In what situations do you listen to music?
What emotions does music bring up to you?
I never have music just rolling in the background. When I listen to music I always give it my full focus. In fact, when I'm alone listening to a song that brings up emotions, I easily find my self completely lost in the song. I listen to many kinds of music, from deathcore metal to dubstep. Not rap, however.
When I'm at a gig listening to Suicide Silence, for example, I get 100% drawn into it and feel the adrenaline effect. When I'm listening to something slow, like Imogen heap - Hide and seek, which is an incredible song btw, I don't want to be bothered or interrupted and I either close my eyes or stare far in the distance.
Some people don't find music effecting their feelings, but for me it's like using hard drugs.
Does anyone else get this strong feelings from music?
EDIT: I also play the classic guitar myself.

Definitely with ya on this one. A lot of the time when I just want to relax and really think things through I'll just climb the stairs on top of my house and sit up there and play some music on my phone with some earphones on. It's just a daily thing for me, usually after I get back from bike riding.
Like you said, each individual song will trigger your mood to go a certain way, infact you might not like the mood you're in at the time and wanna play some music to alter it, I've been there for sure. As opposed to you, sometimes I'll have music playing in the background, for example, while I'm going for a walk, or even playing a game of Castle Wars, or maybe messing around with Simba. But alot of the time I'll drop whatever I was doing previously and just relax to some tunes.
And about the guitar, I envy you! As of just 3 days ago a friend bought a guitar for me because she knows how much I've always wanted to play, so I've just started learning how to play. I've a long ways to go!

Guitar is a fairly easy instrument, just by learning basic chords
C, D, E, G, A and their minors you can play almost every song there is. :)
Finger picking on the other hand, is much more difficult.

Ha yeah that's for sure, I've been just practicing one small tune over and over, one that alternates between A and C. I've only been finger picking which I don't think is really the problem for me. But pressing the strings for the chords on the neck of the guitar, tis painful on the fingers. :p But I'm surely trying, also working on memorizing those two chords so maybe one day I can switch between them without having to stop, look at my fingers, reposition them, and start over.
Yeah marpis, your certainly not alone with this. I used to do vocals for a band similar to Suicide Silence actually and that was basically my therapy. When touring we played 5-6 shows a week and that was by far my happiest point in life, as far as dealing with my own problems goes anyways.
Just zone out and literally scream your aggressions at everyone, nothing beats it.

There is one song I relate to each of my previous love interests that almost always bring tears to my eyes. Well, except for the one I actually dated, hate her now, lol. If I have the pod on shuffle I try not to listen to the song if anyone is around….
As for background music I almost always have some on at home. Even in the background there are few songs that increase my heart rate and I feel my adrenaline rise…and them I'm like, wtf am I so worked up?! and then I actually her the song and go, alright!!

I am listening to my ipod most of the time, I just enjoy having something going on in the background throughout the day. The world just seems too quiet without music. The type of music I listen to just depends on the attitude of the day. If I am busy, I listen to some upbeat dub or techno. If I am bored, I listen to metal. It all depends on what I'm feeling like.

Absolutely. To me, music and all other forms of art are just ways for people to physically express complex emotion. That is why I love metal. There is such a wide range of emotions from band to band that can cause me to feel like I want to have a raging moshpit, or even just chill out, smoke some bud, and immerse myself in the music.
