So we're going to start seeing VM's with 3D capability? This means running real games / programs that couldn't run with no graphics card & no 3D before

That's what it sounds / looks like at least

I really can't wait, a whole new level of botting & running multiple games that don't allow you to run multiple instances under the same user account on windows

good stuff!

Amazing microsoft finally released an operating system that didn't fail out of the box.. took them a while to care enough & make a service pack

"This means running real games / programs that couldn't run with no graphics card & no 3D before"

I'm positive that is in no way factual. There is a difference between hardware and software. Hardware is needed for emulation.

Right now we can give VM's a lot of "hardware", they just can't run 3D

even extremely low requirement games.. ones that are only like 256MB of ram and zero graphics card (only needing the 3D) can't run on VM's

So are they saying you can play games over a VM? I'm impressed with even HD playback across a remote desktop connection.

Ya that would be sweet! Especially with better and better internet connection speeds becoming available, I think we are getting fiber optics in our city :O!!

Really? Where?

I haven't seen any virtual machines come up with anything yet… virtualbox has had their "3D acceleration" but it doesn't work the way we're talking.. pretty sure vmware is the same.

all I can find about vmware is "This line enables accelerated 3-D on the host. It is required to support accelerated 3-D in the guest and also enables the host to accelerate 2-D portions of the guest display. "

Actually nowadays the (free) player is powerful enough to do everything you can in the paid workstation edition. With one tiny caveat: You can run a vm for free in player, but you need the full workstation edition to initially create it. (or download and install trial, create vm, ditch trial, use player to be 100% legal)

The only big feature missing from the player is the ability to create and use snapshots.

Yea, if anything vmware is behind virtualbox in ability, and the free version is fine

Hmm, all I am understanding from this article is that 3d will now be supported with remote viewing of a desktop (Ultravnc, Teamviewer etc) I don't see how that related at all with Virtual Machines (virtual box, vmware etc)

Though idk much about VM's but it may be that they are accessed/viewed with remote desktop?

The idea of better VM management and possible being able to game across VM's would be prretty awesome. Run Linux with Windows VM and run all your Windows games and everything from windows without noticing any lag.

Yeah partial gravedig >.>

It's a good grave dig.. I wish people had a more heard voice, because we can emulate games from xbox and ps3.. wii.. etc I don't understand why virtual machine capabilities are so far behind.

I would love to see full gaming capability on VM's aswell
