On behalf of everyone here at Jagex we want to express our sincerest thanks for your votes, feedback and for playing such an important role in deciding the future of your game. We have been overwhelmed by the number of you who took part and are extremely grateful to all those who took it upon themselves to campaign so passionately both for and against the proposed update.

While the percentage of votes speak for themselves, it's important that we seriously consider all of your feedback and comments. So we'll be sitting down this weekend to carefully consider the next steps and will make an official announcement on Monday 17th January.

The moment of truth awaits!

3 weeks? It's been 3 years since it was implemented initially! I'm sure a weekend of suspense won't hurt. They're hardly going to turn around and just say "Oh, we've changed our minds", that would destroy their company.

You're not going to see any reversals of the old trade system/wilderness for a while.

Bullshit.

IT clearly says I VOTED FOR:

- Unrestricted Free Trade between players
- Unlimited staking in the Duel Arena
- The Grand Exchange would remain, but with the lower and upper price limits removed
- Party Room drop restrictions removed
- Item Lending still available
- Assist System still available
- LootShare and CoinShare still available

- The Wilderness becomes a rather dangerous area again and players can kill each other for their items
- PVP, Bounty and Bounty +1 Worlds removed (game mechanics may be re-used in the future)
- New objects that affect combat will be analysed on an individual basis
- Gravestones will still be used outside of the Wilderness
- Various PVP items and gear will still be available and won’t become 'rares'
- Revenants patrolling the Wilderness will be relocated
- Content located in the Wilderness will be reviewed as follows:
- Quests (e.g. Spirit of Summer) and Activities (e.g. Clan Wars) will be relocated
- Other content (e.g. Treasure Trails, the Beacon Network and D&Ds) will be looked at on a case-by-case basis

I better see all that shit on Tuesdays Update.

Uhm no. Maybe Rune ess will finally be a decent 25ea and Iron Ore back to 100ea (and Iron Bars 200ea, it's srsly hard to profit on smithing nowadays besides smelting).

I voted for wild/free trade to come back kinda last minute (Jan. 13). It would be cool to see it return. I just have a couple theories though…
1 - With the return of free trade/old wild, JaGeX will update their bot detection.
2 - Obvious money transfers from a bot to another account WILL BE CAUGHT.

Now I'm really undecided whether or not everything will turn out good, but I think I'll be fine. I only legit play on my main for fun/time wasting.

EvilChicken!

2011-01-15 05:17:58

I don't think their "new bot detection" system is anything to worry about. They have pulled such a hoax before, with little to no effect – a few accounts have been banned here and there, but I've never actually noticed a significant "upgrade" in the true meaning of the word.

I've never been banned for as long as I've botted, which I've done throughout my membership at SRL/Villavu.

I thought of that too, but you know what? I don't care. I am a pker first then skiller. I'm sick and tired of waiting for ep for a damn hour. I'm tired of needing dp.

I'm tired of having pure ess nearly the same price ass nature runes. All mineral bars are too expensive to make profit, which means its harder to find items to alch. Fletching is soo expensive too and you lose money on it when before it was actually profitable and fun.

I'm tired of being forced to bot on my pure because I cannot transfer to it cash from my main. It's not fun making a pure no more because there is no effort in getting stats and items. Right now I just bot soul wars because everyone else does the same and always a step ahead of me.

I hate rsdemon and how it raped Runescape and shows no respect to the game. I also hate rsbot because of its lack of respect to the game. I like SRL because it respects the game…..

You don't understand how much better the game would be with free trade and wilderness back.

They haven't specified a time period, they could wait until 2014 if they wanted to, it would still be sticking by the vote.

I genuinely can't understand the impatience, you should be grateful that they're finally in the stage of reversing it. Free trade, yes, that'll probably come back pretty quickly, as Andrew said it was "just a few lines of code". But in terms of the wilderness, they have quests to relocate, minigames to relocate, game mechanics to seriously alter, clue scrolls to be changed, entire areas completely changed. It's a lot of work, one that may take over 6 months.

Jagex may not realize this and we may not like it, but Runescape needs bots. Badly. More than anything, they are the only counter to Runescape's wild inflation; so long as there are bots, resource prices won't spiral out of control.

That said, yeah they're annoying when trying to train competitive skills (mining, woodcutting, combat, ect.).

Erm Jagex stated numorous times that they could bring back the wilderness within a few days or now if they wanted as they have everything coded and they would make the whole team work on reinstating them.

Andrew said that free trade was just a couple of lines of editing.

They do, because imagine if theres something is easily botted but is too expensive - rune essence or yews for instance. If it becomes really profitable to bot it, all the bots will bot it, thus driving the prices back down. Say 100k/hour gp botting yews, but its 50k/hour botting maples or iron ore. Yews will get botted until theres so many yews in the game the price drops back down, and an equilibrium is reached. Then the bots move to the next most profitable thing. Over time, I guess it would equal out to where each bot can make the best profit while still being able to sell their items - resulting in bots botting at many different places, many different items, all keeping it in balance of supply and demand to keep prices relatively stable and deflate the items that are too high.

Thats why most scripts are 50-100k gp an hour and its rare to get anything above that unless its a minigame or something, because over time the prices of resources become relatively stable with the time and levels required to get it. (It also turns RS into a "vanilla" clicking game, since everything is pretty much the same. Thank Andrew for pking :spot:)

The delay and hype up is a marketing thing… Jagex doesn't care about "Runescape" it's a business, with bisiness men working on it or with them… They delay and hype it up so everyone tells all their old friends who dont play runescape anymore, so rich kids who bot too much buy 100+ memberships, so people will tell new people about it just because it's on their mind because they can't wait for it… They know that everyone hates restricted trade, what's the point of not having trade in an MMORPG? More like "RPG-Chat room" rofl…

My thoughts on the topic:
  • It's gonna come back
  • I'm hoping there are enough old schoolers to keep prices steady
  • I can't wait to be rich again! :spot:

EDIT: And +1 to bots controlling the the prices on resources… Not because bots always control them, but because bots>humans when it comes to resources today… Back in the day it was the no lifers who controlled them :p

Inflation is about the general price of items… An influx of supply may appear to "fix" inflation, but it certainly doesn't.

A good example of inflation was when 76king was at it's peak. Everything was increasing in price every update because people were making like 5m a hour doing nothing. Suddenly people could buy lots of whatever they wanted and demand rose. However it meant some ways of making money was in a downward spiral. That 100k a hour you made fishing monkfish couldn't buy you a pair of dragon claws after 300 hours because a pair of dragon claws was now 40m instead.

Inflation is pretty good in RS, it could be a little bit better though. Besides, it's obvious Jagex cannot create a good way to cause deflation anyway so it's best not to gloom about the negativities of inflation.

For me, I do not mind botters making all the money they make. that's fine do whatever you gotta do.

On a different note however, I hope free trade will work out for the low wealth class in runescape. People want to enjoy the game and half of the people that play don't want to sit there and train skills for hours of a day everyday just so they can go kill something and not get the drop they wanted after killing X monster all day.

Money is one of the biggest concerns in this game. the economy is shit. Everything is honestly too expensive for low lvl players to buy to enjoy playing the game. that's why so many people switch over to WoW. Yes it's 15$ a month. But did you realize (if you've played it before) how easy it is? They have just as many things to do as Runescape does but they make the goals a lot easier to accomplish.

EDIT: Also, if the economy worked for the low class, it would work well for the high class too. cheaper items are the more people will buy. I'm talking about items people need. (Armor, Weapons, Potions, Food etc..)

So after this ramble of words and opinions my conclusion and hope is this. Keep on botting. Create your armies, over fill resources, make your money selling giant chunks of wood, ore, fish, whatever. But Do it for self gain. Don't do it to mess with the economy and screw everyone else over. And don't make it obvious you are botting. That's what gets you caught in the first place and "you" ruin it for everyone else. Jagex watches everything. They aren't stupid to say the least. It's easy to understand how they figure out how these bots work and where. It's all about patterns and movement.

The Grand Exchange price is right for 99%~ of the most common items.

Only things like party hats, crackers and spirit shields (and new GWD armour) have incorrect GE pricing.

Stuff like Feathers, Iron ore, coal, shark won't change in price. Some stuff that are at price ceilings and price floors will though (Raw chicken)

Also there was like 97% who wanted both back, but still they need to "think about it", they shoud think about what woud make their company earn the most money instead, and that is clearly to just bring it back.

Ge prices will just have a "recommended" price on the item you are wishing to buy or sell. It's up to the seller or the buyer to set the price equal, greater, or less than the recommended price. prior to '07 there was no recommended price. You could go by shop prices but people would still sell items at ridiculous prices. High or low.

No No No No and NO. Jagex went full out on this poll. They created multiple ads on youtube and on a lot of websites. They sent this out to news websites, they set a banner when you 1st login, and they've sent a lot of emails out to inactive players. They created two polls with a lot of hype. They only created the second poll because some people wanted to vote No but they nay sayers still got dominated. There mod's went on the forums and their respective clan chats. and started giving hints out and what they plan to do. They even made a thread that said "What are you doing to prepare for Wildy and FT".

This is MORE than a guaranteed content poll. Jagex can mess around with other garunteed content polls and not release an update even if the majority wanted it. But this is completely different and I'm pretty sure Jagex knows the consequences.

In the situation they are in now if they don't bring it back tons of players would become very disappointed in jagex yet again as many were when they dropped free trade and the wilderness.

Overall I think its pretty funny how FIRM and NEVER COMING BACK all of the mods and jagex in general was when they rid of it all. They realized their mistake immediately after the changes and probably decided to make themselves not look all that stupid and wait a few years so it would all cool down, and now look.. They made it seem wayyyy too easy to get it back, and now they are trying to act like they need to think it over… Jagex made up it's mind already, and I believe they are just trying to cover up their stupidity by having "discussions"…

Just because they've created a lot of publicity with this doesn't mean it's for sure, I've yet to see any confirmation of this being definite. Obviously I accept that is almost definite that it will be released, but the fact they are already being hesitant does raise concern.

Free trade, instant, yes. Wilderness, few months yet.

Publicity and money making go hand in hand. What you and others are missing is this. By advertising the poll they generated publicity. This publicity created an increase in web site visits which:
(1) Created revenue for Jagex and the adverts featured on their sites
(2) increase in accounts created.

even if this poll is not guaranteed to bring content into Runescape. This poll gave Jagex a good number of active players.

Richard, Nothing can ever be instant.. And what hesitation do you see? They said on the 17th they will roll out the official decision. In any company you need a majority vote from the shareholders of a company. A decision like this is huge. Why do you think they had the poll? To show their shareholders that people wanted this to come back. So Richard and everyone else, relax lol. You are all worrying about this way too much. I've been playing since '99 (classic) and Jagex has never went back on their word.

I think the most interesting thing will be the stress on the GE immediately before free trade.

I got a confirmation from a couple of mods that the video is infact real. So Wilderness is coming back its just a matter of when. Will see in like 5+ hours.

I agree. Also the dramatic increase and decrease in prices due to street consumerism.
