Grading scheme
SRL Scripting Competition #6
SRL Scripting Competition #6
This one will be a bit more complex than most others, because of the freedom I give. It took some time to come up with this grading scheme. Any complaints? Please post them!
1. Features (/100+10 (+20))
There are 40 points per skill. Having both supported will lead to 10 bonus points. The final 20 points are for other, general things.
Woodcutting (/40)
- Banking support: up to 20 points (4 points per location). 10 bonus points for supporting every F2P tree.
- F2P MUST be supported, 40 penalty points if not. You will get points for p2p locations etc, but your script also needs to run on at least one F2P thingy.
- Other 20 points will be assigned for creative features (ie. underrated locations, other cool stuff that has to do with woodcutting).
- Also up to 20 points for locations. Quantity matters but as a general rule of thumb: if you got good training locations, more points per location!
- F2P MUST be supported, 40 penalty points if not.
- Support of every F2P-available log is assumed. 20 penalty points if not supported. Edit: If your script just cuts wood and burns the logs over there at that location, the penalty won't apply of course.
- The other 20 points will also be awarded for cool stuff that I can't think of right now.
General (/20)
Up to 20 points may be awarded for cool stuff like a form, detecting what do to and whatever. Be creative! Originality is rewarded a lot.
Bonus (/10)
5 Bonus points if you support both firemaking and woodcutting. Another 5 + some in general features if you can combine them really well.
2. Individuality/Creativity (/250)
This refers to whether your scripting style is your own or not. The more individual your script is, the better it is for you, because this means you really understand what all of the different procedures / functions / types / methods should be used for. it means you are relying less on other people, and are developing your own style.
If you got some creative (but good functioning) ways of doing things, this will also lead to extra points!
3. Logic and Technique (/250)
Both of this can also be called efficiency. This is the thing I am most strict about. The more efficient the script is, the better it is. Why constantly write out procedures when you can use a simple repeat instead? Are you using "end else" when needed? Do you have duplicate functions? Are you freeing DTMs / bitmaps after finishing with them? The more efficient your script is, the better it will run, and the easier errors will be to fix when the arise.
I also like to look at your technique: do you just randomly do some things and hope they will work ok? Or will you use things like flood-filling algorithms in order to find an anvil very accurate all the time? However, Keep It Simple, Stupid. Overcomplicated ways of doing things will not give you as many points as the easier way, if the results are exactly the same (or maybe the simple one is more efficient?)
Comments are also rated under this category. If I can't understand your code, points off! No need to overdo it, but the longer it'll take me to figure out what you're doing, the less points.
4. Leecherness/Presentation (/100)
This test will be easy. My cousin is 10 years old and has Down, so technically he is mentally retarded just like the average Runescape player. If he can get this to run within 10 mins, 100 points. Every minute longer will make you lose 10 points.
just kidding, but I will vote on user-friendliness. Settings is cool but they should be defaulted to something that 'just works'. Read my MSI thread on how not and how to actually do it. Really, it contains some useful feedback that might also be applicable to your script.
Presentation of a script is always important! And this should be easy marks. There are only 4 categories. Do you have a respectable title page? A decent progress report? Good scripting standards? Commented procedures and functions? (which is the one everyone always forgets!)
5. Script run (/600)
As you can see, this is a very important category. I'd like to have useful scripts, not a prototype iPhone.
In order to judge this fairly, I split it in a few categories.
Running length (/400)
1 point per minute this script runs great at my accounts (not counting randoms), maxes at 400.
This will be measured for both colour and reflection. Highest value will be taken.
Banned character will lead to 200 points penalty.
Reflection will be capped at 250 points for runtime length, because it's easier.
The run itself (/200 (+100))
Besides that I will look at how the script performs itself. For this I will award a maximum of 200 points, will be measured for both colour and reflection if features differ.
Formula: Max(Reflection runtime coolness bonus, colour*1.5)
For noobs: I will award both points for colour and reflection. The highest amount of points will be used. I might give a few bonus points for scripts not actually needing reflection. Colour has got a multiplier as reflection is easier (note: you can score up to 300 points as 200*1.5 = 300 with colour).
Good things: act like a human (switch trees, check paths).
Penalties can be given up to 300 points for this entire category for really bad behaviour (movemouse, walking like MSI etc.)
I will watch the script for approximately half an hour or so, both colour and reflection. My main will be the victim so be careful!
If you got both colour and reflection: ugly colour behaviour will be punished, too. Even if you got a flawless reflection! So make it work well.
Total points: 1200 (+130)
FAQ:
What's the difference in grading between members and juniors?
Juniors and Members will be graded the same (points awarded to juniors and members for the same level of script will be the same). However, they will not compete each other directly, means Jr. with 300 points can get the geepees and the member with 500 (just random examples).
Why all of those penalties?
I'd like to get some useful scripts out there! Actual production models, not stupid things that will get me banned! This is just to help you avoid falling into the common pitfalls.
My question isn't answered!
Just ask here or at IRC/MSN.
