Botting runs.

So I was talking to one of my friends who plays RS (legitly lol)

and he's actually a mod…. so some info I got was, he recently got a letter that said that admins are inviting some mods to go around on sort of "botting" runs where they go around to different worlds and ban all the bots.

He said it happens on Sundays only for some reason lol.

I'm still going to go strong, but if you guys are scared then bot 24/6 =)

cheers

Well of course they go on bot runs. They're told places to look for bots as well. It's like part of their training to know what a bot looks and acts like and where they are.

I rarely see mods at highly botted areas, they are always hanging out in Varrock with their friends. I guess I will be careful on Sundays :p

ModWatcher! Let's gather intelligence on RS so we know where not to be :D

This can not be true, on the frontpage of Runescape was announced that if you get busted on botting they will reset ur "botted" stats. That would be ur warning. The second time you get cought botting, they will perm ban u.

I doubt they can just go around banning people just by watching them. I'd say you need a lot more evidence and proof than just watching to ban someone.

I find it interesting that people still use the "you can't do that!" argument. Why not? Why can't they, the people who own the game and have complete authority to do whatever they so please with the business they have as long as it stays legal, do that? What is making them not ban suspected botting accounts, when chances are the person really is botting? I understand that they don't go out and just ban everyone who doesn't talk, but if you see someone in the same place alone not talking, not answering, and just doing the same thing over and over, 9.9999 times out of ten, it is a bot. We of all people in the RuneScape world should know that.

They can ban you whenever they want for whatever they please. It's their game, their business, we simply are customers. They have every legal right to refuse service to anyone for anything.

Yeah yeah yeah. It's their game and right and they can do whatever they want. So they CAN, sure. My point is, is that they cant be 100% sure that just because an account shows all of the characteristics of bot doesn't mean that it is one. So they CAN do whatever they want yeah, but if a bunch of level 3 skillers are getting banned for no reason they'll be annoyed.

ohhh ur a saiyan???

no but if they reset now do u still get black marks for it or do they just keep note of that acc being a bot? ive have accs that have gotten black marks years ago and have gotten notice that they have been reset

Maybe the mods are getting paid, like bountyhunters, or ghost busters, or….worse. In fact, I can pick out a bot at any time, can't you? Better safe than sorry, so just ban them all on sight. For us cheaters they would be like a death squadron :(

Not if you monitor for mods. With reflection you can most likely catch a mod hook. After all it does show up in chat and it must be somewhere in the player info.

if ModDistance < 50 then LogOut;

Get outta there before they even see you.

You remember my old code! :) I think SRL still keeps chatlogs.

I was looking through my SRL logs recently and found a few screenshots of a PMod. I checked the corresponding text logs and they recorded other users who were chatting, but not the mod. Pretty interesting.

if ModDistance < 50 then SendKeys('Well thats enough for one day...'); LogOut;

As logging out immediately looks a bit suspicious, but then again if the distance away is '50', chances are they won't see you from that distance.

don't you think logging out if a mod is close would be suspicious?

It's set like that by default and it's possible to change what SRL does when it finds a mod by changing the srl_onFindMod variable

lol some more funny things, but he also said that mods lost a TON of power during the update ex:

if you witness people getting scammed, you can't actually make a legit report to get them banned, you can only give advice to the person saying they shouldnt do it.

also, with the new profanity filter update, there is absolutely nothing they can do about offensive language haha.

one other + of being a mod he says, is sometimes he'll just walk up to some place, type hi, see a lot of bots log out, then do his business =)

ill ask him to ss some of the messages he gets and hopefully post them in the future.

fyodor

2011-02-13 20:16:47

well i got a ss of the message.

(other messages were changes to guidelines and stuff like KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUISE!!)

in conclusion stuff like this DOES happen, and they do set dates. But it doesn't happen all the time.

cheers

Love that, coolest idea would be to record the mods!

Or even better, have your script running and watch if it can survive under the mods. Have an autoresponder nearby to save your ass. Death Challenge.

If logging out or moving some time shortly before a mod arrived was suspicious, I think a lot more people would be flagged for botting.
It's such an arbitrary action.
Theorycrafting of course as I doubt this will ever be widely implemented.
