RRL Randoms Development

If you wish to hate, please refrain from posting and bomb me via PM or MSN.Why not help out the development of
RRL today?
For those of you that don't know what RRL is, here's a quick nutshell explanation:
- A fast include to utilize reflection
- Stable
- Flexible
- No memory-leaks
- Actively developed
- Cross-support for SCAR/Simba
- Can work independent from the SRL include
For the others, who have tried out RRL, how would you like to help make it more expansive?
—
RRL is currently in a serious lack of functionality–in the area of Random Events. As you know, Random Events play a huge part in an includes success.
RRL currently covers two random events, of which neither are fully tested.
This is a problem!In the includes current state, it is licensed under a very restrictive license to outside modification (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0), this is for reasons obvious to ensure the includes success. So what I ask of you, is if you would be so kind to lend me a few accounts out of your army that have experienced random events.
Once the include is nearing completion, the include will be switched to a less restrictive license (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0), and will be more open to be adapted to communities, such as SRL, and be open to development by third-parties.
Please lend all accounts via SRL PM or MSN.
MSN: Timer150@Gmail.com
Any temporary account donations would be greatly appreciated.
Helping out will be rewarded with:
- A warm feeling that you helped RRL grow. :)
- Your name in the random-specific file.

I completely agree with frement and marpis. This seems ridiculous to me when RRL will use SRL anyway. Why would users want to download two includes rather than one. I've had a quick look through RRL and it looks fantastic, it's a shame that you are not developing it on top of/as part of SRL.
Edit: I just reread and I see RRL plans to be independent of SRL. Why? For me the strength of the current reflection is that it has color back up and great mouse and TPA sorting functions from the SRL include. Why in gods name would you want to start over when you have such a great base to work from.

Sounds good :) I find it a bit weird you guarantee that there are no memory leaks, though. Also, from quickly glancing through your code, I found this:
finally
try
except
SmartFreeObject(InventoryInterface);
end;
try
except
SmartFreeObject(TheSlot);
end;
end;
Which is a bit of a weird construct? You basically never call SmartFreeObject?

Finally is called whenever you leave the body of the try clause (whether it's through an exception, exit, or just just successfully running through the code). Except, however, is only called in the case of an exception. But as you can't generate an exception out of nothing, the exception clause will never be reached.
program new;
begin
try
WriteLn('Hai');
Exit;
finally
WriteLn('There');
try
except
WriteLn('Oh');
end;
try
except
WriteLn('Noes');
end;
end;
end.
Even when you do generate an exception, it never gets called:
program new;
var
i: Integer;
begin
i := 0;
try
WriteLn('Hai');
WriteLn(100 / i);
finally
WriteLn('There');
try
except
WriteLn('Oh');
end;
try
except
WriteLn('Noes');
end;
end;
end.

I agree with Nava2, this is a slap in the face to the reflection developers that have already spent a lot of time making reflection a great asset in script writing. Sure, reflection has some bugs. More people just have to step up and be willing to help out the reflection team rather than going off and trying to put it to shame with their own include.

They dont let him work on *SRL's* reflection (which is really just reflection, not SRLs, because SRL doesn't want reflection in the include) iirc, ask around for why. That being said, he obviously has the time and skill to create this, and should be praised for it.
Also, Timer was once an SRL Member, banned for disrespect iirc. You were banned for account stealing and then came back. who was banned for worse? I trust both of you with any accounts that I would have.

Definitely dont put him down for the work he is putting into his own include. When he showed me the include, I asked him alot of the same questions, but it is his choice. I also am slightly put off that he was permanently banned as an include can be changed easily to steal information.
I don't know why he was banned though, and his include seems very well put together.
If I remember right, someone stated recently that there are 0 active reflection devs. I cant say that I would choose to fix something extremely messy or go work on something new considering I would be doing all the work myself anyway. It seems that fixing others messes is sometimes harder than starting over.
I am in no way trying to put down the people that have worked hard on SRL-Reflection, but it leaves much to be desired.

Well, you got some good points in there. But still, I must say that I was away for 3 years, and comparison to Timer, he was away like, how long? And I didn't know the reason of the ban, so sorry about that. Still, EvilChicken! is the only one that currently has my password for my accounts. And random developers have the password for my army. The "SRL" reflection was maintained by people who did not know what they were doing for to long. If you maintained a include that relied on SMART, one would think you would know you have to free smart objects to prevent memory leaks…

They wont accept this as the new base, for two reasons:
I wont allow any of the current reflection developers (or past developers, for that matter) to touch the official include, they would be restrained to a fork–if SRL makes one.
They wont throw out all the work in simba-reflection.

I'm glad they're this cautious, it's nice knowing that my passwords are safe using Scar or Simba, and we have the SRL developers to thank for that. But don't get me wrong, it looks like you've put a good deal of work into your include and I've nothing against it, but I still think until you work with the community on development, you should keep this private for yourself, it's just not worth the risk of everyone IMO.

Why bother arguing about whether it's open source or not? You can read all the code you want, so you can read through it to see if it got any suspicious code, which I highly doubt. If you don't want to use RRL, don't! It's that simple. What's wrong with Timer developing his own include, and what's stopping him from doing it? There's no harm in it, is there? No.

I have a comment that might be good or might be bad depending on your views but dont judge me.
In my opinion both includes should be merged.. if u dont trust him then just read the includes and see if u can merge them. How it affects the user is crucial.. I just tried to use RRL alone, it failed pretty hard because there are so many important things missing.. the Bank.txt is almost completely empty.. The difference in commands is ridiculous.. Example:
R_FindRandoms… in RRL its R_HandleRandoms or something… Having to change everything is not very user friendly for the people that want to use both. R_InvCount is the same as R_GetInventoryCountByID… waw… really now? Thats way to much of a change… Dont get me wrong I like both Reflection by Simba and RRL.. But the thing is IF I wanna use scar, I have to rewrite my entire program.. and there is only one reason I wanna use scar atm.. and that is:
InterScarMessage… Which simba doesnt support.. This command allows keypresses even with smart open. There are also other features which I like.. but having to use two programs and two different Libraries isnt very efficient for myself and other users. Besides that The two libraries are totally completely different.
If I was smart enough, Id probably have merged both libraries to work along side eachother rather than two separate libraries.

He does this on purpose, I wouldn't bother with it too much if I were you. He wants you to use scar so that's why he's trying to use completely useless functions. Like requiring log10 when there's logn. You know I'm actually laughing IRL now because he's using InterScarMessage in an include which runs on a single thread.

It's a small factor for a big reward.
interscarmessage would be nice on simba

say im using smart and some idiot asks me a question … I would have to stop smart and respond rite? According to the description it allows keypresses with smart open. Tell me if im totally confused or off the mark.

Well, it's mainly off topic here. I think you can just type in the SMART window if you're using a recent SMART, no need to stop the script. You could also make your script respond to a certain key being down; on which it would ask you what text you would like to type. Don't see why you need InterScarMessages for that.
wouldnt you have to stop your script and disable smart in order to respond to someone talking to you?

In my opinion both includes should be merged.. If u dont trust him then just read the includes and see if u can merge them. How it affects the user is crucial.. I just tried to use rrl alone, it failed pretty hard because there are so many important things missing.. The bank.txt is almost completely empty.. The difference in commands is ridiculous.. Example:

His plan is to completely remove the need for srl-reflection, its just not complete at this point.

Sorry didnt mean to start a derailment.. but There were quite a bit of questions in my previous post.. Like why have two libraries separate when you can have just one?! ONE.. is all the USERS need.. whether it is a problem between developers.. Or if developers arent getting along and decide to make separate libraries to spite each other, that has nothing to do with the community as a whole. Two different sets of commands that do exactly the same thing :S Why?
As For the development on RRL I dont mind it but I just see things different and only a need for one library.. You develop it and maybe an srl dev can implement it into srl.. it doesnt change the fact that YOU are still the developer of it.. I've Done lots of programs in c++ and released the code but no matter how much it changes from when I started it, its still my Idea, My work, My thoughts that went into it to get it as far as it did.
I mean a library consists of sections and different books.. but their all in the same building & on the same planet.. How ever you wanna take it. One of the points of simba and scar is to write scripts that WORK for ALL USERS.. it shouldnt matter what library you use or if you use scar vs simba.
As for InterScarMessage and typing while a script is running, this is only possible when u click the chat box.. otherwise if the simba/smart mouse is moving, you have to wait until its not moving to click the chat box and type.

Why have two libraries separate when you can have just one?!
srl-reflection is a pile of crap (no offence). Why should I have to fix someones coming up short?
People who didn't know what they were doing had developer's access too long, plus, the current developers dislike me.
Futhermore, RRL has been my personal project for over a year now. I just recently decided to re-write it and throw it on github for others to use.

The purpose of RRL isn't for SRL to adapt it.
It's simply my personal library that I'm offering for use. If SRL wants to adapt it they can talk to me.

RRL works in SCAR and Simba whereas srl-reflection only works in Simba.

Oh I see… Well If so, I'd like to suggest a few things.. add more functions to bank.txt… that only has 2 functions -_- Lots of functions are missing, not sure why. Maybe it takes long but Iunno, Im not a developer for this kind of stuff..
As for having to wait to type.. I dunno about you, but I've tried it several times.. I have to wait.. Well at least in simba.. Not sure about scar though.
Never knew it was a personal project as I only saw threads about using it on this site. So I thought it was a community thing :S
For now I'll just read through it, Not sure if I'll use it yet though because there is quite a bit missing but maybe ill find useful functions in it.
Just gotta get used to the commands being different I guess :/

ggzz you're very frustrating.
RRL works on simba and scar. You're creating some debate for yourself because you want to use a single procedure that's in scar, that really probably wont work very well for what you want it to in the end. Reflection has messy code and memory leaks. Timer wrote RRL for himself so he could have an include that doesn't have those problems.

No.
Aha, fail project then. If you're gonna talk shit on SRL/SRL Reflection why are you still here? Why are you asking us for help (even with random accounts)?! I mean, why can't you accept functions from us? I don't think your code is all that efficient, I'm sure people could come up with better. This should be a community effort, but I respect that you don't want it to be (for unknown reasons to me)…I don't know about everyone else, but I wouldn't support this because of Timer's attitude towards his own work. Dude, I hate to break it to you, but you aren't the best damn scripter around. Just sayin'.

I'm asking the people that use RRL for personal projects to help. ;)
I read through the thread and almost every point I was gonna hit in my next post was already mentioned. Um, I fail to see your reasoning for keeping this as a, uh, personal project? If it can serve the community well, why not allow the community to help? No point in keeping it how you have it when it has more potential than that.

Do you mean people stopped working on it? I can see that happen to a one man project, but not so much to a community project. At least less quickly than to a one man project.
Fortunately, SRL-Reflection is going back on track now. An important memory leak was fixed and it had nothing to do with the quality of the include. I went through it and it really isn't that bad, so don't throw around too much FUD.

Lmao, more FUD. A few people with commit access means certain commits can be blocked or changed (which you have experienced yourself); multiple people working on one project (and they don't all need commit access) doesn't mean they can all ruin it thus the chance on ruining it is higher.

If I used a .scar or .simba extension it would look like I'm taking sides for the Include.
.txt keeps an equal ground, plus, your point is invalid, you don't have to set your default .txt program to SCAR or Simba.
For one, you're not even legally allowed to modifiy it.
Two, they appear in the SCAR/Simba file browser just fine without extra clicks.
Three, you can just drag the .txt onto SCAR/Simba and it opens it, or right click Open With->SCAR/Simba in the sub menu.

All those arguments can't beat the fact that .simba or .scar is way easier. Besides, why does it matter which one you use? I can't understand why anyone would care about what "side" you take for the include.

Both Simba and Scar can open either extensions. It would be easier for everyone if you had .scar or .simba.
Having .scar or .simba harms noone.
Having .txt forces everyone who wants to open them (in SCAR or Simba) to waste precious seconds, and those seconds are actually precious.
