The situation with Naike

Bebe

2011-02-03 05:26:56

Recently there has been some suspicious activity from the user Naike. Due to this it has been decided that it is in the best interest of the community for his account to be put on a temporary "probationary" period.

Reasons:
  • Ogre made an agreement to sell Naike a Runescape membership pin in exchange for Runescape gold. Upon delivery of the pin by Ogre, Naike logged out and never provided payment.
  • A number of developer accounts that were intended to test randoms have recently been cleaned out of items and gold. The ip used to access those accounts matches the ip used by Naike when Ogre was scammed.

It has not been confirmed whether Naike acted of his own accord or if his account has/had been compromised. He has been demoted to SRL member until the situation can be sorted out. Please remember that SRL works on the basis of innocent until proven guilty. This is simply a precaution until the staff has had time to sort out the facts and make a determination as to where to go from here.

Always take precaution in every transaction that you partake in and to secure your accounts/passwords. When in doubt, always use a middleman.

Your army should be fine as it was never posted in the dev forums. Unless you sent it to some comprimised account it should still be safe.

Naike may now be a threat, but he's not an idiot. If you had directly given him the account, then he wouldn't have taken it. Far too obvious. If the accounts had been given to the dev team as a whole, then all of them are potential thieves. I'm not throwing any accusations at the dev team, of course.

Have we had any other suspicious activities from him?

this is awfully suspicous.. and if it matches his ip… thats pretty strong evidence wouldn't you say? and yes, he couldnt do it before the update. but, greed is a powerful emotion.

EDIT: my acc's passwords were hacked twice. but it was an IRL friend, who has already suffered for that.

The problem is with ISPs and their dynamic IPv4 pools. Most of Sweden will have the same IPs that N1ke has used (bredbandsbolaget.se). Thankfully this will change for the most part in IPv6, when ISPs (should) be giving each customer a static /64 block…

As some of you know, there have been a situation which was about me stealing a pin from Ogre on tuesday night. I did not do this, though I got all the evidence against me, and it's rather hard proving your innocents. I also heard from the Irc that SRL Randoms account were looted, no idea how much gp's that were taken, or if passwords was changed. My IP seems to match, so I cleaned my computer out last night, and changed all my passwords. I'm truly sorry that this happened, but as of now, I can't prove that I'm innocent.

I'm willing to get gp's for Ogre to sort that out, and me and tarajunky would have to talk about what was missing from the other account(s)!

I hate to say this, but it's highly unlikely that someone other than Naike had control of his account considering the SRL's dev teams account were wiped. It seems hard to imagine that someone stole Naike's password and did all this.

There was also something to do with Harry, and someone (one of you two [or whoever was on your account if you're innocent]) buying a PIN. There's a thread on it in the Members section.

Hard to imagine, but possible, quite possible. Maybe someone was waiting for the right moment? Maybe the "hacker" didn't see any use to those accounts, until free trade came back, maybe he has had Naike's password for a longer time.

My IP has been the same for 6 months at least, and I have dynamic IP too, no big deal, if hes computer had a virus, the "hacker" could've proxied through it, but if there has been no other logins then the one IP, I doubt there are chances that a "hacker" that "hacks" RS accounts, is old, and wise enough to do that. But as I can't view the IP logs, I can't really give any solid opinion.

he has now posted. on this topic. No offense, but i would read all the posts on a topic like this if i were you, not trying to flame. just pointing out the obvious my friend (:

and you bring some very good points to the table. and his IP has been the SAME for a month.. these are VERY good points now. it wouldn't take very much intelligence to do what you have stated. i have mixed feelings on it. but the IP thing does sort of lean me toward the fact that it very well could have been him.

Added EDIT that i forgot to say: i hadn't thought of those ideas… faking it would be easy.

As you can see, he hasn't logged on in a very long time, and that is the only IP he has ever used. That seems to point pretty strongly that it was him rather than some 'hacker', unless that hacker registered that account on my forum in 2008, and last logged on in November of 2010.

It seems pretty clear that this was him, and not a hacker. Also, if he was infected, he should be able to trace the infection and figure out who did it. (what IP is his computer connecting to? etc?) Still, it doesn't seem needed here, where it's obvious who did it.

This basically means that Naike's connection was used to steal from these accounts. This rules out keylogging, phishing, etc. The only other possibility left that makes Naike innocent is that someone not only knew all his passwords, but also used his internet connection to do all of this. I don't know Naike at all, but that doesn't seem very probably to me, and he seems guilty as sin.

Pyroryan and I went through some stuff over msn, and turns out that my VNC server could have been used. Would explain a lot, however I have no logs (as I reformatted my computer, as you wished) though, without logs it seems a bit too much as hollywood hacking.

What time (GMT -1) did this occur?
How much did Tara lose?

I'm not saying your guilty, but consider this:
You wan't to remain in the community to continue to benefit from SRL, and possibly become trusted again. If you gave the amount that was stolen back, you'd just look more guilty. If you gave nothing back, you'd still look pretty guilty, considering it was all through your IP address. By "trying" to compensate for a possible hack through your computer, you may come off as less guilty.

Hopefully there's some data in the logs that can prove something. I'm glad the community watches out for one another. :)

WT-Fakawi

2011-02-04 05:21:01

The way I see things: All scenarios excluding Naike are highly impropable if not reasonably impossible.

This means -that viewing the evidence- you are guilty.

What do you have to say in your defence?

A 'hacker' would have had to get your IP somehow, get the password for your VNC server somehow, lucked out by only logging onto it while you weren't on the computer (otherwise you would have known), somehow know you use this website and know your username/password on this website, and know where to look for the user/pass for the testing accounts. Also, with as slow as VNC is over any connection, it would have taken a lot of time to clear out that many accounts, so it's lucky you didn't access your computer during this long period of time.

Again, I don't know you, and so I don't have any reason to wish you innocent or guilty. But surely you can see that you look guilty as hell from the outside, almost to the point of without a doubt?

For 1 the names of the accounts stolen aren't posted anywhere actually on the SRL forums, only the passwords. However it is possible that the "hacker" could have keylogged you for some time, and used that information to connect through your computer to steal the stuff on the accounts (read: ridiculous). Although I'm sure now that I have mentioned this you will take this stance on the matter.

2, even if the "hacker" did somehow get access to the accounts, why would he care enough to use your connection to steal the items off the accounts? Why would he not just grab the username and password, steal the crap, and move on with his life?

P.S. for all you insinuating that the "hacker" may be posting with Naike's account……………………. what? use your common sense.

Why were you talking like you hardly know English in the beginning of the thread.. and then after people started calling you out on it.. bam you have great grammar again?

If someone did indeed "hack" your VNC, do you not look at your computer at all to see someones on it?

Over on jsp, I've seen hundreds of people who have been friends for YEARS, even real life friends and they still steal each others IN GAME items.. and lie for, months.. and months about it never being them.. at the same time they're selling the items in a different thread.
Sorry even if you "didn't" format your computer, I would still be iffy about someone actually taking over your stuff, I've seen ip / chat logs that were faked with over 100 lines of crap for $5 items.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it was from someone who is a member on this forum. As if he wasn't, he wouldn't know anything about the randoms accounts. And doing it from his own account would get him banned…

So the 'hacker' also would have had to forward a port from your router to the proxy that he set up in order to use it. Formatting your computer wouldn't have wiped this out since it lives on your router.

And on top of that, most innocent people don't just give stuff back if they didn't do anything..

I had two mods tell me to give it back, even though I wanted to be proven innocent first.. (Both I trust and been friends with for years)

So the 'hacker' also would have had to forward a port from your router to the proxy that he set up in order to use it. Formatting your computer wouldn't have wiped this out since it lives on your router.

That's way to complex for me, I know I forwarded ports back in the days when I ran dedicated CS:S servers. If that helps?
What do you mean with living in my router?

I can take a picture of the blinking bastard if you want me to :p

He means if you go into your router's menu (cmd -> ipconfig -> get ip address and paste it on your web-browser as http://[iphere]) you will be able to see the forwarded ports of this "hacker" I think.

Also I find it quite strange that Naike is guilty when he gave back 15m, if I had been in his shoes and stooped to that level (steal a bunch of stuff) I wouldn't care about coming back to these forums, or trying to look innocent. But I may be wrong.

That means that you DO NOT run a VNC server like you said you did, since you would have also had to forward a port on your router to that as well, which pretty much means you are a liar. Sorry.

I do run a VNC? lol.
I've been doing so for almost two years?

Seriously, take a chillpill.

Edit: Several people from this forum has been talking to me when I was on my iPod -> Via VNC -> MSN???

How do you run it on your computer without forwarding the port from the router to your computer? It's not possible. I'm not saying you don't run one, I'm saying it is impossible that you run one that you can access from the internet, without any knowledge of port forwarding. :)

Naike,
What router + firmware do you use.. what VNC program, website, client etc

there might be some that can automatically do it, though.. I don't know anyone who runs anything remote / server who hasn't heard the words "port forwarding" many times

Don't even have to look that up to know not using port forwarding with it.. isn't going to happen :P

only thing now is if he has some router that forwards everything (which I doubt)

That program is for linux and Naike uses windows.

If you did get keylogged how would he all of a sudden grabbed your villavu and mopar forums password (seeing as you hadn't logged into mopar in a very long time). He would only access these accounts if you logged into them again. Also I agree with lordsaturn. Why the fuck would he steal it on YOUR connection, it would lag heaps and could just drop out at anytime? Would he just grab all the passwords as fast as he could before you did something to stop him?

He would have done this on his home connection not with yours

Implying it's not the same concept. Could also have the RAT run something like cygwin to have the code run unedited, etc.. Could also use UPnP, which is enabled by default on most routers.

That's odd that you would say that, if you do have a guilty conscience. Just before all this Naike business, I did give you an account so that you could work on mordaut, and that account did belong to the developer army. Not trying to give Naike an alibi here, but if the "hacker" business is proven to be true, you are the top suspect.

Mods can check IP from which each post was made.
I forgot the URL to the mod board though :p, but I'm pretty sure it is, otherwise someone could have pointed it out already.

Edit:
The houstname of the IPs of the recent posts he has made here match the hostname of the posts he had made over a year ago, so yes I'd say it's him….

but i saw someone say tightvnc, i use that to remote access my laptop from my iPhone.
no port forwarding is necessary cause whenever my laptop is connected to the internet i can access it.
i used to know n1ke, why would he do this?

Can we get a conclusion?
I obviously didn't do this for five bucks, and Tara won't reply on how much he lost. I'll still give it all back.

Why would I even try to get back in, and pay back?

Re-think, please. And I'm not saying it in a bad way, I'm just tired of being pushed down a hole where I don't belong.

  • English, check.
  • Empathy, check.
  • Guilty conscience, check.

I do not think that Naike did this, but I do think a reasonable measure would be removal from the BM until things can formally be sorted out. Its a bit iffy, but perhaps make it a temporary thing.

No need to keep Naike stuck in members. :/

IP could very well be known. Other forums, IRC.
VNC Server password -> keylogger?
Using this website -> firefox open? Password stored?
Where user/pass accounts are -> don't know. And yeah, VNC takes some time.

I wouldn't be willing to pay back.. I'd say f* you, you know me, why would I pay for this shit, I'd rather re-bot the whole thing up cus the developers army is a loss to me too.

Doesn't it sound weird that someone is willing to pay back something they never took?

Dunno, if I raided the whole dev army and got away with it great.

Worst case scenario I'll just give back what I took, and since no one really knows how much it was I can probably still make a profit out of it!

And since this is a forum full of computer geeks, someone will probably find an excuse that is plausible enough for me to rely on. And if I've already done this before and gotten away with it, why not do it again?

And right now if Naike did do this, he is still profiting at least 30m from the dev army. Open your eyes people.
