Where I am:
- £1.30 per litre
- $2.11 per litre
- £5.91 per gallon
- $9.59 per gallon
(This is the lowest I've seen. Some places are selling at £1.50 per litre.)

Conversions:
- 1 British pound = 1.6233 U.S. dollars
- 1 U.S. dollar = 0.616029077 British pounds
- 1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 litres
- 1 litre = 0.219969157 Imperial gallons

How much is petrol where you're at? Stupidly expensive over here, and still rising.

hovering just under $3/gal
All the gas stations here charge the same amount.

We used to have like $.73/litre

€1.65 / liter, which is $2.27 U.S. dollars. You still need it if you want to drive, though :p

$3.50 a gallon here in Hawaii, expected to rise because of the trouble in Libya, but Hawaii gets most of its oil from Indonesia so we are in better shape if anything happens than mainland America is.. National average in America is around $3.10 a gallon.

3.19/g in Texas.

I dont get it. If Librya only provides 2% of US OIL, then shouldnt the gas only go up 2%?

It shouldnt be rising everyday….

But that's politics for ya, always trying to find a way to make money.

even if we didnt get any oil from Libya, the prices would still go up because 1. there is less oil circulating, and 2. oil companies are evil.

Gas can be had for $1.02/litre here if you look around.

It's around $1.10 in New Brunswick, Canada.

It's near $3 per gallon in Maine (2 hour drive from uni = road trip to the states), I don't remember the price exactly, a little over 3 bucks.

well i dunno man americans have always had low gas prices cuz of deals we make and our companies, but i think EVERYONE is gonna be fucked about gas prices pretty soon, they need to get those hydrogen cars moving already cuz at this rate….

lol hyrdogen cars?

You serious? I rather pay 40-$120 a month on gas than rather pay $700~ on a car payment+insurance. Lol.

Use your nogen, there is a reason why corn oil isn't used as much as it should, its because Oil companies buy out ideas that people make on how to save the oil.

The reason Oil is so much cheaper in America is because we have offshore drilling in the gulf and we get our oil from Iraq,Mexico, Africa, and some other countries.

Gas is more expensive in Europe because there country doesn't allow offshore drilling.

We COULD be having more offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico because George W. Bush signed more contracs for open leases on spots on where they can drill, but as soon as Obama went into office he canceled that contract with the oil companies and cancled there leases for the spots on where they can drill in the gulf.

How do i know all this?

My dad builds and inspects Oil Rigs in Ingelside,Tx. He lost his job in January 2009 as soon as Obama became president because he canceled 50+ oil rigs that were going to be built and ready by this year 2011.

But everyone roots for obama because he's all about "green technology" but now listen to everyone complaining about gas. All the tree huggers in california can kiss our Texas ass.

A little hisotry, in the 1940's there were alot of offshore drilling in Cali. But there are alot of eco, friendly people over there that they shut them down.

Now there is oil washing up onto the shores of california and the eco enviromentilist think its from oil tankers. Its not, its seeping from the ground because the earth cracks and oil start coming from beneath the ocean.

This is all politics and thats all the United States runs on, which is GREEN.

My dad is happy that the price of gas went up because that means there is more of a demand for oil at his work. which he just got back in October 2010.

The higher the price of gas, the more jobs it opens here in South Texas and Louisiana.

Actually, the idea of making affordable biodiesel is well developed. In fact, in first year chemical engineering we created our own process to make a profitable biodiesel plant, while planning a hypothetical processing plant/refinery/whatever you wanna call it. If a few first year students can produce a profitable idea, imagine what real engineers (scientists, businessmen, etc) are doing in the field. The real problem comes from the source. For our source we used grain, but what does the grain come from? We're likely out-buying someone looking to feed their animals, make cooking oil, or turn the grain into flour for use in bread, etc. This chokes off the source of this grain from all of the places which rely on it, which in turn would rack up demand for the product. This creates a rise in price, which lowers profit on the biodiesel. Should this idea become profitable, it will need to be based off of a source which has a very steady supply (think of the GE). This is the main downfall of most alternate fuel sources.

Yep, not enough supply, but the demand will always be there. Almost like it is now with oil. Except there is SUPPLy we just get can't get too it.

The only way i can see grain working is if they developed other methods of creating it. Meaning artificial grain. Which i highly doubt at this point.

I guess thats why they pushed eletric cars. But did you know how much it cost to replace a electric battery in those things? I think its around $5000. Lol 5 grand for a battery? I really want to know how much electricity its requires to charge those things every day every night when you come home for work. Would also like to know the electric bill, and if these electric cars will eventually cause blackouts in major citys.

IMAGINE if every major city and every person owned an electric car, and they were all charging at night… lol there would be constant blackouts until they upgrade there power supplys.

Oh and i think in 2012 or 2014 obama is passing a bill that retailers cant sell vehicles that get under 30mpg.

ROFL. wow. idiot.

Where to start… Artificial Grains (?) won't make any difference. We would still have to devote land that would be better off feeding us then fueling our vehicles.

And yeah, batteries are expensive. There are a lot of reasons for that. However just pointing at random prices of components in ignorance doesn't really do you much.

Upgrading electrical grids can be done, but we cannot simply make new oil reserves that is economical to mine. It may be expensive but it's better than having no vehicles at all. (That is if the electrical grids even need upgrading, it may be that all is required is additional plants)

Overall electric vehicles are boat loads more efficient, the only thing holding them back are fuel storage. Once that is solved, you may even see yourself getting on a passenger plane powered solely by electricity.

New techniques for growing massive amounts of biomass could offset the traditional requirements for growing plants.

There are also techniques being developed to create methanol from the break down of trash in landfills. Some landfills in the States are already fitted for Methane collection, which is actually pretty easy to change into methanol if you know what you're doing. I had to do it for a chem lab once, it wasn't anything beyond what I could grasp.

To anyone who didn't understand, methanol is used as an additive to F1 race cars (or some other high caliber cars - I forget now) to increase the performance because it burns cleaner and safer than gasoline. The only problem is that it burns without visible flame, so the user is at high risk. This is why it is an additive, I believe there needs to be 15% gasoline for the flame to be visible, so it's much safer. Just another thought at alternative fuels.

Just filled my tank after my morning class and it was 3.37 per gallon.

I don't complain about petrol prices in the US because I know there are a lot of countries paying far higher than I am, and I drive a fuel efficient car (I would consider 40 Miles/Gallon average excellent fuel economy :s )

Iamadam

2011-03-02 16:15:32

$1.40/L here in Australia at the moment.

Hydrogen powered cars will be the way to go I think - just splitting hydrogen from water which is the problem. Maybe if they can get fission up and running as a power source for that?

Smartzkid

2011-03-03 23:12:50

Paid $3.25/gal today.

I think the problem with hydrogen is going to be distribution. Even now, electric charging points are hard enough to find. Once the (US) government has put all sorts of money into creating an electrical charging infrastructure, they're not going to want to spend more on a hydrogen filling infrastructure.
