So I started running my army in 2 Simbas (4 characters in each); however, it's kind of a pain to load the spearated armies. I have to run the first one, then change the Player file so the form loads different players. This has already been suggested in the form suggestions thread, but we need some idea of how do do this exactly.
There's that, and the player remote. Right now, the player remote will work properly because there's two scripts that are updating it. I was thinking there could be an "Open File" option in the remote, but I'm not exactly sure how to do this.
Then there's the issue about saving the files. I was just thinking, the script would check the name of the file. The first ones would be called Players1/Remote1, then Players2/Remote2. We could, of course have custom names, but that may be more trouble than it's worth.
So basically, we need ideas on exactly how to do this. I didn't realize until now that it all has to do with forms. Even if you don't know anything about them, throw your ideas out there!

Ok this is an idea coming from a 16 year old who is very tired and on a bus, so might be completely crap..
Set an integer to each character in the character file (ini?)
Now in the form the person can use a drop down menu to choose the characters they want to use.
This "initiates" the used integers.
Now you can use the player remote to open the character file and load the characters with "initiated" integers.
Maybe change a line in the char file with a list of strings of used characters?
Sorry if i am making no sense i will come back later on pc and make a more detailed explanation lster if need :)

Change how you store the armies. And implement my "Army Loader" form idea(you create another form that loads the different playerlists from a file and puts them in a tlistbox, then they choose what army from that list. You would also have to add a saver, or you could just do an edit box to save armies.

All the PlayersX, RemoteX have a line which says something like "Name=BlahBlah" which is the name the form will show (so loading will be easier for us humans)
And I'm working on a GUI for Player Remote extension for MSI

I think I understand, and that may work. :)

That would work for loading players in the form. I guess the same idea could be applied to the remote.

There already is one? Unless you're making improvements?

No, I'm not making improvements. I'm making a (new) different one

Or just make two completely separate folders with it installed twice.

That would involve Simba being installed twice also, which I don't like. You should be able to open the files you want anyway.

Well then you don't have to share player.txt files you can just uncheck the first half on one form, and in the other uncheck the second half.

Hah I like you're thinking. ;)
What about the player remote?

Hey guys i'm returning to this site. My pascal is a little rusty, however couldn't you accomplish this through the use of a multi dimensional array?
[Armies]
[0]
[Number of Players]
[0]
[1]
etc..
[1]
[Number of Players]
[0]
[1]
etc..
In this format you can have multiple armies stored in one file, and use any simba remote currently opened to control all armies.
In the form just above the first dropdown box, have an army drop down.
I'm unsure as the format of the improved remote in the works, but something similar could be applied.

Have the user input all their accounts on first run
Then have a checkbox next to each account they want to run that time.
Have MSI make a temp ini with the accounts it is using on that run.
Have the Player Remote (bear in mind I have never looked at it) check how many (temp) ini's are there, if more than one have a drop down menu to choose which one you want to edit?

I actually think that would work perfectly, I can't believe we didn't think of that earlier. :duh:

With what Mistagnerd said, there could be two sets of tabs in the remote, one for each army, and one for each player in each army.

I'd like to assist with MSI on my free time. I spend most of my time doing homework for my COBOL, Advanced PHP, and C# class. But when i'm not doing that I hope to become an active member of this community. I just have to read up on MSI core.
As a side note I have experience with Java and Pascal(obviously) as well.

That's great. :) There's some documentation done here (link is broken ATM, I'm working on fixing it), but not all of it. The Core guide in the tutorial section is way outdated, I don't recommend reading it.
You should also check out the
to-do list. :)

I just have Simba installed twice under C:\Simba and C:\Simba2 both with MSI. It seems to do the trick, but you might find an easier way.

I've been doing what IceFire said, and it's been working quite well. Have all your players saved in one Player.txt file, and just set some players to true in one Simba and the rest to true in the other Simba.
But I would really like to implement mormonman's idea eventually.
E: This has actually been taken care of with the SRL Player Remote, and the multiple army files will work with the new form.
