Reporting Other Botters [WTF?]

Why does this forum support reporting other botters?

Specifically:
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63550
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64056

And since i luff yewws (if it was actually you who de-repped me) feels strongly about this and reporting fellows botters, then I would like to hear your opinion also.

Reporting the very people within your own community when using your scripts, wow.

I assume/expect everyone here to test their scripts/the scripts they use thoroughly and make sure they have good failsafes etc before leaving them unattended.

I highly doubt many/any of the fail-botters we catch are actually SRL ones.

And yeah, all botters are bottes weather or not they are using SRL, sure.
But SRL is all about responsible and stealth autoing, blending in etc, not screwing up the RS world.

I still do understand your argument though/why you feel that way.
Also, I've added you on MSN, please add me!

The fact is: We cannot tell what bot anyone is using at any given time (unless there's something very distinct about a certain script: which would make it a bad bot anyways) and even if we could, why would we report other botters?

For general topic info:

If people "deserve" to get banned as some people say, then let them from Fagex. Ratting each other out is just selfish because they may "suicide" and make more than gp's than you or increment their names.

I get the feeling this forum hates "java bots" because they are so popular and do many more activities (much better also).

If I can tell that they are botting then I report them, simple as that. If anything, it should encourage people to write and use better scripts.

If I can tell they're botting, they deserve to be reported. I'm all about blending with real characters. The obvious botters make bad rep for botters in general. Bad rep for botters => pressure from players for Jagex to ban => more of a chance my own bots will be banned.

YoHoJo

2011-04-28 20:22:53

Like I (kind of) said in my post I could care less what kind of bot it is.

If you are botting, and you are being obvious at it, you are careless and deserve the ban is how I think.

I love SRL and I've also recently fallen in love with java bots as well. What I hate to see is failbotters!

If you care enough about your account, then you will have the decency to shit down for a few hours and just monitor a script to make sure it runs properly. If you don't care about your account you press play and hope for the best and fap and get reported. :]

It's really really really obvious by now that jagex really isn't do jack squat against botters. It's rumored though if you report they have a higher chance of getting banned.
Jagex just seem to be going after the actual bots/people who made them in court rather than just banning player which will do nothing anyways because they will just make more accounts.

(BTW Nice computer/Specs (overkill though IMO :p) and SWEET botting setup!! Saw some posts/pics on other forums you made!)

You can walk around Runescape find botters everywhere.. Maybe even 50% + of the people in the world are botting.. You can go to Soul Wars, Common fighting spots.. Half the scripts on these forums you can tell are botters.

Why report?
Also What happens if someone got there script stuck and was testing it.. You reported someone who was testing there script.

Even if the bot wasn't a Java Bot what happens if it was a SRL?

Also you find a bot stuck in a Random could be SRL Random solver.

If you are testing a script, you monitor it and watch it so you know what to fix. I report guys that have been messing up/messed up for many minutes and don't respond to any of my talking.

I/We already stated we don't care what kind of bot it is, that's not the problem. We are that obvious botter is obvious and obviously doesn't care for/respect the game/their account.

Also you find a bot stuck in a Random could be SRL Random solver.

I think SRL has failsafe to log out after X time of being suck in randoms.

In the end it's all down to opinion etc. no one is going to be able to convince anyone the other way around. All we can do is state our opinions and explain why. Some people do it, some people don't, and some people don't understand why some people do what they do.

Not everyone remembers this, but back in the day, jagex was aware of botters and did less than they have in the past few years. Then came the obvious botters (level 3, default clothes, crap names, etc), that raped rs and didn't blend. Then the legits complained to jagex (taking up training spots etc), which led to them increase their efforts against all botters. So obvious botters are bad for all botters.

Having said that, if this sort of forced darwinism were to cause the obvious botting to decline substantially, it's doubtful that jagex would go back to being as lenient as they were (but they probably wouldn't get worse). So it is unclear how effective reporting obvious botting is, but that's where part of the reasoning is coming from.

Note that I assume we are just talking about level 3 default clothes etc here, which shouldn't lead to friendly fire. If we're talking about a script messing up a little, but the botter is trying to blend, then yes reporting would be bad.

How are community members who possibly report other community members, authors, etc in-game constructive for our community as a whole.

Knowing that the very people who use my scripts would stoop so low as to possibly report me in-game is disheartening.

Who cares if some people want to take advantage and bot level 3's naked in F2P or anywhere else for that matter? If they're so easy to spot, then let Fagex ban them. Reporting them yourself is selfish and shows that you are jealous of them making tons of money on throw-away accounts (and stop them from stealing "your spots").

Whats different between being naked and botting in the standard welfare gear (drag med helm, glory, granite body, obsidian cape, toktz, dragon legs/skirt, d-boots, and whip). Everyone knows they're bots and its too easy to spot them.

Alright, well I have 2 level 3 woodcutters botting magic trees (seers), making 150k gp/hr each, come report me.

Until then, I will still be botting for the unseeable future. My maxed melee char has over 100M XP spread over Attack, Defence, Strength, and HP, and have been botting for at least 3 months straight.

So who wouldn't keep botting and take advantage of the no banning?

If you bot you should be prepared to be reported - its as simple as that.

First of all, Jagex doesn't do anything to ban people unless they get reported (there are some exceptions, but if you disagree, I've botted for over 100 hours straight using clickmouse and I'm still not banned, with no breaks or antiban or anything). They ban accounts after they're reported and they check the account (and even then, they sometimes don't ban the account).

It does take reporting to ban bots. And, as has been said, we have a respect for Jagex. We're not a botting community like we are a learning community. I don't know how many times that has to be said, but it's true.

People's first script blows. A few people said they report obvious bots, so newer people creating scripts are more likely to get reported by their own community. Doesn't exactly foster learning.

It has been shown that the wider the variety of actions a bot does, the less chance it has of being banned.
Historically, all the accounts I've used to report botters on have lasted longer without a ban.

I was playing on one of my bot accounts the other day and thought I'd drop in on the LSM to get some mith. There were like 7 java bots there swarming all the rocks, all following the same patterns, etc. Even though I had a very high mining level and could get ores here and there, I finally gave up and walked all the way to Dwarf Resource Mine. There were another 5 java bots there swarming all the coal.

These sort of botters ruin the game for everyone, including us. I just want to peacefully coexist with legits. These people just want to rape and pillage. They don't care how many other bots are running at the same place on the same world, they probably don't even bother to check, just hit Run and walk away. I don't respect that. Why should I, they don't respect anyone else, or each other.

The way I see it, bots getting banned is like a necessary system. Everyday bots are both banned and created. To continue a somewhat balanced system, players have to be reported and banned or spots would be overcrowded (more than they are now) and inflation would take place in the economy. Have you seen the prices of raw goods lately? Since free trade, botting has risen exponentially and people don't like to wait for their stuff to sell.

It's getting to the point where there is no longer a balance.

I don't understand what you are talking about. Any bot you use can be spotted by any person watching. No bot uses a auto responder. This means that every bot owner is whatever this means "We are that obvious botter is obvious and obviously doesn't care for/respect the game/their account.".

Also if you watch a bot mess up for a few minutes you report it? It could of been real bad luck, no?

Thats like saying euthenizing old and/or mentally disabled people is acceptable because it improves humans as a race and saves resources for the best.

It might look good in a vacuum, but it's horribly wrong.

——————————————-

I don't even know why this topic has to be made and even worse, why the poll results are like that.

It makes me question why I'm here a little bit if everyone supports stuff like this.

The ironic thing is that everyone that votes yes would report every other person that voted yes.

I've never seen a bot that was human enough to where you couldn't tell after watching it for like 1 minute.

Smartzkid

When one of my players is banned, I tweak the script I've been using and switch up my techniques and schedules. I don't go out of my way to report bots, however as a botter, I understand that some of my players will be reported, and some of those players will be banned. It's not about being perfectly human, it's about being smarter than the other botters. Botting in different locations, not being a nuisance, etc. For me, it's not about the money or the levels, it's about being the best. I couldn't care less if all of the other people on that list reported me. I would write a better script because of it.

That's not actually true. Some of us here at SRL have actually had past experiences with getting accounts banned from macroing and hopefully we learn from our mistakes. I for one have an army of 16+ bots all with a combat level of at least 75, have proper names and wear proper clothes/armour. I only use SRL scripts that I know work well. I challenge you to look at my bots and distinguish them from legit players, that is all SRL is about.

LOL @ We're not a botting community. Must have been quite the night.

There doesn't really need to be an argument against reporting other botters. If you have any ethics at all, it's pretty cut and dry that you don't do that.

It's like buying weed from a dealer or smoking with your friends, then calling the cops on them. There really hasn't been a good reason to report other bots.

If you were going to compare SRL to other communities such as RSCheata or w.e they are called these days then you'd see that we are a much more friendly and "willing to help" community than them, this allows newcomers to quickly "feel at home" and encouraged to learn to script. I honestly don't see were all these false generalizations are coming from. You've been at these forums for a while, you're a SRL member, you should know the what the community is generally like. Most of the oldies here are young people who came to this forum a long time ago to learn how to cheat in the game Runescape so they could be rich blablabla. After several years and especially due to the free trade changes in the game most of these people left and recently some came back. However, these people are not really interested in the game anymore. They make scripts for the fun of it or simply to obtain more programming knowledge. There are also some people who stick around simply because they like the atmosphere and the people here. Then there's the newcomers that I explained before.

Most of us don't really give a crap about the gp or selling money.. we just bot for the fun of it so why should we see java bots as a threat?

If you happen to cross villavu's homepage sometimes and scroll down you may just find this there:

"Mission Statement:
To blend in among fellow players, cloaked and in disguise; without anybody noticing or rejecting our presence. We fulfill an intellectual challenge; a fun game of cat and mouse. We are the hunted for over four years."

I report bots that are too obvious. It is ridiculous to see these swarms of bots filling up spots and just destroying everything. Also, most of the time it is not SRL bots, because even my first SRL script wasn't that obvious. You should at least respect Jagex and their game, it is enjoyable for many to make complex and safe scripts[Without them we wouldn't be able to bot ;)]. Plus, sometimes when there are swarms of RsBot's they clog up the area, and my more SAFE SRL bot will get less because of the unnecessary crowds. I hope that clears it up.

If you get banned you're more likely to correct the mistakes. This community used to be entirely about learning how to outsmart the game and blending in. If I can tell that you are using a script I report because I think people are capable of better work.

Then you sir haven't seen very many bots.

indeed. My favorite bot spot to mess with them is Waterbirth Island. Go check out the Bots there if you want to see obvious.

I still can tell a lot of java bots and they are on average like 10x more effective than SRL ones (in terms of antiban, efficiency, etc).

There antiban is a lot worse. Good anti-ban on a powerbot script is something like, a random mouse movement. Here, it would be checking a quest or something.

They are quicker, I must say. There's a Guild Ranger here that gets 30k an hour (exp), but on the PowerBot one, you can get 40k+ easily, I think i've gotten 55k per hour when I tried it out.

Might want to use the right 'their', but wih regards to java bots, I don't even think about powerbot lol. I'm talking about quality paid scripts.

I'd like to see anything SRL touch perf fighter/slayer, but anyways.

Challenge accepted.

Which is exactly what I love about this community. It's not about making money like those programmers do, it's about learning and advancing. I don't know how many times I'll have to say that to get the point across, but oh well.

Regardless, there are quite a lot of things we can do to do far better than any paid script you can show me. It's just that we tend to have higher priorities. I'll be working on something with Dgby that could trickle down to Simba/SRL which would make it far superior to (hopefully) anything you've seen in the botting world. Quite the claim, but I've no problem with getting my words handed to me.

It's not RS-specific whatsoever, but, there are ideas I've had which I haven't known how to accomplish, which I may know how after this.

I'm on my way to the beach right now, but I can message you in a few hours (taking my niece to a doctor's appointment first).
