do much, since (almost) no time, effort, or risk is required to make theses accounts, for each one they ban the user will most likely just make another.

Jagex is going the smart thing and trying hard to take the creators of the bots to court to stop the source and end java botting once and for all. Once that ends 1) if they are successful there will be a lot less/no java bots or 2) If they fail, they will focus much much harder on just banning the individual accounts and getting better at doing it.

Yeah, they take our ideas and make their own bots.
Eg. I made that zombie killer, and the area was completely empty always.
Now its got 4-5 bots on every world. Either they had the same idea at the same time, or they saw mine and copied.

Absolutely right. It's like you're fighting an army of ants. You can kill thousands, but they'll just keep coming. But if you go for the hive itself, you'll stop any further progress, then it's just a matter of killing the remaining ants.

Lumby: rat bots, goblins bots, willow bots, yew bots, mining bots, cow bots,
Lumby-Varrock: chicken bots, wizard bots, cow bots, hide pickers, rat bots, willow bots.
Varrock, W & E: willow bots, smithing bots, auto merchers
Varrock - Falador: Barbarians: Fishing bots, cooking bots, crafting bots, mining bots, fighting bots.

Between Varrock and Falador ther isnt a living soul.

Falador: Fighting bots, zamorak bots, wc bots.

Fakawi, whatever happened to SRL's bot-catcher script? I remember that was based on the targets appearance which doesn't do us much good now, but don't ya think we could make it search for level 3's in bot hotspots?

Edit:
What about finding the lvl 3 in a hotspot, asking a simple question (such as "Are you human?"), try this 2 times, if no response then report accordingly.

These days its no longer lvl 3's botting if you haven't noticed. The first thing botters are doing is levelling up the bots to cb lvl 40-50 then botting, so really you cant distinguish between humans and bots other than asking them questing/obvious signs. :(

Meh instead of removing resources they can put back the old randoms but make them stronger..

To me the best times in RS was when there was the randoms that attacked you while fishing and doing skills.. The troll that was like lvl 159 pwned me.. Dont even ask.. the Chicken was worse!! Remember the shade aswell?? that was hard as hell..
Those randoms also made it easy to spot who was botting cuz most bots ran north or south.. If the randoms hit a lot harder.. a few of them would destroy bots.. They can put these randoms and make the player kill them.. if they aren't killed then the player gets another random.. until its killed.. Because those were the scar days and most bots just ran to a distance where it wont get attacked and then bam back to botting.. The killing would prevent that.. Even herbs are screwed now.. Remember herbs used to be unidentified and all high players would buy those in hopes to get a rare one? well that should be done still.. if you dont have the lvl, the herb stays unidentified..

These were the best days.. the andrew gower days.. not mod mark.. Andrew left when he saw how messed up rs was becoming. He made a smart move but its gotten worse since everything is all safe.. GE makes everything easy.. Rune was so much rarer without resource dungeons.. etc.

tom99, I'm pretty sure more bots would just be created :p Really they have 3 choices: Make it so botting gives no benefit, change the game such that people don't want to or can't bot (eg. actually making interesting and non-repetitive activities for levelling up/earning money) or making it so that bots don't impact legit players (eg. fishing).
Trying to detect and ban bots is pretty much a lost cause, as they will spend time and money doing it while botters have to invest practically none, and can easily start over even if they do get banned. I'm guessing that Jagex realised this and this is why they aren't really bothering to ban a lot of people.

I'm not sure that is actually the case, what with software licenses these days. Especially if they inject things into the client, that certainly violates Jagex's Terms and Conditions (as you are accessing the game with a modified client), not sure about laws though.

The majority of bot users aren't in it for fun, only communities like this one do it for the challenge. :norris:

SRL will always have incentive to keep going not just because we want to have something done automatically for us, but we like doing the work and having that constant challenge to improve.

The case of Galoob v. Nintendo (1992) established that it is the customer's right to modify hardware, at least within U.S. law; I have no idea about software law, however I would assume that if hardware is owned by the customer then one could argue that software is as well. Since the RS client does store some files locally, you could say that you 'own' them.

The other side of the argument (and one that would create that fuzzy grey area) is that one could say that buying a RS membership is a service and not a product; you are being granted further access to something still owned and kept by Jagex.

You never own someone's software.. Software is leased to a user, never given. Thus the reason Geohot was sued by Sony for the PS3 Jailbreak.. Also the reason that if Game Companies think you are using their game illegally (in a bad way or wrong in their eyes) they can sue you without you even having a case. Most license agreements state this.. and state that software is distributed, must not be distributed or tampered with in any way shape or form..

Its leased to a user, not given so you never own software but hardware you do.

And you don't own RuneScape, so modifying it and redistributing it or past versions of it is illegal, afaik. RSPSs are illegal last time I checked, because they redistribute Jagex's software without their consent. And some modify it, which is also something you're not supposed to do (afaik).

But I'm probably not right.

The cache is illegal, the servers are built from the ground up and even the clients are to this point. And last time I checked (atleast a year ago) the cache files can be built from scratch, so in time there will be nothing illegal about servers, but also at that point they'll be stand-alone games on their own, just using the same genre as Runescape.

tom99, I'm pretty sure more bots would just be created :p Really they have 3 choices: Make it so botting gives no benefit, change the game such that people don't want to or can't bot (eg. actually making interesting and non-repetitive activities for levelling up/earning money) or making it so that bots don't impact legit players (eg. fishing).
Trying to detect and ban bots is pretty much a lost cause, as they will spend time and money doing it while botters have to invest practically none, and can easily start over even if they do get banned. I'm guessing that Jagex realised this and this is why they aren't really bothering to ban a lot of people.

Or… they could do like Eve Online and compete with the bots, atleast for the Real Market Trading aspect. Eve has a system in place where one player buys a "time card" and can sell it to another player in-game for whatever the going price is (650mil isk usually). So $15 for a months worth of play becomes worth 650mil, and you can put a real price on in-game money. This means that players who play a lot can play for free, and others, can get in-game currency for real money, all the while the parent company, CCP, still makes the same amount on subscriptions.

Does this increase botting? yes and no, while more ppl are trying to make enough gold to keep their membership free, the "botting to RMT the gold" accounts have a competitor - legitimate players who actually set the price of in-game gold to the dollar.

This is also good for Joe Blow, who:
1. Bots cause he needs money.
2. Has a real life and can't waste it trying to get to 99s so he can do GWD and get real drops and real gold.
3. Is honestly a good guy but because of #2 is limited in this f-ing #(*&@##$@ GRIND HEAVY, play-it-like-a-day-job game.

Cause now Joe Blow doesn't have to bot anymore to pay for his expensive tastes.
But alas, this also tempts ppl to bot more, as more gold = free membership.

Second thing Eve does that gets rid of the need of bots, that you would NEVER SEE IN STUPID RUNESCAPE. They got rid of active training, you never gain a level by clicking anywhere, grinding mindlessly and loosing IQ while staring at a computer screen. You choose the skills you want to train, put them in order, and they train with time, all by themselves.

This means of course, skilling is more planning the roles you want to do, not "how soon do you want to be UBER?!?" Also, with this style of lvling, you will never see a bot running around skill grinding.

The last thing they did that was genius, is turned all the places with good lootz and resources into pvp areas. So if your bot ain't friends with the players that rule the area, they gonna mess you up something good. Which in turn means the bots you find in the pvp areas, are owned by the rulers of that area, makes it easier to cut off the head of the bot-dragon.

Whelp, I know none of that will ever fit into RS, but it's something to think about.

Actually there a helluva lot of ways jagex could stop rwt and botters, but they either choose not to, or they can't be bothered to, so us coming up with ideas isn't the solution, unless it involved ddosing the servers and sending mails to jagex telling em to stop bots.

Its gonna wake jagex up to the massive bot problem currently under their asses. :p. Yes, I know ddos is illegal, but i don't see how someone is supposed to wake jagex up from their impending doom - too many bots. "EVE"

While the botting in EVE is nowhere near as noticable as in RS due to the raw scale of the universe I can assure you it is there in full force. If you head to any of the icebelts nearby major trade systems or the better mission hub stations you will see large concentrations of bots. And don't pretend for one minute that the dangers of nullsec stop people botting there, I'd go as far as to say its safer to bot in nullsec then it is to play at your keyboard (I know I've been doing it for 3 years).

I do agree though that the plex system is wonderfull and eliminates a huge amount of player -> player rmt while benefiting both players and not hurting the economy at all. As a result a lot of the botting you see in eve is for personal gain although some of it may trickle into rmt through system rental taxes etc.

edit:
Because some of you may be interested here is the presentation CCP gave this year on how they are going to start cracking down on bots, it's mostly a load of hurf blurf and them not telling you anything so don't blame me if its a waste of your hour:

Remove the GE.

Should solve the problem pretty quick.

Then everything would just move to World 2 Falador, and the marketplace forums would serve people other than merchants.
I remember trying to manually merchant one day, only to quit because there were 10 level 3s sitting right beside me using some type of auto mercher…(Not an autotyper, an actual mercher)

Tlachtli

2011-06-08 16:36:59

I remember the good ol' days of manually merching with 2 accounts, the merch and the dummy.

You find someone selling X for 500k. Dummy stands next to him (always with trading turned off) and says he's selling X for 480k. Seller then either leaves or drops his price to compete. Merch then buys from seller at the reduced price.

Could also be done on the selling end. Find someone buying X for 500k. Dummy stands next to him and says he's buying X for 520k. Buyer either raises his offer or leaves. Merch then sells to buyer at the raised offer price. Net gain from both buying and selling, 40k.

Man, those were the days. Could make easy money with just an hour or two of that.

Hi bobfrommarketing, you still in goons?

First, I wouldn't dare say that 0.0 makes it more dangerous to bot. Any bot with "half-a-brain" just safes up and cloaks once you enter system. But just look at any dotlan map, and you will find the botting hubs. If CCP had sense, they would go to those congested areas and start banning accounts. IMO Jagex could kind of do the same, but neither company shows much sign of intelligent life.

Yeah the plex system just balances out the RMT Russian bot to player bot ratio, which could possibly help RS as well.

But I am no means an expert on this, half the crap you guys talk about on kugu (err rather ********.com) goes over my head.

It's in my post before, I don't feel like repeating myself.

1. 0.0 is eve's wildy basically, but "clans" can own/rents parts of it. Bots run freely out there, but can be killed by players.

2. Plex is in the previous post, you pay someone in-game money for a game time card, that they bought with real money.

3. kugutsumen.com, that is all.

It's actually more deflation than inflation. Rares cost more cause no one can generate them, but everything else goes down. Abby whips are almost under a mil now, laws are half what they used to be.

Still, it's very sad to see this, everything is getting cheaper while people are getting richer. They really have to stop Java Bots, they can't lay around on their butts doing nothing. There a company, and if they expect there game to be what they want it to be, they have to do some fixing.

That won't fix it, you don't need a coin sink. Taking gp out of the economy won't cause prices to go up, they wll go down because there is less "gold" to go around, and less to spend per item. They need to take resources out of the economy, but all Jagex keeps doing is making it easier to farm them

Some examples I can think of:

1. Soft clay and vials, made a right click to soften and fill vials all at once. (soft clay used to be 200 gp, now 89 at most)

2. Teletabs, made a right-click to make all in your inv at once. (Tele to house was between 1000-1200 gp, now it's 550 on a good day)

3. Putting bank deposits everywhere made it so things like ores and logs flooded the economy as more places opened up to farm them from. (Laws went from 300-400 down to 200-220)

4. Opening up free trade made it so many things dropped in price, like law runes, since the whole "fast free laws" could function again.

5. Gravestones. No one loses multi-million dollar equipment anymore, there is no risk involved in using them. Since these items don't get recycled back into the game's "ether", the price goes down as bosses are farmed for drops.

Shall I go on?

Edit: honestly I don't mind the price drops, everything but rares drop pretty equally… kinda. I honestly think flooding the economy with resources and money is Jagex's way of catching up the newbies to the oldbie's gamestyle. i.e. "ohhh I want the pretty staff of light, but it's 6 mil." "Well now you can get one son, cause we've dropped the price to 1.2 mil! Just mine rune essence for a couple days!."

Please, please no. I would like to get to 99 in some skill some day, but I have a life. Botting is the only sane way I will try that won't take me 10 years…

On that note, I wonder how much time it would take a guy to get the completionist cape. Is it even viable for anyone with a healthy lifestyle?

It depends on what you call a healthy lifestyle. RL friends? Family? Some maxed players have youtube channels showing their daily routines, Wakeup, exercise, runescape, eat, runescape, eat, runescape, eat, runescape, sleep.

Wakeup, Check my bot, Go on SRL, Go outside to play basketball for a few hours, Check my bot, Go on SRL, Go back outside later on to play more basketball, Check my bot, Go on SRL, Sleep. :D, I love my routine. And the best part about it is I balance everything out. Anyways, I think Jagex is thinking, were helping obese people. If they bot, they have more time for exercising, but that is wrong, when they're botting, they're either making a bot, or eating. (This is for RsBot people, if your from SRL it doesn't count cause your cool. This is aimed to make RsBot people feel bad ;P).

"Thanks" to RSBuddy, botting is easier than before. Players don't have to move any files anywhere and the installation of scripts is just 2 clicks. Almost every person nowadays bots with RSBuddy. You won't find a f2p world without 10 bots mining ores.

Runescape IS going DOWN. In order for there to be a fix, Jagex must change the concept of the game. On the other hand, maybe Jagex is still getting the same amount of profit as it used to if not more?

Smarter Child

2011-09-08 19:33:22

Jagex is at fault, after all it is their game. They should do a mass ban, fix their banning system(would be amazing if java bots were killed off :D), remove the wilderness/free trade etc. They simply aren't doing enough to maintain their game. It is sad really, nobody plays legit any more. Runescape isn't 'FUN'(at least for me) like it used to be, and I do rather miss the days when it was. :crying:

The only other game I've played is some smal, 2D game called QueVille. It's really nothing fancy, but what drew attraction to me is the multiple skills (like Runescape) and high scores.
