Web Development Project

What do I hope to acheive?
- A fully functional web
- The ability to do:
- WebWalk(ClosestBank)
- WebWalk(Bank_DB)
- WebWalk(1234, 1234)
- Will count for obstacles obviously
- Will count for ladders, stairs etc.

Where does the community come in?
Well I am all about community projects and open-source as many of you know xD
So what I need the help with is:
- Record gathering
- Walkable Tiles

In the next day I will be creating functions that will do this for you, it will just need to be integrated into scripts.

-Boom

You need to have a standardized way to add locations and areas to the web. Make sure you use record types to make it neat and readable. I suggest setting up a repository so that other people can watch and attempt to help with the development. The biggest part of this project is data collection.

Yeah I am making a function that will record tiles that people walk on and then uploads to a database. with headers:
x, y, walkable
(int int bool)
Then I will have a record of:

type
obstacle = record
id: Integer;
x, y: Integer;
height: Integer;

I can create any functions that you have trouble making, I think in an intuitive way when creating functions, but honestly I think that making a long list of paths (that are doubly linked) is the best approach (and I've started this already, just never finished it.)

You approach will use… how many tiles are there? Around 2000x2000? That's 4,000,000 tiles total, which each one will use 16Kbs, and that's not even mentioning the obstacles. Not sure how you're gonna go managing all that memory… but that's a shit load of it to manage which you obviously wont be able to use RAM to handle, meaning variables are out of the question.

Be sure to use correct standards WHILE you are working on it and not fix it afterwards…

I started a project last summer where I wanted to make walking support for the whole world, with locations like bank, anvil, furnace, trees, and any locations of choice would be supported. I figured I should use the A* method for finding the shortest path possible, but I never really got it working. If you want I can PM you the script I wrote, if you need inspiration :p

EDIT:
Yay, I found my old thread about it: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58197

The idea was to map all special locations like those marked on the minimap (bank, spinning wheel, anvil etc.) and some special tiles placed on common paths so it could walk like a normal person, mostly placed on crossroads. It would walk a somewhat random path to the given tile, quite cool. Looking back at it I feel like I want to start working on it again :p

Well, let me show you what I think :)

Basically the tiles in blue will be the ones that will need to be collected.
The red X's are the max tile movement
The blue X's allow for a randomness of 1.

type
TNode = record
angle, dist: Integer;
TFork = array of TNode;
If you use, give me credits. If everything falls into place I may end up developing that ^.

Why do you need every tile? Just have nodes that have clear line of sight between children/neighbors/fork/whatever, and blind click between nodes.
