I'm not sure if it's possible with how the Simba updaters work and whether or not a script can grab new information after it has detected an update and recompile itself (essentially), but if it can, here's a good idea: if hooks are outdated, wait (up to 8 hours or something?) until new hooks are found, then run the script. This would be useful for people who want to start a script before they have to go somewhere (most likely work/school), but hooks are outdated, so they can't - goodbye 8+ hours of autoing!
Again, I'm not even sure if it's possible, but this would be a cool idea.

I think it would be possible.. the same way how a script can load & release bitmaps etc during the script?
It sounds like doing that with hooks would be possible.. to load from some include.. that gets updated

This goes back to the idea of loading hooks from an xml file. All you would have to do is download the new .xml when it is updated and the hooks could be loaded from that file.

Could the script do this (point it to a URL)? The point being is to have this be done while one is away.

Yes a script could do this, but it makes much more sense for the reflection include to do this.

Loading the hooks from an xml file would be a good idea, that way Simba would just download it when there is an update. It would be just like the includes.
Btw if any of you guys wanted to try and get the updated hooks but don't have access to an updater, they started posting the #642 ones over here:

Could use a color script.
But an XML file combined with fixing SMART so you don't have to reload the RS client in the browser after an update would be perfect.

There aren't always color scripts available for what you want, and sometimes it's not worth it to spend hours making your own.
@MormonMan: I generally meant Simba, not specifically the script being ran - ofc reflection would handle it.

You could wouldn't be too hard, just time consuming you'd have to write the whole include again with the correct hooks (you'd steal from RSBot, not hard at all). You'd also have to make them usable in SIMBA

Then is it worth the time, and is anyone knowledgeable enough to do so willing to take the time of day to do this?

Update detected -> Stop script, infinite loop checking reflection -> DL new reflection -> Write batch file to kill simba and then start Simba & run current script (Simba has the same command line switches SCAR has, right?) -> run batch file.
Done, no rewriting required, just a couple tweaks.

That's exactly what I wanted, I just don't know how to do this.

Why would we need to make batch files an so on?
Just change hooks from constants to variables, and have the script update those variables :)

So would it be somewhat like calling FindNormalRandoms in your script, except it would be like FindClientUpdate or something along those lines?
It would be a lot easier if more of the reflection devs had an updater and we didn't have to rely upon one of them for hook output. I know Iamadam is working on one though, so its only a matter of time :)

Umm, I do too… It is just in the works and can only get some hooks now.

We shouldn't need a batch file at all; although it would work. We should figure out why SMART throws the error, then fix it.

Aye, the only reason to have the batch file is that it would require very few changes to the code.

Which may be better temporarily until we can actually figure out the issue with SMART.

What issue :S If I knew how to get hooks, I'd probably write a program to do it this week. Is there any tutorials on hooks for smart?

There's one in my sig and a few on the Moparisthebest and RSHacking forums. It's harder than you think ;)

SMART throws an error if you don't load RS in your browser after an update.

The point is for the script to start once updated hooks are detected so you don't have to be at the computer waiting for the Reflection update. Also, it can take more than just that hour for pyroryan/someone else with a hook updater + GIT commiting access to get online AND do what they need to.

Well, most solutions I see here as not really viable / proper, IMO. Just download a new file and restart the script. A RS update kills the script anyway.

The problem is who would be providing that new hook file? Would there be a way to have an updater run autonomously upon sensing an RS update (client revision number change perhaps) and then post the hooks in the client hacking section? Sure there may need to be some hooks updated, but it would provide most of the hooks needed for object finding and whatnot. That's what they do at RSHacking at least, but I have no clue how they set it up :p
