Recently I've been staying with my sister in Lancaster Uni, and I noticed that the download speeds are phenomenal. I did a speed test to show the results:



At home I get about 2Mb/s, so this is a dramatic improvement.


My question, are most/all uni broadbands like this? As it's a surprisingly large factor in my choices for uni. I'm looking into London unis (UCL, Imperial etc.), so I'm guessing it's reasonable in these areas, due to location.

Your download speed will be bottlenecked because most sites don't have an upload speed to match that :p. Well I'm sure commercial sites like Google or something do but you know :p.

True. It's pretty handy for private torrent trackers though. :D

I bet!! I get 100Mb/s down and about 25 Mb/s up at UFV in BC, Canada. At home I get 20Mb/s down, 1.5 up on a good day.

I wish my high school's internet was that fast :p

My schools internet is shit slow, its probably around 3mb/s and even slower because of the fail filtering they have

My high school has 15mbps throughout the whole school. Sister's university has 150mbps for every dorm building IIRC

:eek: I get about 3 mbps in my dorms…and theres a 2gb/day bandwidth limit. I hit it almost every day and my internet gets shut off :duh:

Heh. They have I think a 500GB/month limit or something but it's almost not filtered at all. :D
I think I'm gonna go there for a few years when its time to start college.

University of Western Ontario, Canada

Crap speeds in rez.. about 1mb/s down.. 3mb/s up.

On-campus on the school network for profs etc, its some where around 90mb/s down and 50 up. o.O

They throttle the crap out of residences. :(
