I can't remember ever hearing anything good about Opera.
I prefer Chrome, but I've been told FF4 is great so I'm upgrading my FF to FF4 ;)

I like Chrome because it's so light, but whenever I need to do something awesome something that you need addons for, FF is
the browser!

Well, I don't like chrome because it's too simplistic. Firefox 4 is a lot faster than the previous releases, and all the other browsers suck. (IE, Safari, etc)

Not to derail the thread too much, but why do so many Scandinavians like Opera (like 80% of market share there or something crazy high), but the rest of the world isn't even close (like 1% at most in most countries)? Seems weird.

Uuuh, because Opera is made by Norwegians?
Also, Opera = meh. EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN NORWAY, OMAGAWD HOW CAN I SAY THAT?
Slightly disappointed over the fact that the RC contains no new features, but I know it's borderline of me to expect that. Also, pretty weird that the FF beta didn't notify me that the RC was released?

I've just been running Minefield, the nightly since it was 3.7pre. It most definitely has come a long way and it makes me feel not guilty about purposefully using FF over Chrome like 3.6 was starting to make me do. Now I'm safe to say that this is better and whatnot.

I'd rather hear some reasons why they stink than just pure bitching. Chromes simplicity is what I love about it. The average computer user don't need anything more than what Chrome shows. Back button, forward button, refresh, home, URL-bar with quick bookmarking and a button for settings. What more do you need? For light-weight computers Chrome is god.
While everyone are entitled to their own opinions, I find it childish to say "everything but my favourite sucks" without stating reasons.
But hey, that's just my opinion!
EDIT: Hmm, I didn't quite see that (except for chrome, opera, firefox) part. But my opinion is still stays the same. :)

I beg to differ, its the heavy on memory recources, but there is a reason for that.
I'll leave that up to you to figure out.
Press CTRL+ALT+Delete and add up the multiple chrome applications on 1 tab. Then open another 20 more.

Your the type of guy that would get a virus and say oh.. I just need a simple antivirus to fix it (norton, avg or mcafee).. That sir is a load of Male cow shit.. The average user uses more features than u think.. thats the reason a person gets a smart phone over a samsung flip phone..
Chrome has the worst security ever, lacks plugins, and some great features are missing.. There isnt even a need to say why Internet explorer sucks.. As for safari I know it sucks cuz I use a hackintosh all the time and safari has no security (for windows).. If you download custom iphone software (on the mac part), it WILL remove parts of it essentially fucking up your brand new iphone. (PS I worked at the apple store before)
Want me to explain why netscape sucks too? doubt i needa explain that..
As for ranks… I'd rank it:
1. Firefox
2. Opera.

Guys why bother arguing?.
From: LifeHacker
At the end of the day, both Chrome and Firefox are excellent web browsers for Windows, and you can't go wrong with either. From our perspective, more and more power users seem to be swapping happily to Chrome from Firefox (several Lifehacker editors have made this switch and haven't looked back), and their switch has been spurred mostly by the bloat issues mentioned above. If you've been frustrated with Firefox, we'd recommend kicking the tires and Chrome to see how you like it; you can always switch back if you decide your heart lies with Firefox.
If, on the other hand, you're perfectly happy with Firefox, we don't see any reason to upset a good thing. (If it ain't broke and all that.)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!.
If your happy with whatever browser your using then its the best for you!.

People are happy with IE 6(7,8,9) & Safari simply because they don't know better. They don't know about security, they don't know of the burden they put on web developers. ``Power users'' going to chrome seems like a silly statement, since Chrome
removes most of the tweaking and customising firefox offers. Power users that don't customise or tweak are not power users.

Because they don't know better, or because they don't need better? The average user (the average ordinary human being, not the average computergeek) has no need for the possibilities that browsers like Firefox offers.

Hence why this is posted on a nerd forum?
Most of the SRL users know alot of coding and therefore use firefox for that reason.
Chrome is part with Avast Antivirus, so now its becoming more of an advertisement for other companies can use. Firefox and Opera are not for the "average user" but can be used as a regular browser for better plugins, and email support, that google chrome doesn't have.
(i know google chrome has plugins, there just all knock offs from firefox)
So before you begin to rant on being such a fanboy for google chrome, take the time to research your browser. You still have to see how much memory it uses for EACH tab you open.
But you wouldn't know anything abou that since you are an "average user"

Firefox don't suck. Chrome don't suck. Internet Explorer don't suck. Safari don't suck. Opera don't suck. All of them has flaws, but every single one of them are still very useful to its users, and therefore they do NOT suck. Which is my whole point.

People are still using IE 6 which doesn't have tabs…IE 7 and 8 are terribly slow, and IE9 is only available on win vista/7 (for no reason), and they are all only on windows. Thus IE sucks. Safari sucks because of lack of cusomization of anything, slowness, and it only runs fairly well on macs afaik. Chrome is similarly lacking in customization, it tracks you, among other annoyances, but it is alright. Opera is alright as well, just not my style. But the vast majority of browsers do suck or are derivatives of the ones that don't suck. I see nothing wrong with Wizzup's statement.

When its a self spreading worm they use universal techniques which will not work with firefox's master password enabled. If you have a master password on firefox and you get password dumped thats because someone payed special attention to you and specifically targeted you. Its not an easy job however it is possible. All in all, its an effectively optimized extra layer of security that other browsers do not include.

addon compatibility reporter allows you to enable addons that haven't been upgraded to work with 4.0 but still do work. btw. It may not make it so that all addons work (because i've had 1 that didnt, 2 if you include greasemonkey (though greasefire is better than greasemonkey anyways), which isnt many) which almost no one actually knows about. I see people complaining that certain addons dont work after upgrading, but they're ones that I have installed and that they still work. So try that!

I tried using Ubuntu, but it didn't have any specific drivers for my graphics card, only the generic ones which made games (Such as runescape) run at around 1-2 FPS.

The default drivers are the official drivers, Intel's driver just aren't too good. ;)
Plus, their GPU's aren't fast either.

I have the 965 and the Linux OS's I tried just kept constantly freezing up (you know, I actually like the bit with Windows when it actually restarts your OS when something is wrong :p). I remember the time when I was complaining on IRC about it and you just blamed Intel about them being shitty programmers (yet, the problem has never occurred with Windows, funnily enough, if they're shitty programmers) :p
I installed the Beta when I upgraded my families computer, then I see this thread was made a day after I installed it! :p Overall it's nice :)

yes sure google Chrome is the best browser, when i first downloaded it, my internet was running at a lighting speed, i even checked my speed
http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/and it was normal too, hitherto i used firefox which chocked my browsing capabilities .
But the only one advantage with firefox is that it has more add ons, which makes things much easier

Starts faster for me anyway. I think Chrome is still faster, but I do love Firefox…

Ian in your opinion is 5.0 any good? I've got that freaking pop up on my computer and can't decide.

I see no reason not to update, other than it's just a little silly to me. I don't think that security updates after two months are a reason to make an entire new version, but it's also not difficult to do (much less difficult on linux distros like ubuntu <3). It's (arguably) more secure, and they aren't supporting any previous versions (including 4), so I guess if you're the kind of guy who still uses XP to use it rather than because you can't update due to a lack of sufficient hardware, you might also want to stick with FF4.
But really, it's the same exact browser with security updates. You won't notice any difference.

I barely saw any cosmetic changes. It practically looks and feels the same for me.

So no point in putting it off and it will stop that annoying pop up. Thanks for the well thought out and explained answer Ian. :)
