I've read through all of the terms and conditions, and you have to enter billing information to sign up to AdWords in the first place. However, if you only want to use the £50 card, then you're free to end the subscription at any time.

Advertise without risk. There's no minimum term or commitment. Once you use up your £50, you're free to continue advertising on AdWords, or not. It's up to you.

Advertisers will be charged for advertising which exceeds their promotional credit. Advertisers will need to suspend their ads if they do not wish to receive addition charges beyond the credit amount (the £50).

You should probably add all the stuff Google makes you have to do after activating that card..
