This is probably the best link I've seen on it. It doesn't seem that they accuse him of being a pot head, although they do mention that he was rejected from the military for failing a drug test.
More importantly I saw someone on the ridiculous thread (accusing of things that were not true by a 0 poster) ask how it was possible to live through it. The article has ideas:

How Giffords survived
She got immediate assistance: an aide on the scene stemmed the blood flow and raised her head so she didn't choke.
She got to surgery quickly: Giffords was in the operating room within 38 minutes of being shot.
The path of the bullet: It entered the left side of her brain and left few bone fragments. A bullet hitting the right side of the brain is almost always fatal.

The vague recollections of someone who last had any contact with him in 2007 mean precisely nothing when placed besides the shooter's own words from last month.

The guy was a right-winger. An extremist right-winger. His videos are rants against taxes, the Federal government, illegal immigrants, etc., all addressed to "property owners". The guy had an obsessive hatred of government and wanted a return to the gold standard. And, of course, he liked his guns.
