my comp is dead after 7 years of use.

funny thing is i have another computer that may be able to use the old one's parts.

in general, what parts are interchangeable?

i already took out the RAM, hard drive ( at least i think its the hard drive), the Network Card, and trying to take out the CD/DVD drives as i type this.

is there anything im missing?

Yeah, buy a new computer.

:)

Hard to tell unless you give us specs of both computers…

the dead one is a Sony RB40

the other one is a Dell Optiplex GX260

I think they both use the same Intel Mother board or at least similar i believe.

PSU, HDD, CDD, PCI cards will work in almost any computer.

RAM might me reusable, depending on the the age difference between the two computers.

why is the dead one dead? If the parts are fried, they're obviously not useable to other machines, and if it's just the OS you could just reinstall and voila operational computer.

when i turn it on, the fans run at max speed and the monitor doesnt get a signal. Sometimes the computer just refuses to turn on.

this means 2 things:

1. Motherboard has gone bad.

2. The PowerSupply has fried.

Either way, it doesnt matter. I already trashed that thing and my friend is going to use the shell as a speaker.

On top of that, i just found out my old comp doesnt support SATA link cables for my Hard Drive so i have to go and buy a SATA PCI controller for my working comp. *oh joy*

Speaker, as in subwoofer enclosure? I imagine a computer case would create some horrible harmonics…
