Should I Graduate?

So, this year I am a senior, by grade, and am very shortly turning 18. I am homeschooled and play for a basketball team (We are actually quite good, we play mostly private schools and other homeschool teams, our record is 26-5). I am by no means the star of the team, but I enjoy playing and contribute as much as I can.

I am at a kind of impasse at this point in my life. Technically to play basketball you have to be 18 or under by September 1st, if you turn 19 on September 2nd you can still play. Normally I would graduate this year, but if I don't graduate I can play another year of basketball. I most likely will not play college, even if I stay another year, it would just be to make one more year of memories.

So my choice is whether or not to graduate. I already know my college plans, where I will go and such, but cannot decide if I want to graduate. To sum it up, if I do not graduate, I can play one more year of basketball, save a bit of money, start on some college (I can only take 9 hours per semester). If I do graduate, I will start on another part of my life, I will move out, closer to my job, and take college classes full time.

Basketball means a lot to me, but I am leaning towards moving on with my life. If I graduate next year, I will still miss it just as much, not to mention I will probably fight a lot more with my parents. So the question is, should I graduate this year or not?

I got a lot of friends who took a break after high school, for 6 months or a year and it really helped refresh them before college.. I myself went straight into college and after a year took that 6 month break..

I'd recommend staying another year… and taking as little as you can since you could technically already graduate right now (as you said) so you should have minimal classes you need to take, correct?

If you can make it sort of a fun year and have a very relaxed schedule I'd go for it

Well basically I would just work more and do school less. It wouldn't really be any more relaxed than it is now. I would still do some school, just less, not to mention I would still have chores (which are a lot when you live in the country), and really basketball takes up a lot of my time right now, with tournaments almost every weekend, at least one game a week and 2 practices a week.

graduate, move out, hit up college, join intramural basketball (and as many other sports as you want)
I've heard (colleges around here) that intramurals are more fun than actually playing for the school team anyway

Yeah, I may do that. The only thing is, the guys on the team are some of my best friends, not playing with them probably wouldn't be as much fun anyway. Anyway it is just a hard decision to make, I appreciate any of y'alls suggestions, I respect this communities' opinion.

With what you said in your second post, sirlaughsalot, I'd go with what Brain said.

Any particular reason for this opinion or just what was said earlier?

High school basketball isn't that great, I found that intramural basketball was more competitive and fun. Plus you don't have retarded coaches.

Also, you can always play basketball in your spare time with friends. You might as well get started on your college education.

Graduate. In my opinion, there is no point in sticking around just for athletics. You'll make new friends. Don't be afraid of change, embrace it!

I'd say skip college and go straight to the NBA.

I play A LOT of basketball my self and since im in my senior year I am facing the same thing as you are. Here are my tips:

First of all GO to Collage/Univesity. Period. You can no longer go to the Nba straight out of Highschool. You have to go to atleast one year of collage to be considered into any draft.

Second of all going to collage is a failsafe in life incase you are really not that good enough and cannot make it into the NBA. It gives you a lot of positive things. If you play collage ball you can increase your stock in front of Nba scouts. In collage you will learn much more things. A lot of new tricks, tips, new conditioning, drills, and I can go on and on. While your at it begin trying to major in something. You don't know what this life can bring you, so you have to be ready.

Third of all their are a lot of chicks in Collage.

There's so many pretty pictures!

I agree with the majority here. Graduate and get on with life. High school is not the best years of your life. Anyone who tells you otherwise never lived nor went to post-secondary.

I would definitely say going to college was one of the best choices I made (even though we call it university here).

I'm no where near done, and I loathe the time when I have to think about doing something else.

I already have a plan for my life, it does not involve the NBA, I am no where near that good at basketball, I wish I was, but I am not. I know what I want to major in. As for post-college, I am not sure, but I plan on

1. Getting a good job
2. Keeping said job
3. ?????
4. PROFIT!

Thanks for the advice, high school has definitely been the best years of my life so far, but I can't wait to be able to drink (legally), and move out.

Well, I already am pretty busy. I have a part-time job, school, and basketball, which take up a lot of my time, and when I don't have to do any of those things I am sleeping or doing chores. So if I didn't graduate, it would be that for another year, and I would prefer to work full time and go to college and pay my bills than have to come home and clean the kitchen and mow our lawn (Which literally takes 2 and a half hours) and stuff.

Don't postpone your graduation for sports, you can play elsewhere…
After one year you'll find another reason why not to graduate again, then you end up working full time because the $1500 sounds like a big money, and after a few years you realize it's not that big money after all and you should have graduated and gone to a good college.

That has happened to many of my friends.

Also, college life is awesome \,,/

Why delay the inevitable. You have a shit load of fun first year uni (at least where I go) because half of the material is review, and I personally did little work and still got a 3.9 GPA first semester. I'm cutting back on the partying this semester because only a bit is still high school review, and its a bit more work but after one month (out of four) I'm still at a 4.3 for the semester.

Graduate. Then go play Basketball somewhere you do not wear team clothes.
