MSI Text Chat

Ok, I have a great idea but no coding experience,

Including a reply feature into MSI would allow users to reply to other players in world. This could be done by a button being assigned, upon pressing the button a text box opens allowing the user to type in his/her message, the script then types the message out using SIMBA's super special text typing feature-mabob on the next run of a loop/whatever other special system you guys have.

Forgive me if this is hard to do/impossibe/you cant be arsed/stfu noob :D

Open Form
Text := TextEntered;
TypeSend(Text);

Shouldn't be hard?

Yes, but with my coding adding those lines will f**k up MSI, SRL and Runescape :)

Lol, fu**ing up Runescape would be pretty hard to do with Simba ^^,

Yes, I agree. This is a good idea although I have no idea how to do it and I already have some projects going on for MSI, so I can't help you on this one. I should be done with one/some of them real soon though.

I would be happy to, but I am not up to the standards of MSI's :P
If I get time, I will create a "prototype" that MSI can edit to their needs/standards haha

Sorry for double post but here it is, in program form so you can test yourself :)

http://paste.villavu.com/show/248/

It will TypeSend the text entered in the form.

i thought it would be one of those basic 5 line scripts that i can just about create :D, i believe my most complicated script is lurking somewhere around the forum…

Isn't Ben working on something that allows typing into RS? I didn't understand but I got the impression from the latest thread. I think it was 6.5a (the thread about SMART)

Planned on adding this some time ago actually. I believe RM and Coh3n attempted it and something went wrong though?

I'm not sure sure exactly how were going to go about it (got a few ideas), but this feature will be in MSI eventually.

I think we had the user hit a key on the keyboard for the form to pop up, but for some reason, it never detected that the key was down.

We could always just have the form always open when MSI is running (just have it below SMART or something. That would probably be the easiest way. Could have it as an extra.

If Ben is working on a system built into SMART, though, that would obviously be better.

I like the fact that while I'm looking at this, i also have a MSI script powerchopping in the background :D

Yeah, I'm prety sure Ben is trying to do sOmething like this.
Regardless, the hardest part would be making the script detect the button press. Having the form alWays open would work, but it's another inconvenience.

I don't remember - can SMART detect clicks on the debug canvas? If so, we could enable debug, paint a button ON the screen, and when the users clicks that part of the cavas, it opens a readln

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I've never heard of it if it does.

Mabe creating a small text box that is optional to allways appear after loading the script is the answer, you can minimize it if you dont need it or you can move it below SMART if you do. Also coding something like this into SMART itself, as well as extra features, would be amazing :D

Oh actually it could be minimized by default (i.e. minimized as soon as the script starts).

There's always been a feature in SMART that lets you type while SMART is enabled, but its always been buggy as hell and never really worked right on windows for some reason.

I've been working on it a bit, though. Basically, click the screen while smart is enabled, and type like normal, the keys SHOULD be forwarded through the event block and show up. IF NOT and something else happens, let me know (IRC is a preferred way to contact me). I am kind of sort of working on this right now, so yea.

You should be able to disable SMART and type, as well, but that isn't preferred by users because it throws off scripts easily. Typing while enabled is the obvious goal. I'm going to be uploading a 6.5b soon, which might or might not contain fixes, so keep your eyes open.

Also, as for forms and SMART, form events happen in a different thread and trying to call a SMART method from another thread will will seriously mess things up (that's why the other project failed). But I could perhaps have SMART open a "type here" window when you click the screen, if people would be okay with that?

I think that would be awesome actually. :)

Wow. I never knew that was a feature. >.<

It lags a bit at first (just a delay before the Chars show up) but after the initial letters come up, it works pretty good. :)

PS, using Win7 Ultimate (Tiny7).

Definitely gonna test this one out. Also the buggy typing with smart disabled( sometime you can type sometimes you can't) I haven't had any issues typing lately thanks for fixing that.

Some people (e.g. Hobbit :3 ) have VERY weird problems with SMART for some reason. I can't ever recreate any of the issues though. Glad to hear it works for someone else, too.

It works really well for me actually. :)

Soo about this thread, this feature is already built into SMART. Just click on the RS screen and start typing. :)

Doesn't work for me sometimes, and apparently not for some people at all?

Wouldn't hurt to have our own for the unfortunate few? Doesn't need to be a priority as it works for some, but I don't think it's a bad idea.

Actually yeah, it's not working me right now. Guess it goes on and off. =\
