Any suggestions for a better design? I recall a few people called it quite ugly. I agree, when we wrote most parts of Simba we mainly wrote it be functional and stable, not to look pretty. Stability was the main purpose of Simba. :)

So, suggestions? If you want another part of Simba to be remade so it looks better, just make another thread.

"If it's not broken, don't fix it."

The form works as intended, and to be honest, it doesn't look too bad. I don't really think there's a need to change it.

It wouldn't matter much if it changed, but it doesn't look nice at all as it is right now, that's for sure…

It's fine to me also. Making it look better would of course be….better. But I do like it just the way it is too.

A bit offtopic, but wouldn't it be better to make the updater external? As in, a separate application, so it could kill Simba and restart it after it has finished updating.

No updates available -> Remove annoying messagebox

Replace textbox with a single label, shrink the form horizontally and vertically, remove Close button

After update -> Update button changes to Close

If no updates are available -> Replace Update button with Close

Okay here are 4 versions of my ideas, they may or may not be possible. 2 full size, 2 slimline.

Added features:
-Changelog box -> Of course shows the change log of the latest reversion
-Rollback -> Roll back to a specific reversions (IMO is would be VERY useful)

Also in the mind concept with the rollback drop down, the change log box would then change to the change log of the selected reversion.

What do you think? :)

Oh yeah, and I cleaned up the title bar.

Yes I know they are a bit messy, i threw them together really quickly in paint so not everything is lined up as well as it could be :p

We are talking of the actual Simba updater. If you just used Reflection updater to show what you mean, then I must ask, who would want to roll back their Simba version?

I thought we were talking about like the forms it uses for its updating system (SRL/Ref/MSI)

Opps :)

Will make new thread then

There's no reason for what Hobbit made to not be used if a new form is to be used.

I like 810's updater for the includes. The Simba updater isn't often used, it's fine the way it is.

I like hobbit's slimline updater w/o rollback for simba's updater

Edit: is there a simba suggestions thread?

No, but a new thread in this subforum will do.

It's fine, except if updates aren't available, just show a messagebox that says "no updates available". no need to open the update dialog.

edit: Also after you open simba, if an update is available, prompt user to download updates.

I agree.
Other than that, the GUI seems fine to me.
I doubt most Simba users are concerned with how flashy their program looks.

Added this in Simba 0.97-rc1

Sounds like a good idea. Might be annoying when running scripts though?

It's no different from the include extensions. Perhaps add options like the extensions to check automatically, download automatically, or do it all manually.

What if you make it like a 1 time prompt. Like it checks when you open simba and if yes asks if update, if no, nothing. Then won't prompt again until next opening?

Yes. Exactly. Or just change it so that it won't check for updates during runtime.
