New Rocks Implemented -.-

I'm sure many of you have seen the new ugly rocks which have been around Lumbridge Swamp mine for a while now?

Well, they are now in the Dwarven Research Dungeon and Dwarven Mine too…

Also, the "Prospect" option is gone, the 'Eamine' option now tells you either 'This rock contains X ore' or 'There is currently no ore available in this rock'.

Overall I'm indifferent about them, except them even when playing legit I can NEVER tell weather or not coal rocks have ore in then… making botters pretty much always beat out the legit players on coal, but who plays legit right?!

Rocks/How Many Are Visible
Clay(2) Tin(1) Iron(2):

Mithril(2) Iron (2):

Silver(3) Mithril(2):

Coal, Green=Ore Red=No Ore
Doesn't seem too hard to tell, but trust me it is at times and actually takes concentration…

Coal before/after mined:

If you see these new rocks anywhere, please post below telling what location you saw them at. I think they have been implemented everywhere now?

I'm going to assume it's everywhere. Rimmington mine and VE mine has them also.

Wait, new new rocks? Wtf, that really blows.

Jagex update says they did them everywhere.

Remember the good old days when the whole rock was just either completely coloured or gray.
Sigh…

They have been around Lumbrdige Swamp Mine/Noob Lumbridge copper/tin mine for a few months I believe, but just today they are introduced everywhere.

I mean whatever, just a new look, everyone should just have to update their coloring and that's about it, if anything it just hurts legit players I think.

They'll probably implement those crazy new trees all around RS sometime soon as well then I guess :P

I'm updating MSI's colors right now. Copper and Tin still worked. Silver, Gold, and Iron needed slight adjustments. That's all I've gotten to right now.

And I like the trees, a lot actually. I think they look much better. The rocks, however, don't look as nice. :p

The trees are nice as they're big like real trees, it's just a bit harder to see the difference between oak and normal trees (It's not something that concerns me though, as I don't chop normal nor oak trees).

Yeah we've talked about this in another thread. I think it's more of a hit to color, and also a an alternate reflection-detection. If you're 'instantly' able to tell when a rock (refills?), chances are you're going to be monitored more heavily.

http://services.runescape.com/m=news/holly-and-hawthorn-easter-2011 - theres a tiny footnote at the bottom:
The graphical update to mining rocks we first released with the Lumbridge Swamp improvement has now been applied across the rest of RuneScape.

This really sucks.

From what I've tested, most rocks work just fine with color. It's coal that's difficult. Every other one I've tried works just as it did before the update.

I think Jagex made tree-finding easier for us with that graphical update :p All you have to do now is simply find the ugly black base of the tree, move your mouse to its location, then check the uptext.

Where are you talking about when you say coal rocks are difficult? I just checked over the coal rocks in Ardounge and they're still pretty obvious.

I'm making a custom function to search for objects using DTMs rather than just an array of color. I have a couple other ideas as far as DTM object-locating goes and I'll probably need some advice, I figured you of all people would be the most helpful twords answering them, as I remember you commenting on MSI's rock-detection by storing colors. I have basically the same idea in mind, but for DTMs.

oh yea I saw them in game, they're amazingly ugly!

coal does look hard for color.. the others have a bit of their own color though

Do all trees have this base? If so, there wouldn't be a way to distinguish between tree types other than uptext.

That's good to know. I haven't look at any rocks other than the ones in lumbridge west swamp. By the sounds of things, other locations aren't that bad. I'm also on "SRL graphics", so that may be a little different, I'm not sure.

Yeah, I'll help any way I can. :)

Is there a simple bit of code already out there that finds the DTM nearest to the center of MS?

Thanks in advance.

I don't quite know how to go about this.

Omg they are so ugly! :X Don't fit to the environment at all!

Well I don't really have any experience when it comes to using DTMs on the main screen, but I think your best bet would be to start by making DDTMs and using a method like FindDTMsRotating, then soring the TPA from the main screen center point. Basically the same thing as TPAs except you're using a DTM method rather than FindColors.

Check out the code of FindColorsSpiral (or something xD)

FindDTMs / FindDTMsRotatedSE / Alternating
Returns TPA of all the DTMs found. Then you can sort TPA from there.

Search for surrounding rock color……..
Search for ore color
Search for lack of ore color (in the case of coal?)

If I'm not mistaken MSI already has BadColors implemented, just not too sure about how well it deals with multiple good colors…

This is basically what I'm using the DTM locating for. Assuming the closest DTM to your center screen is the rock you're mining on, as long as it exists then the ore exist. (Theoretically)

Yeah but ive seen other objects around the trees with the black rim around their base too.
