Hey everyone, i just came back to runescape after getting interested from my cousin and i thought of this again. I never really got started with learning about scripts and this time i really want to learn how to do it and stick to it.

Right now, i've just messed around on the forums and looked at a bunch of tutorials to try to get a hang of what is going on. If anyone could point me in the right direction to help me really get started that would be great.

Can't wait to start learning :)

Welcome :) (back?)

If you want to learn scripting, I suggest just trying to write scripts. Start simple, and make more complex, better ones. If you ever need help, join the SRL IRC channel, and you'll likely find it.

Hey blother, it sounds like you have done a good amount of independent study so far! If you are still having issues understanding Pascal and scripting with Simba, you should look over some of Coh3n's tutorials (they are great for beginners). If you are still having problems, I'm pretty sure that you could get help on the irc chat. Anyways, welcome back :)

Damn Ogre beat me to the irc idea :p

Hmm haven't heard of Pascal acutally. Simba started up right as i stopped looking around a while back. I'll definately check out those tutorials tommarow, but for now i need to sleep.

I did learn some of the basic language before a left. Probably gonna need to relearn it all.

Simba scripts are written in Pascal.

I believe you'll find that the fastest way to learning how to script is to simply look at example scripts posted by others, study them to see "how" they work.

Alright, so i got on to the irc today. I can pretty much say it was a waste of time. No one really responded and when they did it was a smartass comment most of the time.

the IRC has that reputation, don't let it turn you off though! Posting on the forums might take longer, but I think you'll get better help.
You can also get great help if some people offer their IM addys to you. Once most people get out of the more public IRC many people stop trying to show off to their friends. :)

You just got on at a bad time I suppose.
There are plenty of people willing to help, if you get on at the right time. Also its during the week, people might be doing school assignments etc.

<Blother> why is this script so laggy?
<Keith> cause you touch yourself at night
<Blother> honestly though it is kind of ridiculous

How the hell was anyone supposed to answer that? Try asking intelligent questions, then you can get intelligent help. (That's all he said in IRC)

Okay, to my defense I didn't realize at the time that he was new :P

Either way, when you ask questions, even on IRC, you need to be a LOT more detailed than you were. Your question, unfortunately, gives us absolutely nothing to work with, and therefore we can't help you.

That wasn't what turned me off. I know that didn't really mean much, but i was on earlier asking actuall questions and getting a bunch of garbage in return. I didn't even bother to ask a real question because i expected the same thing. I probably should have given it a few more tries though before i gave up on it.

I did post a few things on some topics asking questions about scripts and what not. Hope i can get some good answers there.

On the subject of what i said in the irc though, i was trying the draynor chop and bank by Cohan (i think) and i finally got it to work after trying for like an hour (kept failing with the axe for some reason and first script i ever tried), but there was a ton of lag and i wasn't sure if that is normal because my computer is pretty good.
