Possible change for LoginPlayer

hey all . as some of you may know im one of a posible many users of SRL / Simba that uses a good old Mobile Broadband Stick.

WHY THE FUCK i hear you all say.. but i live somware that is hard to get a landline fitted . although i will soon be getting one

now the prblem is as we all know mobile networks are laggy.. especialy here in the uk. and when playying runescpe i sometime have to search for a world that isnt like Ping: 234
now i have noticed that LoginPlayer dosent Care For Ping Ratio's..
it will quite consistantly login to lets say world 134 with a ping of 234 and not
lets say world 233 with a ping of 98 or 100.

now i cant be the only one that has lets say a not up to scratch internet connection so my request is:

Could We PLEASE make LoginPlayer take account of pings. ( an var like LowPING := True; would be good )
so that our brilliant Scripts can also work for people whith bad Connections

i know we can just log out and choose a lower ping world but it makes sense to have it included . Doesn't it ?

thinking about it i may be the world switcher not LoginPlayer that needs this addition?

Ping doesn't really matter on a non-FPS game. 100 vs 400, it'll all be about the same in a MMORPG.

Though it would be a decent addon (should be off by default however), but for now I suggest simply disabling the switcher and choosing what world you want.

hmm you say it dosent matter in mmorpgs witch i will say i agree altho it does seem to matter in rs for me a least lol

I've done quite a few experiments with the pings, and I've yet to personally see a real difference. I'm on the other side of the world from the U.S. and I still have the smoothest game play using their servers as opposed to local or neighboring servers. I'm guessing this is because of the quality of the server rather than your distance to it. But… that's just my theory.

well the thing about mobile networks is they use n array of switches on top of the existing network
this allows them to have a finer control over routing and and ACL's .

The problem with this is that frankly most mobile networks routing sytems are shit
and cause very high latency problems.
i have seen pings in the range of 1132ms between computers on the same network and different networks
where i have had a direct rout between the two . but the mobile networks routing kicks in and re-routes the packets along their datalines sometimes passing through anyware up to 30 or 40 servers in the mobile network
before actualy reaching the internet so if you are seeing a ping on the world list of 442
its probably more like 1442 due to the latency increase cause by their methods of routing

Yeah I think that high latency comes along with any kind of wireless internet, namely satellite and, like you said, mobile networks. Before I left the states, where I lived we had just switched from dialup internet to satellite, and they gave a warning about streaming games having 'lag' issues because of that. But because this was literally 'right' before I left the country I didn't really have a chance to prove that it had any effect with Runescape.

So you're probably right about the lag, but it's your internet causing it if I had to guess. So maybe it's a good idea the login player is changed, but maybe have "ping-searching" optional, as I'm sure not everyone will really require that.

yeh i was thinking of a global var or const ie

LowPing := False; // Usefull for Laggy connections Set True To Choose A World With lowest Ping

False by default and just set to true when using ping.

often times the lowest ping is a full world.

so just grabbing the lowest ping is not always the best.

@footballjds :
True but as far as i know SRL wont allow itself to use a full world tho
< please correct me if i am wrong : Never Chooses a Full World For ME at least >

still don't want a world with 1999 players :p

I'd suggest you just making your own world switcher for your use.

and don't pick the lowest ping, pick a ping under 100 that is f2p and has under 1200 users.(or similar stats, you get the point)

don't limit to the lowest ping though.

still think it should be part of the SRL World Switcher just because of ease of use . ( instantly available to all scripts with minimal editing )
i do agree with not choosing lowest ping and instead having a max ping defined
and then effectivly just blacklisting the servers whith pings to high .

for runescape 0.1 seconds vs 0.4 seconds of delay isn't going to hurt anyone I don't think.. highest ping I have on any server is like 100 though which really isn't anything at all

I tend to agree with grats, sm0k3.
I don't ever get pings over 100(unless im on slow internet).
So really its not a necessary ad on to SRL, I'd rather not stuff up srl anymore with something that will barely be used. However, if you have slow internet then you can implement it yourself for your personal use. :D

my highest was 289 that was yesterday world 40

its no big problem for me . i just change worlds.

and you are right at teh end of the day its to much hassle to go changing an include for this .

although i do still believ it would be a usefull addition but yes as most people will not need it
its probably not worth it :)
