So, Train := Timer, who was just recently banned. To follow the original rules of SRL he should be immediately banned again, though that would be rather unfair as many banned users have returned here and are now accepted as part of the community again.
My proposal here is that rather than continuously breaking the rule for people, why not instead change the banning system.
We could still suspend users, but a suspension would always be < 1 month. If we're going to allow people to just make another account and return after they are banned however, why not just start with temp bans?
Depending on the severity of their actions, start with a month ban, then maybe 3 months if they deserve another chance but are still acting out of line enough to be banned. I see no reason a third chance should be given though, so after that it should be permanent and ENFORCED.
If the person chooses to make another account during their temp ban, increase the ban length and immediately ban the new account (or just ban the IP during the ban?).
I realize the option to use methods like this already exist, but not really made use of from what I can see.
My reasoning for this is that clearly people do change. Many returning banned members have proven that.
It just seems a bit ridiculous to me that this rule is continuously ignored. However, this way the original rule is still at least being enforced.
I would love to hear other opinions on this.

the autoban for returning after a ban is no longer a rule (:(). I had to double check it myself as well….but he can get an infraction….
edit: I agree with it for the most part. If you know your account you worked hard on to get a good (maybe) reputation will be unbanned in a month you might refrain from making new accounts.

There is no way to track people over the internet unless you are the FBI. Every now and then you get lucky and find a link you need using IP addresses, sometimes different website databases even.
Seriously anyone in the entire community could be anyone else, it is entirely possible that even one of the admins you see now was once the same person who used an account that was permanently banned.
What good is it to ban people on the new accounts they come in if they are just going to go an create another one. In fact, if they are worried about their reputations they can just start over again.
Timer was banned for ..verbally trolling? Though his last ban was at best because passive humor towards people. It's honestly funny the hate some of you have for him just because of the things he says, not necessarily anything he's done. Compare him to anyone else who has ever been banned permanently and you'll realize the true nature of the situation. Ian and others, who did things like post images like E.D., hack people's accounts, leak information, scam people, break pretty simple and avoidable rules have been back for quite some time now. Not sure where all the new controversy is coming from, like timer having a new account is a huge surprise or a compromise to the integrity of SRL.
That being said, do you really expect temporary bans to solve these problems? If someone gets temp banned for a few months chances are they are going to create a new account regardless, or just quit. So really I don't understand in such a matter, why the staff is being criticized for the aftermath of these dilemmas that really have no practical solution to them.
Anyways, everyone has already shown their true colors and bad decisions once they are made sometimes we just have to live with them, and this is just one of those times.

There is no good solution plane and simple. If we know who they are when they come back, if we just ban them, they will most likely come back again but we will not know who they are. If we know who they are, then why ban them when we can keep an eye on them?

Just putting this out there, this has nothing to do with Timer. He is simply the first/most recent example that came to mind. I really have no opinion on his actual ban.
