Download whatever! It's not like anything goes wrong with Android phones when you download apps.

The "best" usually have some sort of virus within them. I personally don't think android is the best for the average user. Kinda like how I don't think Linux is the best for the average user (currently). You have to know what you're doing with the tools you get, and the ads on tv don't tell people that, which leads to a lot of problems and turns out horrendously and people start to say it's a bad mobile OS.

haters gonna hate.

Like Camaro said, it really depends what you're looking for.

For music, I like doubletwist. Also, I don't know what I'd do without WidgetLocker.

DoubleTwist is great for music. :)

I also *love* Connect Bot, and Dolphin HD Browser.

Also.. Google Reader and the XKCD, Dinosaur Comics, and SMBC apps. :D

Ugh, widgetLocker looks nice, but its pricey. :(

Opera mini for browsing, double twist for media, grooveshark for music, ES File Explorer to check files and folders on the phone and external memory, ebuddy for MSN.. Advanced Task Killer, to kill those stubborn programs or to save battery… Angry birds as your game

Pirate it - the app will complain that you didn't buy it, but it's good for trialing it. That's what I did, and I bought it after a month :p

Pulse is great for reading news, my6sense is also pretty good if you don't like your news sorted by source. Google Reader is better than my6sense (but my GR is sooo cluttered I just use m6s :p)

Titanium Backup for quick backup/uninstall

Dropbox for pirating apps (make apk folder in dropbox, enable sideloading)
Epistle for taking notes (takes notes to your dropbox)

I use ADW.Launcher because it lets me ditch the dockbar, but you really have to try a bunch of launchers to find the one that works best for you.

EDIT: And yeah, ES File Explorer!

More: TypoClock, Handcent, Google Voice, Andy83 (this was pulled from the market, find an apk - it's worth the trouble!), wolfram alpha, MyTracks, VLC Stream and Convert
