Today's riddle 20/01/2010 (Riddle #2):
At the market, a farmer's wife sells half her eggs and half an egg to her sister, half the remainder plus half an egg to her next-door neighbour, half the new remainder plus half an egg to her father-in-law, and half of what was left over plus half an egg to the landlord of the local inn. She is left with one egg, which she takes home and has for her lunch. If she doesn't break any eggs, how many eggs does she start with?

Today's riddle 21/01/2010 (Riddle #3):
A troubadour arrives at a bridge with three objects (a ball, a hat and a bowling pin) in his hand. The guardian of the bridge warns him: "The bridge will only support your weight plus the weight of a maximum of two objects, and it is not possible to throw objects to the other side of the bridge." The troubadour nevertheless manages to cross the bridge with his three objects in a single trip. How does he do it?

RISK

He is juggling them. As if he would be juggling them, he would be able to carry all three objects across the bridge as there would always be one object that is not in his hand.

He rolls the ball to the other side of the bridge and waits for it to reach the other side, and like a champ, walks to the other side holding the other two objects.

Ooh, not quite Camaro'.

Yesterday's answer (Riddle #3) (highlight to see the answer):
He juggled them! If he juggles the objects all the way across the bridge, there is always one object that is not in the troubadour's hands.

Today's riddle 22/01/2010 (Riddle #4):
How can you make 1000 from a sum containing only '8's?

Rich

2011-01-21 10:29:08

888 + 88 + 8+ 8 + 8 = 1000

Boreas

2011-01-21 10:38:25

TBH I thought of juggling first (as I can juggle 3 balls OK), but I like Camaro's answer much better. It's pretty difficult (especially for someone trained in music and poetry) to juggle 3 items like those, because you have to throw them differently to catch the bowling pin on the narrow end and the hat on the rim (not to mention the amount of force varies for their weights).

Today's riddle 23/01/2010 (Riddle #5):
You are looking to cook three delicious meals. There are three stoves in front of you, a brick stove, a glass stove and a clay stove. You only have one match to light them. Which do you light first?

Riddle 5:
Don't light them in any particular order; take out the longest stick of wood chip you can find from any of the 3, light it, and use it to light all 3.

You light which ever one you want as you cook them one after the over, you did not say they all need to be lit or that you need to cook at the same time

Today's riddle 24/01/2010 (Riddle #6):
You are blind, deaf and mute - how many senses do you have left?

KingKong

Is this a trick question? cos i think the answer is 2

ZephyrsFury

2011-01-23 09:27:55

Depends on how many sense you believe there are in total, but assuming there are five, you have 3 senses remaining.

Today's riddle 6/01/2012 (Riddle #8):
Ben and Carl were in a 100 metre race. When Ben crossed the finish line, Carl was only at the 90-metre mark. Ben suggested they run another race. this time, Ben would start 10 metres behind the starting line. All other things being equal, will Carl win, lose, or will it be a tie in the second race? Explain.

Kyle Undefined

2012-01-05 08:59:22

Carl will win, seeing as he was slower, he used less energy therefore will have more to outrun Ben.

DeSnob

2012-01-06 20:12:00

Ben will win. By being set back 10m he will be at the 90m mark with Carl. He's faster so he'll run the last 10m first.

DeiJaiVui

2012-01-07 21:52:20

We don't know, seeing as we do not know if they used their full ability or how much stamina they have!

PatDuffy

2012-01-07 22:22:25

It would be a tie?

The reason is because Ben's average velocity is faster, so compromising with a 10m deficit to begin would result in them reaching the finish line at the same rate.

kevin33

2012-01-07 23:00:23

Ben will win Carl will lose. In the second race, Ben started ten meters back. By the time Carl reaches the 90meters, Ben will have caught to him. Since there is 10m left, the faster of the two guys will win. Since Ben is faster than Carl, he will win the final 10 meters and the race.
This is if the race is run fairly and Ben still has the energy he had in the first race to run at the same pace, as will Carl.

[XoL]

2012-01-08 01:14:39

It will tie, if Ben is moved back because of the 90 point/100 point. That -10 is the difference between their speeds, thus resulting in equal.

This or Ben wins, just because.
